But it's aligned with kerala culture and politics. They would not get half of the jokes, it is even difficult for a Tamilian or non-Malayali Indian to get that movie vibe completely.

Good choice. It is a movie that invokes nostalgic memories in most Keralites . There is no other movie that captures quaint village life and rustic characters with their little idiosyncracies way this movie does. It is Kerala of the 80s simple innocent times lost forever. Raghunath Paleri in one of his memoir pieces has written about an incident in his childhood which gave him the idea of the theme of this movie. A large part of its appeal is also due to the breathtaking natural beauty of the location.

Nice movie this was.. It is a brilliant one for us.. Its ridiculing the society back then and making fun of the stereotypes.. He loved her sincerely.. she did too maybe.. till her father changed her mind or brought the selfish side out.. and he felt betrayed.. (not for gold).. He couldn’t shout out that the gold was not real.. time passed truth came out and he got his redemption seeing her struggle and he made peace with it.. its a village story.. low budget.. Good actors.. Classic Malayalam cinema. Its one of my favourite..

Malayalam movie is all about experiencing the life of the characters - people that we see in the villages of Kerala. Even now, we see these situations enacted and this movie is kind of satire.
