We're fast at work with the Vehicles for Veterans GTO. There's plenty of mechanical to accomplish, but Kevin Tetz and the Griots Team were in town - so we switched gears to the paint. You won't believe how well this comes back around!

I would WAY rather have a car like this with all its imperfections than a polished show-piece that you're afraid to drive. Awesome car.

How about a polished show piece you're not afraid to drive? Idk why people pay for and have nice things that they save for someone else to enjoy. These machines were made to be used and enjoyed.

@@brandenbartlett2688 Different strokes, I guess. Some people want to buy one only for the reason to say "hey, look what I've got". Others want to buy one cause they think it looks cool and they like to drive it. Whatever floats your boat, but put me in the column with the people who like to look at it (maybe even work on it) and drive it.

Every, every car starts its life as a polished show-piece that you're afraid to drive. Its through necessity, opportunity, and invention that they evolve into the gems with all its imperfections. Every car, no matter how unloved, earns its way to gem-hood simply by surviving the test of time. Love this car! Owner will be very happy.

@@brandenbartlett2688 Couldn't agree more. I picked up a 20+ yr old 986 that drives like a wet dream. Second owner put 3,800 miles on it in 16 years. It's like they bought it and saved it for me (and I am sure I paid 1/10 the price). Its my daily driver I drive hard every day, and it still turns heads and stops traffic.🚘

I'm now 70 and retired and can't get around very well but I can still learn and that is why I watch your Vlog. You are far from crazy. Entertainer yes but you know your stuff. Bang on the money. For years Derek was teaching us how even an idiot can fix a car, pretending to be an idiot but we always knew he wasn't. What a great entertainer. See he's taking more of a back seat nowadays which is what happens when you become successful after working from the roots up, widens the audience and ups the game, still incredible to watch for free! Every now and then he goes back to trying to get a wreck partially roadworthy driving for miles in through rain with oil spraying on the windshield, temperature gauge going crazy, no brakes and you never know if he will make it or not, which for me is the best.

Derrick is a great personality for this type of content. There's humor, knowledge, and a great example of what family dynamics can be! I love this guy and this is awesome seeing him getting people that have been in the game for a long time... that is showing that he is producing the best content! I love this channel so much! Derrick is such a great guy! I can't wait to eventually meet him.

I've been using Griots stuff on my daily driver for years. Its the best product line I've found after years of trying just about all of them. The leather conditioner is hands down the best stuff you can buy. Just remember to wear gloves when you use it. It's is designed to penetrate hide, so while it wont harm you, the scent will be steaming out of your hands for days. Although thats a small price to pay for making your car smell like its brand new again.

Griot's is the Koch Chemie of America. If you remember those early DVDs Rich Griot would do himself, (its not really THAT long ago), he had this one trick he called the concours prep finish, when he puts down 3 separate layers of carnuba between long set-ups, without buffing them off (well, you buff out the top layer). It doesn't last very long, but it is almost flourescent.

I used to work in a detail shop I've never buffed a car without washing it first & the window tracks that you're trying to buff out would clean up really easy with some paint thinner or alcohol then take the one inch buff do it

Awesome and amazing video and transformation! This was so great for the Griots Team to come to your shop with Kevin Tetz and help out with this great project. It was so much better than I ever thought possible too. Their products are so amazing and work so well! And collaborating with them to do this like it turned out was so cool for the family. Keep it up and thanks for providing us the best channel and content on the KZbin Derek! God bless you and your family. Have a blessed weekend.

on all of the GTOs that ive had, i always had things in the trunk slide into the rear quarter panels and dent them, but i didnt see any of that on this one. I found that the steering wheel covers actually help keep it from cracking.

That GTO really came back great! Of course it should have considering the episode was basically a 25 minute ad for car care products. If I wanted to see that I'd watch one of those car shows on cable.
