Note: The gems/bust status doesn't just tie to the development (Normal, Impact, Star, Elite) but also the amount of skill caps. A green gem can develop higher then a normal player typically because they will have less skill caps and also busts usually have more skill caps meaning they can't develop as high. Just thought I would mention that.

I have noticed quite a few Normal Dev Trait players hitting their cap after being redshirted their 1st year. So they end up being better than some of the impact and star dev players during their redshirt freshman year. It feels odd to play them and then they end up on the bench the next 2 or 3 years when the higher dev trait players catch up.

Yes they changed how gems work. They made it better for people who use motivator/ tactician coaches, along with talent developer/architec. Those random bonuses will be more affective for those gems than bust

You have to recruit for abilities too. You can’t just rely on dev traits. If they have a trait you want you recruit that player regardless.

@@PoodleGaming Tight Ends have been kind meh to be honest this entire time. They never seem to naturally get receiving abilities outside of Recoup, especially non-blocker archetypes. Vertical threats, even 4-5 stars with almost no skill caps can't ever get abilities or an impact star in almost 15 years into my dynasty, not even the most elite ones. It's the main thing I miss from NCAA football 12 and how you could naturally get 90, 95 overall plus receiving Tight End stars. Not to mention Kickers and Punters never seem to get better like in the old games.

It really makes no sense to me tho . Gems should be tied to def trait. And the star should be tied to rating. For instance, IRL you wouldn’t know a 5 or 4 star is a bust until about year or two of playing. They come with hype (high rating) but develop slow or not at all because they are bust (dev trait) . Makes no sense for a 4 star gym to start as an 80 and end a 85 ovr SR. If that was the intended logic then it seems a bit flawed to me

The idea of a "hidden gem" IRL is that he ends up better than you expected. It makes more sense the way it had been...and so far in my 3 online dynasties, it still seems that way. I'll pay closer attention now, though, especially since I'm in on some busts that look good on paper. We'll see what their devs end up.

I noticed that it changed after my most recent class. I recruited a 4 star green gem rb and a 5 star ol normal. The RB started at 75, has a high dev trait but is heavily stat capped and will probably be maxed out after his rs fr year. The ol is in the low 80s and will definitely be maxed out after red shirting.

4 star gem TE elite dev #1 TE in class, 2 visible stat caps only. Like appears to be an uncapped player. His overall appears that he is going to top out at 84-86. They did something to the TE position and seemingly the only way I can get a 90s TE from a recruited player is to convert a physical ATH WR and then they are already capped on all traits except blocking and their blocking rapidly improves

Best way to develop TE’s is switch their position to WR through player card or position changes (whichever avoids slot archetype) letting them develop through WR gets their route running and hands tree’s sick. Have had Kyle Pitts Colston Loveland etc type TE’s with great badges

Closest I’ve seen to a generational recruit is a QB with all mental and physical abilities, almost no stat caps, star dev, and 83 overall as a freshman.

Most the 5* busts I had did turn out to be impact or normal, but they would still reach around an 88-92 overall on average before they graduated or went to the draft. I’ve only ever had a couple 5* players just cap out low at an 81-84

I still recruit some busts and alot of normies just because I need players who make it to their junior and senior year. alot of the time I find myself with too little upperclassmen depth because my 4 and 5 star gem players have all gone pro after their redshirt sophomore/true junior year. While I'd never use them at qb, these 4 and 5 star busts usually end up being solid rotational fillers for me at a variety of positions.

Some of my biggest jumps have came from ‘Impact’ dev trait guys. Some of my slower progressing players have been ‘Star’ or ‘Elite’ dev traits. It got so annoying that now I’ve taken an excel sheet for my entire roster and I’ve been tracking it for three seasons now. It’s wild.

If you have a good team and the player will be redshirt or down the depth chart, get the best athletes. Awareness will grow, and they will be great players by sophomore year. If they are a 81 speed safety or RB, they will never be fast. 96 idiot will be a great player eventually. Especially if you can carry them a year or two.

if they are capped I just move them around so the points get used then move them back. It works mostly for wr and RBs. Be careful not to turn your elusive RB into a pass catching back though. No negative impact on wr going to rb though. Also works for MLB and OLB. Sometimes I’ll find like 60 points on a player who mused and I’ll move them to RB and they’ll turn into a 99

for what its worth, I am on season 3 of a dynasty i started right about the same time this video dropped. I hadnt watched this video, but it is making me think there is something to it. I am western michigan and pretty much the best i can do is loading up on gem 3 stars. after 3 recruiting cycles these are my results: N - 0 (0%) I - 39 (60%) S -21 (32%) E -5 (8%) In 3 season, I have 65 commits, all 65 have been green gem, and 60% have been impact dev... that seems like some form of nurfing took place.

My strategy has always been 5 stars the 1st few weeks green get more time than red and as they get their visits scheduled start adding in 5 and 4 stars that I can will until all the 5 stars are gone then start mixing in the rest of the 4 stars I haven't had a class under top 3 since my 1st season but my coach is maxed out recruiter as well

You have to tell them that some players are bad because of archetype or theyre in a bad position i had a green gem safety was a hyrbid safety moved him to middle linebacker because he was 220 now hes the best MLB in my dynasty and been that way since his second year starting i also get the release skill cap ability too because it coukd literally clear all skill caps

Gems weren't always tied to dev traits. I understand how people got the misconception, but before this I noticed a good chunk of gems that just started at a higher overall than their star-rating would suggest - some of which capped out really early. Gems were literally a grab bag before, it could have meant dev traits, caps, OR starting ratings. Now it looks a bit more streamlined to primarily mean starting ratings and/or caps.

I think that the devs just finally figured out to fix a bug with the gems system without breaking a bunch of stuff at once. I saw no consistency with what the green gems actually meant before. Most of the time it was dev trait, sometimes it was stat caps, and sometimes it was starting ratings. I was still getting those green gems who started at a high ovr with bad stat caps back then. The busts were consistently bad. Now it looks like the devs just figured out how to make it work as intended, where the gems are primarily tied to starting ratings.

Is it now as simple as the gems represent whether a recruit is at the high, mid or low end of their OVR rating by tier? Where 5-stars represent players with starting ratings, say, between 77-83. 4-star perhaps 75-80. And so on. I’ve not studied this, but if there is now no bearing on dev traits or caps, then gems might just be tied to OVR alone.

After the second season, we are finally receiving HC offers. I'm interested in your expertise on which teams to target (best pipelines), should I pull the trigger in week 1 or wait until week 2, should i change my alma mater/playbook/etc.? I find the coaching carousel to be very tricky at times, especially when starting with a good school. I will get offers from 1 star schools after great seasons. Best pipelines in my opinion are Texas, Carolinas, Georgia, Florida.

Some formations have different names in a custom playbook vs. the original playbook. I know I had a hard time finding a formation from the UNLV playbook in the custom playbook, it was Go-Go something in the UNLV playbook but in the custom playbook it was called Duo Over or something.

If I redshirt a MLB on online dynasty that’s a a 91 overall will he get drafted? All of my LBs have 85 speed or more, and I want to save my MLB for next season to put as an OLB once the others graduate. Is it pointless to redshirt an upperclassmen who +90 rating? I’m prioritizing speed at LB. 😅

In my 32 user online league the first season months back I was desperate for linebackers with speed and got a 4* bust LB. He had high ratings like 76 OVR and is star dev. Terrible stat caps though. Look into this big dog. I think it's under view roster - stats - there's a spot in there you can see players abilities like catch in bounce for wr or qb pressure for qb or braces for hits etc. Are those set in stone or do they upgrade them as the seasons progress

That’s the way the game is programmed. When players want to transfer only the top 5 schools they are interested in are able to recruit them.

Haven't played the game in at least a month. The depth chart system was fucked man. I would change the depth chart in between games and when I get into the game that shit would revert back to before the change. Got tired of fuckin' with it. Did they fix that at all?

That usually only happened if you touched redshirts, if you touch the redshirt screen your depth chart reverts

What the reason for the difference for overalls from the one one the roaster number and the one in the right corner with the picture on the side?

The lower overall is the players base overall. The higher number includes stat bumps from coaching packages, like tactician.

Go check their ratings page, you will see the greyed out boxes. Can’t see this till after they are on your team.

I see gems tied to stat caps. Dev traits are just for how fast they develop skills and thus reach caps. Bust would mean player will have lower caps.

Isn’t there one of the coach perks you can unlock along one of the paths that shows the dev trait during scouting? Maybe it would be worth it to run that so you can look mainly at dev trait like you said and avoid normal or impact guys easier

It’s not worth it, ability isn’t consistent enough and the path is expensive.

Can you help me with terminology? Impact dev? What do you mean by impact? How is it different from elite? Capped? Uncapped? Thanks. Is there anyway to slow down the kicking meter. I'm older and my eyes aren't so good anymore. I looked in the accessibility menu but I can't find anything.

There dev traits, in order of how quickly players gain xp Capped / uncapped is referring to their skill caps. If you go into a player and look at their ratings page under their player card, you will see their caps
