Nice tutorial, I would like to know is there a way to tell on the package how old the clay is. I order my clay through a distributor which I get for a price and it's fresh, but sometimes I might have to run to the store to pick up a block.

Cindy at polymer clay tutor did say something about being able to tell how old the block of clay was here. www.beadsandbeading.com/blog/buying-polymer-clay-tips-tricks/17040/

I have found that the promo effects are a bit more softer than reg colors premo. the reg premo is not as soft and the only clay I use, even for canes. i find here Kato is a lot harder than premo. here in America, premo is the best clay. I think it's actually great for canes.

Yes, I agree with that. I use Premo for canes, and it works very well. I don't even know where to get Kato other than online here in my area in California.

Do you recommend storing this clay in the fridge in Summer? I am in WA and it can get to the high 30s
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 7 жыл бұрын
Yes. I would do that in summer if it's getting that hot. It won't do the clay any harm and will make it better to work with in summer.

Hello, how long should I bake Premo Sculpey and Sculpey III. Can I mix these two kjnds of clay to make one thing? Thank you b.eforehand
@JessamaTutorials

I tend to bake for an hour to 1 1\2 hours regardless of the brand. Yes. you can mix those two brands.

@@JessamaTutorials thank you for your reply. It says 15 baking time for sculpey and I did but it crushed after two days. So I will try to bake it for 1 1/2 hours as you told and see the difference. I am new to polymer clay. Should polymer clay broke or crush if it is dropped on the floor or hit on smth?
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 3 жыл бұрын
No, but Sculpey 3 is a pretty weak clay. If you can I'd avoid using it. Premo on the other hand is very strong when baked correctly. 15 minutes isn't enough to make it strong. An hour will do it though.

Are you using resin for top coat?

Yes I do. I use Ice Resin.

I live in canada. And I have been using premo in the past month (where it's starting to get cold) and it's still way to soft for complex canes. Every one I use gets kinda warped. Soufflé is even worse. I've tried everything including throwing them in the freezer. Leeching and they both are so sticky and squishy they don't make nice canes. Even simple ones. Polymer clay is always super expensive. There only sold in craft stores here. It's generally 3-4$ a packet even the off brand and artist loft stuff is like that. So cost is somewhat irrelevant here for that

You could try buying online. The prices are much cheaper that way.

Jessama Tutorials any sites you recommend? Or just amazon?
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 7 жыл бұрын
Yes. I do have a few recommendations. Here's a page an my recommended suppliers www.jessamatutorials.com/polymer-clay-supplier.html I wouldn't recommend eBay, Amazon or Etsy for buying polymer clay. It has a high chance of arriving old.

Jessama Tutorials sadly I tested cost of some of these sites and shipping alone was between 25-40$ :/ Thank you though.

There's also Shades of Clay. I haven't used them, but they're based in Canada, so it could be worth checking them out. The shipping might be cheaper. shadesofclay.com

I live in Tennessee and premo here costs almost $3 for a 2 ounce block, which is expensive. I think it's like $2.89. But every now and then the 2 hobby and craft stores in my area will run a 30% off sale which helps. Also, in these 2 stores, Kato 2 ounce blocks are hard as bricks. When you pick one up off the shelf, you barely can make a dent in one when you squeeze it. Is this normal or is this just happening in the stores in my area?

Kato should not be that hard. It sounds like it either old or partially baked. I buy Kato for firemountaingems.com and their Kato is quite soft. I show what fresh Kato should do in this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gp-WZpmwn76JobM

Missi, I, too, live in Tennessee in a small town 100 miles from nowhere! In fact, the nearest craft store is a good 45 minute drive so I buy all my clay & tools online. The best $$ I've found is at sculpeyproducts.com. I've never used Fimo or Kato but am pleased with Sculpey PREMO! and their Souffle'. Hope this helps.

I find if it's that soft out of the package you probably need to leech it.
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. I do leach Premo before using it in summer, but I find that it weakens the clay as it needs a lot of leaching. So I prefer to work with Kato in the summer as it doesn't need leaching and so remains strong. Also my summers get really hot to the point were I sometimes have to store the clay in the fridge to prevent it partially baking. It's just my opinion and personal experience with the clay.
