This is the song that sold me on Polyphia. This song lived in my head as a REALLY REALLY persistent earworm for months. It was one of those rare compositions that no matter how much I heard it, there was something new I heard every time. I kind of think that this composition is borderline genius. One of those songs that if MOZART heard it back in his time, would have frightened him. 😱😱😱 SURPRISINGLY ... In my circle of musicians, Polyphia is very polarizing. 50% love them vehemently and 50% just can't wrap their heads around their music. My little brother finally admitted that the reason he hated them was because ... even after playing guitar for 35 years, at a high level, professionally ... he realized that there was no amount of practicing that would bridge the skill gap. The fluidity and technique of everyone involved in this band is ... next ... NEXT LEVEL. It was cute to see my metalhead brother normally full of BRAVADO and STRUT openly admit that he was full on jealous of their age and skill. He has come around and is now a superfan, but it was a long time watching him fight that internal war. 🤣🤣🤣

@@ItsMeBarnaby … I had that conversation with my brother. At some point there becomes the plateau … the place where you are improving on your more difficult techniques and it is palpable improvement, but there becomes a limit of sounds that you are willing to make. Sounds that you have made by accident that are now embedded in your brain as mistakes. Chords that are so foreign to your scope of understanding that it is nails down a Chaulk board to most listeners. There are an extremely small small subset of artists who are what we started calling the ‘BOB ROSS’ players … the guys who thrived on those ‘HAPPY LITTLE ACCIDENTS’ and could make them compelling. Then there is the subset of this subset like Vai, Beck, Henson that drive hugely successful careers out of taking the most unlikely of strange mindsets and unheard of techniques and pushing boundaries that didn’t even exist. I would challenge your statement that if ‘…someone else being able to do it just proves it can be done.’ The type of person who develop and bring an entire genre of innovation to the mainstream borders on the label of Iconic. Steve Vai said to Polyphia in a Zoom call that they published. “The best thing about Polyphia is not the music you guys are making today … its the music you are going to influence 10 years from now.” The look on their faces was priceless . I had an AH-HA moment about the boys right then. That Steve Vai MOTHERFUCKER is a VERY WISE MAN !!!

@@ItsMeBarnaby talent is not a myth. anyone can learn to play good. but talent is something to count in. this my upset some. but some have an absolute pitch - this is a pure talent, you just can't make up with training, if the talented one is training as much. he always stays ahead, by his talent margin. and i just pointed this out as obvious thing to get rid of the absurd "talent is a myth" thing. it actually IS a thing.

Tim made a video explaining what his process was to write G.O.A.T. and he shows what he did on his DAW to some extent as well.. it's a good watch 👍

I found Polyphia when they released Playing God earlier this year. Tyler from "Music is Win" did a reaction on the day it was released and that sent me down a rabbit hole. "Remember that you will die" is the first CD I've bought in maybe 20 years. It sits in my cars CD player, my wife and kids both love it and I forgot how much better CD sounds compared to Spotify.

Looks like we might have similar taste, given that the first one of their songs you really got into was I believe this. Which is probably my favorite. I would recommend their earlier album "Renaissance". It's not as technical and self-indulgent as their newer work. Wouldn't be able to pick a song. While GOAT is my favorite song, that album as a whole is the only one by them that I'll listen to on repeat for hours. 😅

One of my favorite pieces of music! You have no idea where this is going at any time. It sits you on the edge of your seat not knowing what's coming next.
