Well Kudos for the Lady calling them and asking for help and telling them she just couldn't handle/keep care of this sweet pony! That is more than most of these stories I hear and see. I usually get disgusted hearing of rescue stories, I'm just glade she called before it was way too late & who knows what place the little pony lived before too.

I'm not sure why someone who doesn't know how to care properly for pony or horse has one in the first place. At least she did the right thing and signed the pony over. I'm so glad that that you all worked together to help this pretty girl get her health back. She looks much happier and healthier! What a sweetheart she is!

Oh...Bella is such a pretty pony. What a difference in Bella now. She is very vocal and clearly enjoys the human attention! I hope Bella finds a good forever home where her sweetness is appreciated.

There's no excuse for ignorance when it comes to animals. But there's plenty of it around. They just become afterthoughts, like inanimate stuffed animals they can just toss away. What would compel her partner to just bring a horse home one day, out of the blue? A gambling debt? A drunken impulse? A joke, a gimmick, a surprise? -- I'm just glad the owner finally called it in, and I'm very glad this beautiful horse got the care she needed. But I never know whether to give a story like this thumbs up or a thumbs down. Very thankful and very pissed at the same time.

Because ponies aren't big & scary, they are often acquired by people who'd be better off with a teddy bear. I've heard some very sad stories. Pony owners, please take care when you sell your animals. Thank you to WHW.

I don' t condone what happened to Bella in any way. If you listened to the whole story,this was a woman with a large family and no horse experience. Her husband bought Bella on a whim for the children and expected his wife to care for her. Realising her lack of experience,she called for help and signed the pony over to World Horse Welfare where she could be given the right Care.

The same applies to any pet, cats, dogs etc many people buy them because they are cute and when they start growing they just don't wish to know. Once you have any sort of pet its a lifetime commitment, you don't get to discard it once it has grown up.

No matter how less experience you have, every nut knows you can't keep a pony like this. IT's no excuse. The woman could have called someone asking how to feed and keep a pony. She didn't.

Everyone's jumping all over this woman for not stepping up to the task of taking care of an expensive, high maintenance animal that was dumped into her lap instead of, you know, the person who was actually responsible - her husband. He's the genius who decided that an additional responsibility (that she was in no way prepared for) on top of their kids would be a great surprise for his wife. And then he apparently didn't lift a finger to help feed or tend to this poor animal when the recipient of his "gift" became overwhelmed by the task. I'm willing to bet $100 that he even guilted her into keeping Bella "for the kids" when she objected and tried to find another home for her. As far as feeding her vegetable scraps goes, I can kind of see the messed up logic behind it: "Well, horses eat hay, but I don't have time between caring for all my kids and my idiot husband to go all the way out to where I can actually acquire hay. Hay is a plant, vegetables are also plants, hopefully these vegetables will hold her over until I can figure out something better." Again, far from ideal, but it's not like she was feeding her cheeseburgers or pine cones or something. Somebody in charge definitely should have called WHW before the situation got this bad (preferably as soon as the idiot husband brought Bella home IMHO), but too much of the blame in these comments is being placed on the one person who actually did something to make things right in the end.
@armoredwings41825 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Just never give your significant other an animal as a gift unless you both have experience with the animal. Horses are so expensive, the woman technically did take responsibility by giving her to people that know horses.

how the hell do you not know that horses need hay and oats
@RockyCrazy1008 жыл бұрын
Horses don't need hay and oats. All summer my horse has grass and only grass. In winter he gets hay as the grass dies off however he doesn't get oats as he would become unmanageable
@classicambo97818 жыл бұрын
In saying that Grass can be far too high in sugars as well and isn't suitable for all horses, particularly ponies. Some ponies prone to laminitis should only be given hay that has been soaked to remove some of the sugar content and a small amount of linseeds to make up the omega 3's lost by not having fresh green pick. Horse nutrition is a complex thing and should always be guided by professionals :-)
@Saartje058 жыл бұрын
Still no excuse for the woman keeping the pony as she did. She could have asked anyone how to but she didn't. You must be blind not seeing the animal is getting thinner and the stable is not suitable and dirty. You don't need to be an expert for that.
@laurenmcmillan43998 жыл бұрын
Not everyone knows how to take care of a pony. And that's not all they eat

Lauren McMillan Then they should ask. Every idiot knows they eat grass. And yes, they eat other things, but NOT kitchen waste. Even my grandmother knew THAT.

Isn't basic knowledge what to feed horses? They graze eat hay and oats and I believe mixed grains as well. But you can't feed to much oats to a horse. I'm a bit foggy on that but I know a few cups of oats are allowed. Ah yes and treats and fruits and veggies as well.
@georginalewis10507 жыл бұрын
why would you feed a pony old left overs!! Everyone should know that if you are going to get a horse or a pony that they need quit a bit of hay, lots of water and to be checked and cleaned out daily.
