I saw part of this video when you first posted it and today I did a search for marbled polymer clay and I was shocked. There’s a million new creators doing this exact technique with very slight differences! I always love watching you create but I am overwhelmed by all the *inspired* recreators. Thank you again for the wide variety of polymer clay methods!

These are beautiful! How long did you wait for the white acrylic paint to dry on the clay before using the liquid sculpey?
@FernMitchHandmade
@FernMitchHandmade 4 жыл бұрын
I let it dry for about 20-30mins. I think certain paints dry faster and certain paints dry slower. If you are in a hurry, leave it in the freezer for 10mins 😊

Amazing videos . I’m just wondering how you can make sure dust doesn’t stick to clay? No matter how much I clean my table , the dust gets on the clay all the time :/
@FernMitchHandmade
@FernMitchHandmade 4 жыл бұрын
Oh goodness. I hate it!! Unfortunately the dust and lint is inevitable. 😰Specially with fur babies. I usually use cotton buds and rubbing alcohol to clean up before I bake the clay. You can also use its after you bake. But will need a little bit of elbow grease. You can also use nail polish remover.

So I think it hugely depends on the paint as well? I've done two separate piles and covered them in paint (acrylic but of two different brands). One of them is OK to work with, the other very sticky. I've put both of them in the freezer too. Twice. First time only for couple of mins which didn't help. Second time was meant to be longer but I completely forgot about them so it was a good couple of hours. And here I am, day 3. Still sticky! Any ideas what can I do?
@FernMitchHandmade
@FernMitchHandmade 3 жыл бұрын
I would imagine so. Thicker more richer brands tend to take more time. I’d try to use the littlest amount of paint possible. Barely enough to cover the clay bits. You can always go and add more later! Though, I have seen some makers squish and make a log shape when it’s still wet! Depending on your paint, you maybe in luck if you do this. Paint could act as a binding to the clay but it can get messy. Might need lots of sanding. I’m so sorry I couldn’t help you any further. I hope it works out for you. Fingers crossed 🤞

Hi, Thank you so much for your videos. I have few questions: 1)I see both of the clay shopping links in description, the product is unavailable. Do you recommend Sculpey 111 variety for polymer clay jewelry? 2)when to use acrylic paint ? Before or after baking? 3) can I make hole before baking?( I dont have drilling machine)
@FernMitchHandmade
@FernMitchHandmade 4 жыл бұрын
Thejasri V your are very welcome. 🥰 to answer your questions, 1. Due to the pandemic there is a clay shortage but they announced that they are running in full capacity now. I don’t recommend sculpey iii because it’s very brittle. If you cannot find Premo or soufflé you can look in to Fimo 2. Before baking 3. Absolutely! I like to do it after since it’s much neater. A small manual hand drill would do just fine.

@FernMitchHandmade
@FernMitchHandmade 3 жыл бұрын
Oh no. I’m sorry to hear this ☹️ make sure your paint completely dry before forming the pieces to a log shape. Also make sure your coat the pieces well with liquid clay. When forming the log push the bits very well. So they condition and stick to each other. Before you cut the log, freeze it for about 10-15mins. If you still have trouble. Arrange the cut squares on a sheet of clay and then smooth it. I hope these steps will help you out!

Hey! Is it extremely important to seal marble pieces? If it is, can we use nail polish gloss as an alternative? Thanks so much!
@FernMitchHandmade

It’s important if you do not want the paint to fade and keep the same effect a long time. Mail polish isn’t recommended, however if it’s gel polish cured with a UV lap it might work. Good luck!

@FernMitchHandmade

This is why surface sanding is necessary for this technique. All the imperfections can be fixed by wet sanding. Try leaving your roll in the freezer for about 10-20mins and then cut it. I hope this helps 😊

Hi! I discovered you someone in the explore page and fell in love with you videos! You’re so talented! I do have a question on what kind of non-stick sheet or cookie sheet you’re using? What brand? Also, do you use a regular manual nail drill to puncture a hole through the piece after the oven process or is it a fancy drill that you get somewhere expensive?
@FernMitchHandmade
@FernMitchHandmade 3 жыл бұрын
Aw welcome 🥰 it’s so good to have you here. The work space on working on is a ceramic tile that I got from my local hardware shop for couple of bucks. Lowe’s and Home Depot carry tons of them. I bake right on it too but I lay a piece of printer paper on the tile and put my pieces on top them. I am looking to get a manual small hand drill from amazon since it drills holes much smaller than my current nail drill. It’s very inexpensive. For my taste now it creates holes that are little bigger. But a hand drill after bake will do the trick 😊 I hope I answered all your questions. Thank you for watching

How long do you let the paint dry and the liquid clay dry before molding and freezing and cutting? My pint feels completely dry and when I add the liquid clay it just smears everywhere. even after freezing it, it smears and ruins the slab..
@FernMitchHandmade
@FernMitchHandmade 3 жыл бұрын
The trick is to use the tiniest bit of paint that is just enough to cover the pieces. Also, add your liquid clay after the paint is dried. If all else fails I’d try a different brand of paint that is a little thicker. If it smears all of the slab work through it and cut the pieces. After they are baked give a good sand on the surface using 600grit gradually going up to at least 2000grit. This will remove all the excess paint and only show the paint that settles in between cracks. Good luck 🥰 I hope this helps.
