Haggis, was overweight and lame with long feet when a World Horse Welfare Field Officer found him, but after the care given to him by the staff at Belwade Farm, Aboyne, he has now gone on to lead a happy, healthy life rehomed to Chloe.
In this video we show how Haggis is getting ready to meet a special guest at Belwade Farm, HRH The Princess Royal.

I am so glad Princess Anne was so touched by the pony's sad story that she decided to pay it a royal visit. That shows just how caring and an animal lover she is.

Raising horses and ponies as a child I've always been amazed by ferriers (we called them blacksmiths). This gentleman really took into account the leg and tendon issues and trimmed accordingly. NOT EASY! Hats off to him and all others in this pony's recovery!

My daughter found a white pony standing in the middle of the road with feet in the same shape she walked her to where we lived ...Called the sheriff and she now lives with us ..with all her medical problems she is being treated well here 🤗🥰🥰🥰💖💖💖💖💖🙏🙏🙏🙏it took her almost two weeks for her to walk properly again ..arthritic hips and shoulders, plus joints ,she had been foundered, nobody had claimed her ....

Wild horses natural environment is often rugged terrain and I believe their constant movement looking for food wears down their hoof naturally just a head of natural growth. That's my understanding of it.

I have a reoccurring NIGHTMARE of only being able to walk on my knees - I don't *love* horses like some of my friends do/have - I'm a cat person, (dog person second) - this makes me *weep* - *thank you* to anyone who rescues theses lovely horses and gives them the dignity they deserve

Guessing poor little Haggis being so obese was because he was in so much pain from his overgrown hooves, he couldn't move around that much! So glad he was rescued!

Hello Haggis. We have a Haggis too - from the SSPCA in the spring time, a bit neglected before SSPCA got him. It's very rewarding working with these horses who have had a bad start, seeing them becoming more confident and their little personalities developing. My Haggis will be 2 in the spring time and he's destined for life as a driving pony if he is suited to it, which every indication seems to be that he is. :)

He looks so much better now! I have never seen hooves that badly overgrown, that must have been so painful for the poor lil guy! He is such a little cutie, I just want to hug him. I hate that there are people out there neglecting their animals. Thank God for all the amazing, hard working people combating the neglect and saving these wonderful, innocent lives. God bless all of them!

An addition, Horses in the wild move more intensely and often on a rather sparse diet compares to what domestic horses often get (massive calorie overload leading to obesity). So not only more movement, but also less calories. That, and natural selection pressure for decent hooves.

Plus, to add to the comments already posted. Its a for sure thing, he was most likely kept in a very small pen or stall to prevent movement and there for having no way to naturally wear his hooves.
