Great tutorial! I learned so much. And what a wonderful way to do a jelly roll! Thank you so much for sharing. I have already gotten a burnisher and can't wait to use it. I tend to have "heavy hands" and I think it will help me smooth out the little dips I get.
@janmontarsi.-blendangles79604 ай бұрын
@@carolinehatch7209 multiple furnishings at different points in the whole process actually accumulate to have a really nice surface. Releasing your paper and putting it back down or getting a new paper also helps once the clay is smooth and it’s stuck to the paper there’s tension and it really won’t do much more unless you release the paper and put it back down,burnishing a lot through the whole process

These are just so pretty! That pink cane.. can u please do a video on how you make it? Out of all the earrings made with that cane are my favorite! Thanks for sharing such beautiful inspiration.
@janmontarsi.-blendangles79604 ай бұрын
@@MisKandi that cane is from an in person workshop that I teach. Usually as a 2 to 3 day class, but I will tell you this I use one color of blue like ultramarine, and maybe a tiny bit of turquoise and fuchsia clay, and made different blends with white. To make all the components to push into the cane shape. kaleidoscope canning is much more involved. but I would recommend watching Fiona Abel Smith videos as far as the kaleidoscope process she makes it look so easy and simple and it can be. It’s just how involved you make each component that you’re going to add to your cane I believe in all my blends I had at least a tiny bit of fuchsia, even if they were blue blends

I wonder if you might teach us how to make those beautiful canes...they seem very Art Nouveau to me...the colors and design. I really like them. thanks so much for sharing so generously with us all of your tricks and process and suggestions.

Great idea! are there any in particular in the video that you want to learn because they’re all basically the same if you look at the part of the video where I have the different striped sheets of clay you can pretty much tell from the colors of clay. I use how I lined up the clay and for such a small item as earrings you just want to use thin strips of clay of each color and then blend them a little bit, for most people the colors will overlap and blend nicely just because of how handmade works. Just remember, don’t put two colors next to each other that will make a muddy color , like orange, which is red and yellow next to purple, which has blue in it when mix will make a brown muddy color , Stay in the order of the color wheel. Or put white or pearl between colors that you don’t want to overlap.

@@janmontarsi.-blendangles7960 I was refering to the kaleidoscope canes which come into view at around 1:25:38 the part that begins with Cane Slice EArrings- I really love those canes that you are slicing from. I think they are kaleidoscope canes. I wondered if you might teach us how to make those canes: the one with blues and greens and whites. Just love that cane...I was just wondering about that. I love the striped cane system...and yes, definitely important to put the right colors side by side. Thanky you again so very much for your generous shares and teaching. Loving it.

@@user-pe8cu1vs6d that is a class that I teach right now in person only at Polymer Clay retreats and workshops. It really is a 2 to 3 day workshop , if you’ve never made Kaleidoscope canes I recommend a good place to start is with Fiona Abel Smith videos while I work differently than she does to create my canes basic process steps are a great place to start aside from her designs that are also different than mine but quite beautiful

May I ask, why is it important to burnish your pieces to super smooth, like the dots? Is it for baking or looks? I'm still new to PC working.
@janmontarsi.-blendangles79604 ай бұрын
well, you want to incorporate the thoughts smooth into the clay so that it’s all one sheet you could leave them raised furnishing also per the surface. If you look at most of my earrings that aren’t textured they are perfectly smooth the more times you burnish at different stages in the process, the perfect your surface will be nothing messes up the surface more than moving your clay around while it’s raw. The minute you scrape it up with your blade off your worksurface to put it on a tile you wrinkle the entire surface of the clay. That is why Burnished before I cut my clay earrings and usually after, but always on the tile I’m going to bake at so I don’t have to move the pieces
