This is one the of the funnest cars I have ever worked on, it can be frustrating trying to find rare, old, discontinued parts, but thats all part of the thrill. Let me know if you guys would like to see more updates. I will be focusing on the paint and body next.
@danrice8351 Жыл бұрын
Man those discontinued parts! Mine is digital dash, and has an electronic HVAC control system (impossible to find components), and the wiper control assembly is one-off as well. I got junkyard parts at a premium, which promptly broke as well, so I don't have wipers. I'm otherwise at 100% though.
@TheFixTech Жыл бұрын
Good job! Sadly people are buying these to part out and charge a premium for parts, a high premium. You can still find a deal here and there on certain items, but it will take time

Mechanically they are the same as IROC camaros.

I had a total of 4 1989 GTA's, and I loved them.
@TheFixTech Жыл бұрын
Any specific reason for 1989 only? Or were they by chance? Great cars all in all
@z512345 Жыл бұрын
I liked the styling and I just got use to it. I had 2 white, 1 black, and a red , all with T tops and automatic trans with the dual converter option. A matter of fact, one of my white GTA's I sold to a kid from town about 30 years ago. He is a town Policeman now and he still owns the car. Every now and again I see it. It is still beautiful.@@TheFixTech

I had a 89 Trans Am. Blue with silver on the body kit. It also had the silver honeycomb wheels. Loved that car.

These are great cars, very fun to work on.

This was my dream car for many years. Only managed to get the regular TA, but I sure did have a ton of fun in that car. If I ever won the lottery I'd most certainly have a few firebirds of various generations. Thanks for saving another from the wrecker. That test drive bit was hilarious. Little guy really rocked the 80's vibe to the max! 😆👍

Thanks, I’ll post more videos soon (paint/body) and will see if the special guest can make an appearance.

@@TheFixTech Are you considering the fast back hatch if you can find one? Reduces quite a bit of weight at the cost of some interior space, but sure does look sharp.
@TheFixTech Жыл бұрын
I had an opportunity to buy a GTA notch but didn’t have the money at the time. I believe only 718 were made. Finding a notch hatch by itself is a needle in a haystack, but indeed will be very cool.
@Eremon1 Жыл бұрын
@@TheFixTech I thought I had read somewhere they made aftermarket notchback hatches...but I can't find anything. Too bad. Still a beautiful car as is. Cheers.

I painted my 89 a couple times back in the day. First time I had a cheapy paint shop spray it with me prepping it, they didn’t add flex to the paint so the front bumper started to crack within months. It wasn’t the red I liked ether, so I broke it all down again and went with a sharp candy red /orange. Two jbl amps. Eq, flow comp, 6 speakers for highs and mids, and two jbl 12s. - wreaked it a few months later 😩 bought a 69 cougar though, so there’s that. Get a new rear wing, it’s worth not having to fight with the old one. And upgrade the suspension - you can make it a lot better than stock for just a little extra, and it’s sooo worth it. Can’t wait for the next update man. Loved seeing the 80s you driving it too, clever. 👍👍🤘

Thanks, I ended up purchasing and painting a replica fiberglass spoiler wing as the old one was too far gone. My uncle had a Cougar, great car!

Nice job. Mine is nearly identical. 87, white, digital dash, but cloth interior. Glad to see you putting the work in and keeping this car on the road and in nice shape!

They’re actually pretty fast if you remove all of the emissions garbage, add a proper exhaust system and tune them for high octane gas.

Great video. I would do a tasteful performance upgrade with the Lingenfelter/Accel Superram intake, head upgrade (AFR), and cam upgrade. The L98s typically fall flat at 4,500 rpm, but the Superram will make the motor pull to 7,000 rpm. The Lingenfelter Superram is hard to find these days, but they actually add more value to these cars.
@TheFixTech Жыл бұрын
I was thinking the exact same thing, I can’t utilize the AFR heads for smog purposes. I did secure a set of Performer Edelbrock heads that are street legal for my state. Now I’m hunting through intake options, but prices are yikes….

❤❤ my first car was a GTA, white like this too!! I had the base interior grey. I had a nice 355 built and a hard shifting 700r4 so it still had the overdrive. Wow I miss that car 😢😢. Keep up the videos!!

Thanks, my first car was an 83 olds. Ironically I had a 98 mustang gt same color combo (white with saddle tan leather interior), that car is long gone. I’ve had other trans am before but never a GTA, I am restoring this car to the best of my abilities and will post updates soon.

Sub'd because of this vid! Can't wait for more. Love the Trans Ams! First car I owned when @ 17 was a 84 Firebird V6. Hate how the GTA's only had the Auto option. Auto's back then were gross! :P Plus having something like this some of the most fun is banging through the gears!

Hey, great car. Which fan switch are you using? The factory from an 86-87 3.8 Turbo Regal that turns on at 213F. Hypertech used to make one as well.

I am using the switch from an 89 Turbo Trans Am, I believe it is rated at 210. Could the the same as the grand national though.

How did you rebuild the power antenna? I have a dead power antenna
@TheFixTech9 ай бұрын
If the motor still works then you can either solder in a new steal retractor cable or purchase a new power antenna cable repair kit (these will be plastic and will fail in time)
