As always from your channel, a video that’s entertaining AND instructional. Highlights for me: the U bolts instead of deck cleats; my back thanks you, the engine monitoring app and the WTF offset plywood sheets. Based on my carpentry background, I would have absolutely concluded that the offset plywood sheets meant the deck was out of square. THAT would have driven me nuts! 🤪 You folks have a great long weekend!

To be honest I’m not sure the pontoon manufacturers get their pontoons and framing perfect, and it shows when the plywood gets laid. I’ve had to unbolt crossmembers and move them so that they’re square with the others in order to get seams to work. It’s a mess, Andy theory is that the manufacturers make them look good with deck trim and everything else and no one ever notices. Being off by 1/4” over 20’ of deck would never show to the naked eye, and I’m guessing they count on that rather than spending more time/money to make it all perfect!! Just my $0.02 on that topic. The black deck trim looks REALLY great on that boat. I sold my most recent rebuild project last week, have casually started looking for my next. Spent $2500 total for boat and rebuild, sold it for $4500. I’m definitely not working in your price range 😂

A couple of questions… 1) what length is that fence package? Pontoonstuff doesn’t show dimensions. 2) can you talk about the acid in the toons process? 3) does that center sun deck pad actually open or does it hit the seats? Two videos I watched where you add them but you don’t actually open it… just the side ones.

To answer your questions: This was an 18' kit. I did have a couple of extra panels left over from another project which extended it slightly, and we had a minor seating change (removed an armrest) to make it all fit and work. I'm sure they're working on a layout with dimensions. The tricky part is that dimensions can change based on where you put each panel and where you want your doors. Best thing to do is to take the list of panels included and draw it out on a piece of paper. The sundeck kit is 26" (front to back) and the 30" corners are a 32"x32" space. Add in the straight panels from there and the seating you're looking for and you will have it laid out the best possible way currently. I'll do a video soon on this topic as I think it's a common issue for folks looking to order a kit. I have started ordering the next kit up from my actual deck length in some cases to get a different variety of panels to work with. Sometimes having a couple extras can be a huge help, and for an extra $100-$200 it's worth it to me. I have a full install video of this railing kit coming soon and will show that. However, when you install a seat in front of the middle cushion is will restrict it quite a bit...and then if you screw the seat back to the railing for a better fit up with the cushion it will greatly reduce the ability to open. It's basically there to open IF the motor hits it on the way up. Otherwise I store the batteries under there (which are reachable from outside of the back of the boat or from reaching around the sundeck panels) and assume it'll be used just as a cushion and not needing access to store things under as it's partially open to the elements. The side cushions are easy to open and give great access to those compartments. Thanks for watching and for the great questions!

I just took a peek at the second video. That’s a huge project and would be a blast! I wish those guys would reach out to me when starting their projects. I could save them a lot of headache!! Like running a low end spool gun setup on the toons…I hope they pressure check them because I’m pretty sure it’s going to have a lot of pin hole leaks!! I’m sure at 1.65 million subscribers there’s a budget for those projects…I’ll keep dreaming of reaching that point. In the meantime we will keep working on customers’ boats and sharing what we do and the how-to side of things!!

One of the Best builds. Only have two questions they lost some front deck space loved that about Avalons. And just curious why you didn’t move helm up against starboard lean back? Awesome build as usual. Keep them coming.

I think accessing the leanback storage compartment would be difficult with the helm pushed forward? Maybe?

They wanted to maximize inside space for seating and never had a use for the front deck. On a 20’ boat if you leave much deck outside you lose a lot of places for people to sit inside. Just personal preference there. The lean backs won’t open 100% if pushed tight to the console so I avoid putting them there unless the customer REALLY wants it that way. Most of the time having a little extra space is appreciated for stowing coolers, towel bags, snacks, etc. A boat can fill up fast when everyone brings a bag/food/coolers.

Do you have any projects where you converted a gas tank to utilize a fuel filler?

Not sure what you mean there? We use water/fuel separators on tons of boats we restore, but nothing on the tank needs to be modified for those. Just the fuel lines.
