It looks so great, I loved watching everything you two did with the Sputter Butt also. I wish I was half as clever and inventive. Well done.

I really enjoyed your videos. Around 5 years ago my girlfriend and I built a 16 foot house boat and floated down the Willamette River in Oregon from Corvallis to just south of Portland. Not a long trip in miles but we spent 28 days on the water. Mostly we just drifted with the current, it's a small river with lots of shallows but our boat only drew about 7 or 8 inches so we had no problems. I built the two hulls (2 feet wide) out of 3/8ths plywood tapering to a pointed bow with a slight taper in the flat stern transom. The bottoms were flat with a three inch rise from mid hull to bow. All joints were glued with polyurethane and externally tapped with fiberglass and West System epoxy. We added 3 longitudinal strips cut from a 2x6 piece of Trex decking to the bottom to act as bottom protection and to help keep the boat going straight in side winds. The hulls were then painted with a bunch of coats of oil based house paint and I then filled the front and back of each hull with some two part expanding foam (but not the whole thing because of $$$ foam) We were inspired to build the boat after going to Camp Tipsy which is a camp out on a reservoir in Northern California where they bring a giant pile of junk and some power tools which attendees turn into junk boats. Many people prebuild and there are a few large very artistically built party barges. camptipsy.com

Looks great! I completely agree on instruments _ an Ipad and ap's will give you all the navigation/chart/moving maps and weather info you need. Add engine instruments and a depth finder and you are good to go.

It's great to see the progress on the Shanty boat build. Can I suggest using pex pipe for your water lines it will stand up to the cold better. Also do you know how much does the building and appliance weigh. When I was building mine I found out that the Coast guard approved weight is half submerged boat.
@bretbecky7115 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure how much the appliances weigh, but we're adding a third pontoon for good measure. Thanks for the pex idea!

You should take the table and chairs and add an extension to the ends with a hinge and get fold able cushions. Hard to explain what I mean so in other words make drop leafs that pull up with legs under them to make your table and seats long enough to turn the kitchen table and chairs into a bigger bed. Just a thought, to save you a little room.

Nice. May I suggest with Latex glue in 2 inch thick polyurethane in the walls and glue on a neat fabric or textured wall covering. A light weight solution.

@bretbecky7115 жыл бұрын
Thanks! We were hoping to get it finished this year, but it's been so hot outside that we just can't stand the heat to work on it very much. The wrist and knee.....old age. lol. Arthritis I suppose. Thanks for watching and taking time to comment!

Hi Becky - what's new on the houseboat? We're working on a plan and your videos are so helpful. Where are you? You sound like you're from KY or Western NC where I live. I've learned a lot from you and look forward to hearing from you again soon. Thanks.

Hi! I'm from Georgia, but I live in Tennessee. We haven't done very much to the houseboat because it's been so hot. How's yours coming along?

@bretbecky7114 жыл бұрын
It's plain old Luan. The weather isn't hurting it though because we have 2 coats of stain and 2 coats of spar urethane on it, and, rain water doesn't really stay on it long because the walls are vertical. Will you be uploading video of your build?
