@@polyMATHY_Luke Something else to consider; several of the characters have a sort of "personality" to them, which may alter the context of their pronounciation. For example, the Lawbringer (heavily armored guy with poleaxe) is more or less a one man army/executioner, soullessly devoted to bringing order. His shouts may just be him proclaiming his mottos and oaths as he lays waste. The Centurion (guy with Gladius and nothing else) is an extremely egotistical fighter, loudly proclaiming how *INCREDIBLE* he is (and let's be real if you can knock a guy in full plate armor 6 feet away on his ass with one punch, you reserve the right to such an ego), so his singular proclamations make a bit more sense. The Gladiator (trident wielders) of course, is a gladiator. Lorewise they were such unchallenged gladiators that they left the coliseum to pursue opponents on a battlefield that might challenge them. Yeah, fighting unarmored on a real battlefield just for entertainment. Anyway, it's very possible that their shouts are chants or mottos that they would have proclaimed in the coliseum, like a catchphrase. The Black Priors (large shield and sword) however, are interesting, as they are essentially monks from an order that worshipped gods of War and Death. I don't think it impossible that they're shouting bits of prayers or recitals from their worship as they take to the battlefield. Also, Gryphon (an old guy, not shown in the video) is trilingual, speaking Latin, Icelandic, AND Japanese on the battlefield (even changing in real time based on who he's currently fighting!) So if his Latin is a bit muddled, it's very possible he's gotten a little rusty while learning 2 additional languages. Sorry for such a long explanation, but given how contextual Latin is, I think it's important to take that into consideration for their pronounciation. I hope this helps, even if just a little!

Why is nobody talking about how Black Priors Voice line is closer to "My Heart is Silent"? That's just as cool imo

I feel like I willed this video into being with my thoughts lol, I saw all the other “judging depictions of Latin in media” videos and always wished there was one about For Honor. Imagine my delight when I saw this on my KZbin today Great video as well! It seems that For Honor did their Latin better than I would’ve thought, especially after seeing Ubisoft’s Latin in Assassin’s Creed

This was a great watch! I’m half Italian living in the UK and the way you pronounce things definitely echoes modern Italian pronunciation. I often also wondered about the lack of accusative agreement on ‘ad profundis’ which at least tells me that me taking Latin to beat the end of Secondary/High school paid off :)

9:58 when you said “by means of the deep things!” Black Prior(the character who said Ad Profundis) in his trailer said he wants to show everyone true darkness(just a lil context if it clears it up at all?)

It would be great if you would be kind to make a video about South Slavic pronounciation of Latin (not taking in account that, in time when I was in my Gymnasium, we were required to read both ways, classic and tradotional).

fun fact: since lawbringer and gryphon are the same person in the lore, they had to get the same voice actor, which oviously doesn't speak either latin, japanese, chinese and whatever viking speaks. That poor guy only knew english because of the story mode

Luke you should do a video where you go to a college campus and try speaking Latin/Greek with Classics professors to see how much they can understand/speak. It would be pretty interesting!

Until I watched "Amadeus", my favourite part of Mozart's Requiem was *Lacrimosa* , but that scene (9:14) caused that I prefer *Confutatis* [maledictis, flammis acribus addictis].

It's so interesting to see that every European language had/has its own pronunciation of Latin. Imagine a world where the common language in Europe would be Latin today but every country would have its own "accent". We would still have some language differences but we would understand each other.

I love latin since quite a time. And since a short while I also started to appreciate ancient greek. But I never saw a possibility to learn it as close as possible to the original until I found your channels.

Salve Luci! Latinum disco et te rogare volo si me monstrate possis ubi verba dicimus.. "plebeia", si intelleges, discere possum. Gratias tibi ago! Et clarigita: INCREDIBILIS! Iterum gratias tibi ago! I hope those sentences were correct! Please correct me if you find a mistake. Thanks and have a nice day!
