The combination of polymer clay, foils and stencils together can create some exciting results. There are so many ways you can incorporate stencils with your foils and hopefully this will start you on a journey of discovery for yourself.

Hi Debbie, loved the tutorial and was tickled when you refused the left behind foil. You didn't break a sweat when it missed a few bits. I don't know what it is but often when I try to make something out of left overs, I like it better than the original piece. Thank...

Beautiful, I want to learn to do this in small earrings as soon as I get supplies. Could you do a video on beginners supply list for getting started with clay. This stay in is a good time to get started. Thanks for all you do Be bless and be safe. Much love.

Oh this is a great time to get started with polymer clay - although unfortunate circumstances. You know there are lots of placed online that can give you the basics for beginners with earrings. You really don't need much at all and of course, it depends on your budget. Try Ginger at The Blue Bottle Tree (online) she has a great website with lots of info and I'm pretty sure she's got info for beginners or those wanting to get started. Good luck on your journey and please stay safe yourself. x

Hi Lady Joy, I've used Lisa Pavelka foils for this process. There are lots and lots of different brands on the market these days - remember this product has colour attached to mylar paper which much be ripped from the surface of the clay (very different to leafing). I've done lots of foils videos and have incorporated nail foils in one of them (I'm pretty sure I have anyway - was two years ago now). Your'e right in saying some of the foils don't work. In my experience it's always best to do some test pieces and cure them regardless of what brand you're using. Some of the nail foils fade during during (if you're working on raw clay) so it's always good to know what your product will and won't do. Hope that helps. ♥

Hi Eileen, I wonder if the other tutorial you saw was using nail foils. These can be very hit and miss and I would highly recommend creating samples to see how they hold up during burnishing or curing. Many of them fade, especially the glitter or the holographic. Hmmm maybe that should be another tutorial!! The foils I'm using here are Lisa Pavelka foils and I've never had an issue with them fading at all. Thanks heaps as well, so glad you liked the tutorial. x

Hi Henrietta, I've used Lisa Pavelka foils in this tutorial. I've also used pan pastels, chalk pastels and the stencils are cake decorating stencils. You can pretty much search online for a store which sells these items near you or an online store. Hope this helps.

Hey Robin, you know you can find heaps of stuff online at many of the various craft sites. Depends on where you are. 2wards polymer clay here in Australia have a good range of the Lisa Pavelka foils, not sure about stencils. if you just google you'll find heaps my love and then you can choose something that "speaks" to you if you know what I mean. Have fun x

foil goes on before baking. If you put the foils on AFTER baking you'd need to use nail or foil adhesive. Best to do it before!

I'm so sorry I completely missed your message! Thanks to Pepe the Patriot for replying in my absence. I normally apply prior to curing the clay but there are certain processes where you can apply after curing (ie on hot liquid clay). Nail foils work beautifully (although they can be hit and miss depending on what sort of nail foil you're using). Best to do some samples first. Again so sorry for the delay.

Dear Debbie, wow! Your work is so beautiful. I love the texture of the pieces you make - when you were saying that you could put them through the pasta machine to flatten them, I was yelling: "No Debbie, no, don't do it, they're perfect as they are!!!" Lol. I'm a newbie to polymer clay, but I love it and all its possibilities. I usually make mosaics and, these days, mosaic projects are often made with polymer clay tiles, and they look fantastic. Anyone who's interested in finding out more about polymer clay mosaic tiles, just visit: www.themosaicstore.com.au
