It's California. You try that in my town, the dog is gone. Your dog can't even bark for more than 10 minutes 3x a day here. If you allow your dog to constantly bark outside, it's a warning and then, $100, $200, after that, it's either the owner is criminally liable for disturbing the peace, or the dog is taken away. I grew up in the city as a kid and owners would let their dog loose all the time. The find it funny their dogs would chase kids. 80s and 90s was some terrible time to walk the streets. I've been chased by so many pit pulls, bit twice, even smashed my head diving over a fence. It still angers me till this day that dogs were terrorizing the streets because of bad owners.

I live next city over to Pomona. This actually happened to me when I was outside walking my Frenchie. A big dog ran up full speed behind us and I turned around picked up my dog with 1 hand and when the dog jumped up trying to grab my dog I grabbed the dog by the neck and slammed it and held it to the ground until the owner came and I gave him a ear full too. I don’t understand how people let there dogs roam around with no leash on or at least have a shock collar on them to break the bad habits.

This exact thing happened to me. It wasn’t a pit bull but the dock wanted to attack my rat terrier which I had on a leash. I yelled for the owner to come get their dog. They stood there in their driveway watching. Finally they came after my dog’s head was in its mouth. My dog was ok but I was afraid to walk her. We’d go out and it would run into my yard. Finally my husband went over and said if they didn’t control their dog it would be a dead dog. Local PD said if it comes into your yard you can kill it.

Omg this reminds me of a recent case where a husband and wife were sentenced to 15years for their 2 pit bull dogs killing a man and a woman who were just out walking. An expert trainer said these dogs tend to be territorial which can lead to attacks. This is so scary. I hope that dog is taken and that owner is held accountable. Animal control is the most inefficient do-nothing department. I’ve called multiple times for different reasons. As a delivery driver I see a lot of situations they should be responding to. Never ONCE have they done anything to take care of a situation. Always I get an email saying they checked on the situation and didn’t see a problem. So animals in too small cages, no shelter or water, badly neglected in need of medical care, loose and roaming the street. They do NOTHING.

I absolutely hate, HATE loose dogs. If you want to unleash your dog, take them to an appropriate outlet for that, like the dog park. We have 3 dogs, a lab mix who loves everyone but would absolutely target a smaller animal (rabbit, squirrel, maybe a cat), a cattle dog who is weary of strangers (typical of the breed), and a 14yr. old pit bull who has NEVER in his life done anything like this. Be a responsible human and dog owner, you have zero opportunity to train your dog or correct unwanted behaviors if you do not have them on a leash and your dog has no idea where territory/space ends outside of your yard if it's not on a leash. You are literally risking your dog's life and so many other human and animal lives around you if you're a person who just lets them run. It's infuriating to me. We don't do dogs off-leash unless we're at the dog park, not in the yard, not in the neighborhood, not on hikes or trips. But ultimately, it starts with training inside your home, "place", "stay", teaching your dog(s) to stay in the home even if the door is open until you give a command, even the "look at me" or "focus" command and SOCIALIZE YOUR DAMN DOG (any dog, all dogs, not just pit bulls). Constantly, from a very young age, they need to see adults, kids, dogs, other pets of all sizes, noises and distractions, exposure to new things. I feel so bad for these people, and their dogs, and this dog (pit bull) that is obviously not cared about enough. My heart just breaks.

Your ignorance breaks my heart. Some counties have a strict leash law, some do not. A well trained dog with the right disposition can be voice controlled. I have had 3 golden retrievers in my lifetime. None of them were aggressive, but two of them I would keep leashed because they were real gamers. They would take off after a rabbit. The other one was so laid back he did not need to be on a leash. I do agree that most dogs do need to be on a leash. But there are many exceptions. A herding dog can not do its job on a leash.

Two stories: A story like this one in Pomona happened in our town about 10 years ago. The police came and killed the loose Pitbull. The owners were outraged. Story two: About 15 years ago in our community a woman was walking her beagle, and a large dog (actually two dogs) came out of a yard and the largest dog literally bit the head off of the beagle. The owners of the two dogs put both dogs down within 24 hours.

This is a huge problem in Pomona! Many terrible dog owners, aggressive stray dogs, and businesses that have guard dogs without proper gates, which is illegal! I have called Pomona PD and animal control countless times! They do not care! Animal control is rude and even accused me of lying about these incidents!

I just saw a trial where this was happening with 2 dangerous dogs doing the exact same thing in their neighborhood, until one of them killed an 80 yr old man and viciously hurt his wife. The dog owners are in prison now, don't know what happened to the dogs.

They're really frustrated because they are living in a cage. As soon as that dog breaks free, it's dangerous. There are other breeds of dogs that would behave the same.

One night I was out walking my yorkie when we were attacked by a pit bull. It was the most harrowing experience of my life and way worse than this video. I fought that dog for 15-20 minutes until I was about to pass out. He got my dog once but I did everything to this dog I could without weapons. At one point I had one of hie eyeballs in my fingers and snatched his ear and it didn't phase this dog. He was like the Terminator! Finally, a miracle happened. I yelled, "Jesus, save me." In that instant, the owner came out and grabbed the dog as I collapsed in the street. Even still, he was in terminator mode.

I had a neighbor that used to let their pit bulls all the time!!!! One morning a father was walking his small daughter to school and out came the pit bull he quickly threw his daughter over my front fence so ss not to get bitten i called the police several times over that dog and the Baldwin park animal control they said they couldn't do anything so i called the county supervisor and got her involved they came thr following day the supervisor and the dog pound and removed the dog but less than 2days they had another one!!!!!!!

Lead treats seem to be the most preferred treat for pits. Give one a lead treat and he will instantly go to sleep for you. Amazing how effective they are and they typically run around $20 for a box of 50.
