Pond5 may be non-exclusive, but if I register tracks with Pond5 Publishing is it then like an admin deal? If so, other libraries won't touch those tracks.

Honestly, I still don't get the point of this publishing job. I contribute music for only 8 months and been happy with the 50/50 split. I am not with any PRO or anything, I just make music and post in Pond5, simple as that. I still don't fully understand this email. Now, if I slightly understand it correctly, Pond5 is going to force me to join a PRO (e.g BMI) in order to benefit from this publishing. My natural biological hunch always says "joining with more than one body is going to rip you off". When I checked BMI, I am asked to upload a foreigner tax form W-8BEN. So, I feel like I am going to pay money more than I get due to joining to more than one body. First, my split got reduced to 35%, second Pond5 admin fee (have no clue what it is), third BMI taxes which is 30%. Lots of percentages, aren't they beautiful?! While I still don't understand how the calculations go with all of this, is it the time to hire an online accountant and attorney or what exactly?

pond5 publishing is just a scam waste of time i have with PRO pond5 royalties are rare as name says its RF so 35% means they need more money that's it ! nothing more than that man

This is from the email from pond5. You will keep all of your writer and publisher performance royalties, less a standard admin fee from the publisher share to cover our expenses.... I wonder what pond5 thinks is a standard admin fee. im not talking about the 65/35 spit this is another part of the email that i dont see anyone talking about.

You don't need to be a publisher to get started. Just write some good music and upload it. You can register as a write with a PRO though. Let me know if I can be of any help.

I just signed up for pond5. And have a number of tracks up there now. Just wondering if you will be placing your tracks with pond5 publishing. It doesn't seem like there's much choice, as long as it's non-exclusive. Not sure what to do

Another new question generated from my confusion, why would I stay with Pond5 if I am BMI member? ... I just learned that BMI do the same job as Pond5 which is collecting royalties in your behalf. But I am not sure if I can upload to BMI directly or use a publisher for that matter?

The amount of music from P5 that end up in broadcasts to earn royalty is minuscule. Definitely not worth losing 30% compensation.

One of the top composers on Pond5 mentioned the other day that he's never seen above $100/year in royalties from Pond5 purchases. So Pond5 publishing would have to increase PRO income by, what, 2,000 to 4,000% to make up for the reduced split for someone who's doing really well there? I don't see it happening. I'm also fairly convinced that they're going to go down the road of a $15/month unlimited subscription model within the next two years to stay competitive, which will decimate our incomes even further. I don't see building a business in RF stock music as being sustainable any more. It was barely sustainable with the 50/50 split.
