Grew up going here every year as a child. Have so many good memories from it. Kills me to see it this way.

I was a bluecoat at Blackpool in 1985 aged 21. It has always stayed with me, some good times some bad but that is life. I have made contact over the years with other bluecoats I worked with but time has moved on and it's impossible to recaptured those times.

I remember going here as a kid with my dad, my nanna and my cousins happy times they were and now the place is gone I loved the swimming pool the best of all thank you for sharing with us all

Do you mean that circular area? My childhood memories are so faint but remember a shallow circular water area. I also remember a paddle boat that was sunk in the middle of it (I went in late 80's). The whole area felt massive as a child.

Blackpool was one of the best pontins holiday camps. Such a mistake they destroyed it. They've closed all the best camps, such as Wall Park in Brixham, Barton Hall Torquay. Sadly with its present management, what few camps are left of Pontin's are going down hill rapidly.

In fairness to pontins they did want to do the camp up and renew the lease , they probably did see it as a potential flag ship for pontins going forward but the owner of the land seen things differently unfortunately.

As an ex proffesional wrestler,i did shows there from 1974 to 1986,and met many friends there in that time,it was the best camp of them all,and my grandma ,uncle and auntie lived on the camp when it was Squires gate in 1951/2,sadly missed.

The two things that made the whole holiday camp experience what it was were lots and lots of people and investment in the camps themselves. You'd have to have been to them at their peak to understand the sense of life and happiness that came from being at fully booked camp full of activities and fun. Once that went so did the investment. The decrepid empty shells we ended up with in Blackpool and other pontins were/are unrecognisable.

I stayed at Blackpool in the 70s and i still remember it as one of the best holidays ive ever had, 10 out of 10 so sad to see such negative comments Im going to start a bring back Pontins campaign............

+Keith Blake Well it be great to see a pontins back in Blackpool and they could really use it for the area as well! Unfortunately it wont be on the the site it was on as the building of the houses has started. I stayed in Blackpool pontins for years as a kid with my parents! I would not have one complaint about the place and either would they, and the staff in Blackpool pontins where always amazing as well.

@martymart1980 I was a Bluecaot and a entertainments Manager here for 3 seasons during the mid 80's ..When they started knocking this site down it was criminal..One of the most valueble assets that Pontins had..many great memories ..

Sadly a place now I will never get to see, I was shocked to discover when it was closed in 2009. then the last was they had a fire somewhere on the site. A lot of history is gone. Thank you for sharing

I worked here in 1972 as an overworked Chalet maid! I worked in the chalets that were across a field where they would put all the young holiday makers...out of sight out of mind. Good times!

Scrummy Breakfasts Fun Fun Fun in the pool. Then into Blackpool, Winter Gardens and Pleasure Beach, come back starving... Soup and turkey in the Canteen...and as much ice cream as you could munch down. Great Live entertainment at night. Whites Lemonade from the massive bar area. Collapse to bed.

Just an update on the site,they have started to demolish the site,the bar,leisure centre and swimming pool are demolished now along with alot of the accommodation,very sad to see.

@martymart1980 Ya its a real shame and as a visitor to this park for the last couple of years it was really sad to go around the camp when it was closed,it was like a ghost town,hard to believe a place that was so full of life could be so quiet .

Have some fond memories of it when I was young, the room we had wasn't that good but was liveable why did they close Pontins Blackpool?

They closed due to the greed of the owner he was leasing it out to pontins but decided to close it and demolish and build houses backed my government scheme,it is still derelict at the moment with work due to start on the houses but all in all it could have be kept open even for a few year more as noting was done with the site in last few years, its a huge loss to the area in my opinion as it obviously brought alot of traffic into the pleasure beach and shops etc. Really sad to see it that way such a shame.

does anyone realise that once a light aircraft crashed into some of the holiday makers chalets? Some of the kitchen staff helped with the rescue

then i went to great yarmouth to find out caister pontin gone too why the better pontins site have been shut down?or were they the bigger sites cause most left are the smallers ones, and i went to pakefield not long ago, i never go again !!! but loved blackpool cant belive it gone

yeh and because if this person i ended up in rubbish haven camp. Pontins is the only holiday camp that is the closest to a nostalgic 70s holiday camp and thats why love it so much. Butlins and haven, have lost there soul, there just heartless overpriced, money grabbing twats. So it breaks my heart when another camp shuts. Its just such a waste It must be more awful for you though. Do you know why they closed it thanks :)
