Styrofoam is actually a Dow Chemical Trademark and applies to their line of expanded polystyrene (EPS) used in the building trades.

All (our company) the Polystyrene that we recycle are make into picture frames. So, the next time you go to a store to buy picture frame that looks like wood, this is recycled polystyrene (most people call it styrofoam which is a trade mark for 3M). At $700 per ton, that is NOT a waste stream. But, money in your hand wasted if you don't recycle.

In what form do you have the EPS scrap? Is loose, baled, or compacted? How much of the EPS scrap do you have? Pounds? Tons?

In the next step the product is screened and filtered, then re-melted and pelletized. From the pellets new products are manufactured. IE picture frames, crown molding, etc

No, after this is done you have to process the PS to an melting unit and an filter before usage.

I exapand and mold styrofoam for a living. How is it reused? Simple. It's remolded together by steam. That's the original way of making styrofoam from the start. When you grind it up, you just break it down to small pieces and refuse it together. Fusion from steam.

No, as it comes out of the machine, the EPS is very hot, and only handle with standard gloves. But, with-in minutes the recycled EPS could be handled with-out any gloves.

no not true, its just cost prohibitive. But, if you add value by recycling with this type of machine, value is added and possible to recycle. most EPS/ingots are made into crown moldings. Yes EPS is recyclable!
