Looks like I have to change plans…. Whistlindiesel already put a hellcat on a pontoon. Back to the drawing board. 😂

Seems like your editing got better. Love the channel, stay true without too much sponsoring IMO. People love DIY also because these projects only apply to the country you're at. Shorter videos could work better for you with a first person view (mic on) like many other channels do.

Are you going to light each pontoon or each section like a dance floor? It would look cool if you have them sync to music.

hey zach. you should think about making a jig for your spacing and hole drilling. the results would be exact for all the bracing. could cut down on time too! good luck brother. awesome build!

Agreed. I prefer the longer videos. It’s not so choppy that way. As a side note,,,, all he has to do is work 20 hour days and he could put out a nice long video weekly, NO PROBLEM!! 😂😂. Whatever works best for him ultimately,,,,,,,. I’m interested up in this one the most!! 😊

What a great idea. I love that the pontoons are individual pieces. Being compartmentalized, if one section gets punctured, the rest stays afloat.

In regards to flooring, have you put any thought into using a composite product like Trex decking? I know marine-grade plywood is kind of the go-to, but laying down a composite deck would be cool.

I’d use a smaller pilot bit and go through the top of the cross brace and through everything that would mark all the holes at once then just drill out where the actual need the hole.
@DougsMessyGarage Жыл бұрын
Tech tip, when drilling holes in aluminum, it's actually easier to drill a pilot hole with a smaller bit (1/8") and then come back and drill out to the final size. Yes, it seems counter-intuitive to drill twice as many holes but the pilot drill method is actually much easier.

I love this channel. Very great tips on building a pontoon boat. But as a medical professional when you're drilling these holes, wear some safety goggles. One metal shard into your eyes will of course cause damage. We want you around for a long time. Keep up the fantastic videos.

Pontoon boat owner here. This is a very interesting build. A few questions already after watching is...do they offer those toons in black? White will stain im afraid. What is the weight difference when done? And finally, i wish you went with a heavier motor mount. That size boat needs at least a 150hp., trust me.
@johnslack9679 Жыл бұрын
White would appear to stain. At least with aluminum you can acid wash them and polish which is a lot of work. I'll have to check the website for black versions. They could discolor but not as noticeable. Very cool the toons have lifting strakes!

Please do longer videos! I know the editing is tedious but I really like to chill watching you work :) Thanks! PS: Oh, and as others have beat me to it, make some jigs to help you with the drilling after you get the floor on the right spot. I believe it will help a lot!

Support Beam: Maybe their design calls for it but you have the nuts on top. If a nut comes off, then the bolt falls out. I would suggest you put the bolts on the top with the nuts below, unless it goes against the design.
@MichaelDavey18 Жыл бұрын
Definitely longer videos . You wanna get a chalk line and run it centre all the way down the support beams then ping it. Set your first support beam then; In construction, laying flooring joists' which is the same as you laying the cross beams, if the joists were supposed to be 400mm on centre and we were using 2 inch wide joists (50mm) we'd cut a length of 2x2 (inch) at 400 minus 1 inch = 375 in length, then just butt it up to the first cross member then lay the next cross beam up, and mark on the opposite side, so you dont lose "the centre" It's late in the uk; 3:28 am, so if this doesn't make sense, that's why :)

If all the holes are identically placed for all braces, you might make a jig to eliminate measuring on each crossmember and assuring identical drilling location for all crossmembers. Just a thought. Either way you’re gonna do great on this build I bet.
@Wegl79 Жыл бұрын
Another production improvement would be to get a cheap Harbor Freight drill press, set up a stop to set your hole spacing and do all of your cross bracing fabrication at one time. Handle each piece once; that’s the rule.

Definitely longer episodes. This one looks like it just might be your best pontoon series yet simply because you're actually building it "ground" up your way, your specs. I myself would love to build one a quad toon with the outer toons a walk way and one section longer with a cabin in the middle and sun decks for and aft with the stern on bigger than the bow one and a sun deck on top with a aux helm on top forward. The cabin made to sleep 4 to 6 persons and a small kitchenette. Twin salt water 4 stroke engines of course. It would definitely be a Florida Keys sand bar party barge toon. Lots of led lighting with Coast Guard racing stripe a Veterans emblem over the racing strip to be legal. Of course a really nice bar on the stern deck.

I seen that you put the bolts from the bottom and the nuts on the top. I think it should be the other way around. If the nuts ever loosen the bolts will fall out. The other way around is, if the nut loosens the nut will fall out and the bolts will stay in.
