Another gem, Ponte! Thank you for sharing all of your hard-won knowledge of Blender! I've been in a completely different field for 20 years as a biological sciences professor, and I'm looking for a new challenge. The tools for digital concept art are astoundingly powerful and complex, but your videos seem quite approachable to me. You take the time to explain the design process and point out potential pitfalls along the way. As a lifelong educator, I know a talented teacher when I see one. You're great! Keep doing what you do!

A tip for weighted normals, if you don't check the "face influence" setting, it won't take into account the affected face weights from the bevel modifier. You can try it on a model and notice the difference immediately

Thanks for this tutorial! Your decals look amazing and I'm really thinking about getting Decal Machine. I don't know if this has been asked before, but I'm wondering if it's possible to create animated decals. I mean, this vent decal already looks very nice and surely reduces the vert/tris count on assets, but it would look nicer and more realistic if the blades would rotate. This maybe could be possible by using two decals, one for the framework with an alpha mask and one for the blades with the animation.

@jeffspinner65794 жыл бұрын
Very nice. I came for the decal making, but stayed because of all the different small ways you use Hops/BC/Meshmachine as they were intended. There was a guy I told I was excited for his follow on tuts about trim sheets, so he stopped. Counterintuitive outcome, but not unexpected given the human condition. Ty for continuing to share knowledge. I'm curious given your kinda beastie machine how long a decal with a few million took to bake? 5mins? 10mins? I'd like a measure so I know if my computer seems to hang, it may not be, it's just calculating. I was wondering about your teenie weenie bevels. When I do them for my assets I want to port to UE4, so I bake the bevels from the high poly, they don't show up well in the game engine. I see they work for making decals, so I continue to learn. I make my bevels about 2x as thick as yours and they start to read with "standard" assets. Am I missing something, or your intention not porting to a game engine is the difference between our approach and "different needs?"
@PonteRyuurui4 жыл бұрын
It depends on so many factors, emissives take longer, also geo count is important, subset decals will take longer too.
