This is a fun Mokume Gane technique that incorporates silver leaf, alcohol inks and translucent clay to create a cool effect. Depending on how much you crackle the metal leaf the effect will look different. It also depends on how many colors of alcohol ink you use. It’s a really versatile technique that can be used in many different projects. I show some examples of what you can use it for in the tutorial.

I absolutely LUV the silver leaf technique. Your tutorial is the best. I will be duplicating this soon. The blue and black pendant at the end is fabulous. Did you do a tutorial on that particular piece? I’m guessing the silver rod thru the hoop at the end is for stability.

I don't have a tutorial for those beads just yet. I'm still practicing the hoop technique as it's a little tricky.

Thanks Samantha. Always pretty and clever. I wonder how it is possible that you obtain those curved lines like in a mokume gane without having cut the stack, and made holes etc .. You only cut in half and stack many times .. I thought you couldn't have obtained this mokume gane effect .. Please, could you explain ? ;-)

fabulous.....i loved the idea of that last piece you had shown as a sample, which was the Blue and Black one.....i actually liked the design or the shape of that piece......the shape was unique but with the translucent silver leaf Mokume Gane sheet it looked so cool...... the black side was just a textured piece of clay or sheet right?..... extremely good idea and combination

Love the tutorial! I love the red ones. One question: I am looking for a new acrylic roller. I would like a wide one. Mine is about 8" wide. Yours seems to be much wider. Do you remember where you got yours? I appreciate your help always!

It really depends what you want. You can have a high contrast in colors or they can be very similar. Either way they look great. It's really up to you as to what you want. :D

Love your tutorials. Just one question, if you don't have silver leaf paper, can you use fine silver glitter instead? will it achieve the same effect in the end. Thanks again for all the lovely tutorials
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 6 жыл бұрын
No glitter won't give the same effect. Only silver leaf or silver foil like the one Lisa Pavelka sells.

Your tutorials are wonderful. One question: What is your secret to keeping the clay at the same width throughout its length? Mine always get wider when rolling it thinner. Thank you in advance,Shelly

I can’t work with Alcohol inks, so do you think I can use acrylic paint instead?
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 4 жыл бұрын
I'm afraid you can't use acrylic paint. You'll need to look at brands of clay with tinted translucent colors such as Cernit or Pardo.

I noticed you use translucent clay a lot more than normal colored clay. You use alcohol ink on the translucent clay to color the clay. is there a reason why you choose to do that in making your designs?
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 6 жыл бұрын
Yes. I like to color the translucent clay with alcohol inks as the alcohol inks are translucent. So I find it's better to do that rather than color with normal clay as that would decrease the translucence. I also like that the colors it makes more than the normal colors. This is just a personal preference.

Why do you use alcohol dye in this one instead of a solid color clay?
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 5 жыл бұрын
I like to use the alcohol ink instead of solid clay in this technique because I can see more of the silver leaf through the translucent layers dyed with alcohol ink.

Make sure doors and windows are closed and tiny tornados aka toddlers are down for the night before attempting to use silver leaf! Lol 😝 also this technique would make great faux wood grain, minus the silver that is
