Movie showcases one of the greatest dynasties from ancient world history, the Cholas.. this was the dynasty which ruled for over 1500 years of time expanding the Indian culture to almost whole of south east Asia..don’t know about the novel but the Chola dynasty is not myth, it is the glorious history of India..

The novel is excellent. I hope the movie lives up to it (well, there isn't anyone to direct this movie except Mani Ratnam. However, there are others to probably do better background for this movie than ARR - not complaining either).

I read Ponniyin Selvan 4 Times in 12 years. It is true that Ponniyin Selvan is considered one of greatest Novel ever written in Tamil literature. It is based real history about chola dynasty in 10th century AD.
