For those who don't wanna deal with him that much, you can start the fight by unloading your cannon to his face and then summon 3 cats to get him to 0 ki and repeat final blows until he is dead. Or more "fair" way would be to use lightning spells / yokai abilities etc as he is quite weak to it. If you have corruption or purity on your weapon you can put confused on him with the help of lightning which will make the fight dramatically better for you.

OMG why didn't I think of the cat puss... but yeah, I eventually discovered he was weak to lightning, so I went and prepared a lot of Thunder-shot talisman, Tajin feathers, lightning talisman, Ninjutsu trick that lets you survive death and combo with sloth talisman(with greater efficiency) then beat him with mid-stance Switch-glaive. After he went down, I was hoping a cutscene would open up where I get to be-head him, after all the torture and suffering he inflicted on me.

@@blair5475 Because it would be incredibly dirty. Like yokai ability -> instant ki depletion -> izuna drop grapple into final blow and you are dead 😂. Easy way to kill any revenants for example in one combo and those have buffed stats.

Got stuck on this guy for nearly 2 hours, glad to know I'm not the only one who has trouble with him, I was starting to feel bad at the game all over again (though I'm sure I still have a ways to go). Maybe I'll try again after I outlevel this guy by a dozen or so, but at the same time I got stupidly close to downing him once (with an axe too!), so maybe I'll try again a tiny bit more EDIT: Just beat him, and it took only a little under 10 minutes this session! Having played through Nioh 1 in its entirety I thought Id give this a shot on my first playthrough and man people weren't joking this guy is a monster. Took me around 2 hours to beat him. I saw most of the people were saying that you are supposed to be super aggressive but the man has the Ki pool of a god. Ended up beating him through some pretty good defensive play through backwave parries and getting poke damage in (My defensive play is pretty solid as I mained DS is Nioh 1). I did manage to get in one or two full combos though so that was nice. Anyway I know this video is a bit old now but as someone who is getting into Nioh 2 late I've been loving this series and your play inspired me to pick up the Katana for my first run of this game. Great content dude!

Looking at the fight something I'd love to see in Nioh 3 is affixing certain spells to active skills. Make a sort of Magic Swordsman or something. Like imagine unleashing a Iai quickdraw that simultanously casts something like Thunderstorm magic or something.

This enemy was definitely frustrating. It the end i got mad and decided to give him his own medicine. Equiped heavy armor + Odachi, rushed him mid stance and spamed light -> light -> Charging Bull -> Pulse. It worked surprisingly well.

I've been watching your nioh 2 academyseries and stopped before this thinking you wouldn't do it b/c you've only been doing main missions lol I wish I just checked before attempting this 😭. But even so I have managed to beat him and I must say that even though I raged like crazy after dying 20+ times, I have learned so much and have gotten so much better at playing the game b/c of him. He forced me to hone in evasion and stance switching as well as really knowing my own move sets and using them efficiently. For me this was excellent at pushing my own gameplay to a higher and more proficent level. I've been mainly using high stance and using flux 2 for the ki recovery but immediatley going back to high stance. This really helped me to understand true stance switching and using low stance much more comfortably. I would really like to be more comfortable with midstance but I just don't know what to do with it yet so I'm looking forward to your future videos for parrying and more tech. Thanks for all that you do. Your channel is awesome and you are super helpful.

Managed to beat up after like 20 attempts with odachi and magic. I managed to beat him at his own game by using the atk debuff and sloth talisman, with lighting shot and thunderstorm. Barrier talisman helped too. I mostly fought in low stance since his attacks were so fast

I went Odachi vs Odachi. Once I was able to read his openings, I found this worked for me. Stay in his face. 3 mid strikes then the skill that follows combo with the High strong attack, then switch back to mid and repeat. (Spam Ki pulse at combo end.) It will reduce ki fast and sometimes you can stun lock him with repeats. When ki is low use yokai ability. Grapple. I also used Barrier Talisman to keep my Ki going. Took about 50 tries, got him to a sliver and he starts ignoring all damage, then I'm dead.

My favorite method with him is unruly revolution spam with splitstaff. It befuddles human enemies, they just stand there and block going "what's he doing"? while i destroy their ki. Pair it with lifeseal talisman (applied while he gets up from a final blow) and lightning familiar and he has zero ki the whole fight.

Been watching the series as I picked up Nioh 2 on Steam a while back while it was on sale. Got too this guy and saw you had a mini guide of sorts for him. Was very helpful and this guy really started to teach me Ki Management and Stance Dancing a LOT. Took about 30-40 attempts. I'm a very tenacious person. About 3 or 4 tries got him below 10%. Finally beat him just now and checked some stuff Mission Level 65 My Level: 60 Gear Levels: 48-52 Range Me: Oh... I was underlevel'd and geared... That probably explains a lot... lmao

I figured my gear score was too low too but the only high level weapon I had was a katana and I wasn't too familiar with its moveset compared to dual katanas. I had low level gear but I kinda cheesed by consuming amrita stones and lantern fruits to use yokai shift and yokai attacks. I got him to about half health and was basically home free when I transformed into a yokai.

I ran into this guy, faintly remembering you mention this boss was an ass kicker but I didn’t remember him until my 4th attempt. It took me 5 tries to beat him, i was unreasonably pissed off, but when I remembered even end game people have trouble with this guy i felt much better. I beat him using the fists, i imbued them with lightning and was incredibly aggressive, using the move that launches him into the air and trying to break his ki and poise as much as possible. In the end when i got him to near death i spammed 8 lightning shots at him since he can’t block them.

Feathers on Zero Ki enemies is where my biggest damage was coming from at this point. It was a difference between Hundreds of damage to Thousands of Damage. Also Lightning element really slowed down his shenanigans.

But also it took me awhile to beat him because i was still new to the game and did not bring more than three healing medicines when i started the fight. I was stocked up with 8 heals it would not taken me so many tries to beat him.

I beat Saito both in the initial playthrough, at low level, and I beat him in Way of the Nioh and in the Depths more recently. I also beat Melania on my 3rd attempt. These bosses are problematic, but in entirely different ways. Saito’s issues is ignoring the entirety of the human ki system and crazy speed that can require crazy reflex and ai manipulation. Saito genuinely gets easier as the player get far more tools to deal with him. I would say a good chunk of Elden Ring is actual garbage compared to the masterpieces From usually releases. Elden ring nerfs the player mechanically (adding long buffer time post-attack, adding a large amount of dodge recovery, bosses that have sekiro combos but player has no deflect option) Melinia mechanically is just a lame genichiro clone with health regen on hit, with a sister friede explosion and combos thrown in for good measure in phase 2(and sister friede is just a reskin of lady maria) The difficulty, even of Way of tom- COUGH COUGH waterfowl dance, is up there in terms of rigging against the player, but not as blatantly egregious if you use all the tools the game gives you, or with sick status builds. TL;DR Saito is tough even with all the tools, when not overlevelled to a hells, as he doesnt care what rules are. Melania is ONLY tough because player control and options were purposely toned WAY down compared to BB, Ds3, and Sekiro as a way to artifically bloat the games purported “hardcore” difficulty status. Tanimura is bad at designing or balancing base combat mechanics

I had not much problems vs him on First difficulty and 2nd, but now on the third go (Dream of the demon) this guy makes you hate your life :)) his slash and pierce attacks are pretty much instant cast and do too much dmg. On top of him dodging too quick and frequent.

This boss is just pure bs, you can’t even try high skill strats like parrying because he has a move that specifically punishes parries. A boat load of 2 or 3 frame attacks that destroy you, I platted sekiro and beat it with chip damage on without kuros charm and I’d rather do that whole game like that again over fighting this boss. Human bosses in this game are so bullshit, their attacks are so much quicker than you, they can do charge attacks in a blink, ther attack can stagger you for longer than usual, they have 100x your health, they can interrupt you and sometimes GRAB you while you hitting them. It's so unfair, i beat most yoki boses in my first two tries, but some human bosses are just relentless and could take out your health bar so quickly

But with human bosses nope, the further you progress they have huge ki bars, poise through attacks and one hit you with insane attacks. At least the yokai play by the rules.

I stumbled across this fight one day and it ruined my day. I'm quite serious. The game breaks its own rules just to wreck you. Thats poor game design; its not funny, clever or 'hard.' Its just BS. And from the looks of my furious googling for a few days afterwards, the community agrees with me. I was worried that I was bad at the game or that I was somehow missing something but yeh, I was right; it is BS. There's a difference between difficulty and 'rigged against you,' This fight is literally, the game cheating. Of course people do finally overcome it but its still textbook BS and I despise it more than I could ever express. Overcoming something that isn't fair shouldn't stand as proof of skill, but should be evidence of what ought not have happened in the first place! If not that, then what? This fight just feels sadistic on the devs part. I have not and may never beat this fight and even if I did beat it, I'd never go back. I nearly quit the game for life because of this...

There is a rhythm to Saito Toshimitsu, believe it or not. I personally find the level of interactivity to not be as meaningful as it is with Yokai enemies. I feel this way for most human opponents in the game as well. As frustrating as he is, I wouldn't say he's cheating per se. I do think he's a bit overtuned but I imagine it's quite difficult to make the ideal human boss based off the same engine from Nioh 1. Most humans were and still are entirely susceptible to Zero Ki pressure; Saito T is no exception. I really enjoy his moveset but I wish that we could equally interact with one another. I think many Yokai bosses do a great job of this. Perhaps, the overall distaste for Saito T will help TN make more interesting encounters in future games.

Players being mad doesn't necessarily mean that a boss is bad. Sometimes, players are just bad. There are a lot of "Oh I could have just done this" that bosses work around that players don't figure out. The most obvious one for Saito being Purity to prevent buffs or Corruption to match his aggression. The only thing you could say about him is that he might have been put too early in the game, as players want more skills/soul core variety to fight against what he does, which would make sense since he was added with Online Missions.

For example the final boss of the first DLC as well as the fish lady with a giant glave who probably killed me the most. While most human bosses boil downs to get them into the guard stance, deal with their hyper armor counter rinse and repeat. It's not a pleasant experience for new players who got one shot by seemingly normal attacks that suddenly has hyper armor.

@@Orphan_of_Kos_or_some_say_Kosm He's absolutely hypertuned for the level he's available at, it's pretty obvious he's designed to be fought after you've beaten the game at least once and not when he's actually available. The sheer amount of crap he throws at you even dwarfs Otakemaru though, a kind of "everything and the kitchen sink" kind of level design, where he does everything a player does but better, faster, and harder, so they could have dialed that back a bit. Otherwise, he's just another element of Nioh 2's game design which is not actually learning how to beat a boss better but getting stronger and crushing it with pure numbers/cheese. Once you've actually beaten the game, or even just get to late game, you've got so many options he becomes far more reasonable.

Ngl, he trashed me first few times I fought him. Then I cheesed the hell out of him. Sloth, lightning and caltrops to slow him down, scampuss to keep that ki in check. Then beat his ass silly with splitstaff. The best combo for confusion imo is purity and lightning. Once he's purified he can't buff himself. this boss is so unfair, faster than normal weapons while using heavy weapon, has hyper armor, the game reads your inputs ( the game does it all the time and just for that, its a bad designed game ). He has toughness of heavy armor, been able to recover from hits and dodge out from combos and yet moves fast as if he has light armor. And on top, when he gets down to 40%, he starts buffing with damage nullifying charm, which makes hit and run tactics useless. Terrible design.

"It's a bad designed game" Lmao, can't handle a boss being a boss, of course they're gonna have special things that you can't do, that's every boss in every video game ever. And even then, ki pulse cancel is a thing. I'd love to have Ashiya Doman's multishots for my onmyo spells, but then he would just be a glorified NPC. Also he only has 60 toughness believe it or not, it's just that he has around 2.5k ki, which is similar to Nobunaga anyway. If you use hit and run tactics, you don't understand how to play the game anyway.

I certainly notice the input reading. But I love how this game presents a never ending challenge and it’s not like you lack enough offensive tools to surpass the boss cheese with your own. I prefer this kind of difficulty to the input lag type of From games’ difficulty.

this boss is the worst thing i have ever encountered, the worst designed, insane, stupid levels of defense, its just fucking terrible, i don't care if you think I just need to get good, this is nto well designed if you need to do an insane amount of bullshit in order to do a mid-game optional boss

It's not exactly when you are out of ki, but when you get out of ki by being hit, that's "winded".

This boss is 1000% unbalanced. I only had 3 elixiers. You can´t win normaly against him... without cheating stuff at the same level. Also what you did was very cheap, but even if that fail (not on the edges on the map, he will finish you fast). I used the handpipe at the begin and lowered the HP. Before i used ki item and poisen on my dual blades (ki build and skill + low amor) and i had 2 guardian spirit. It goes very fast then. But if somtehing fail, i was nearly instant dead. So i have to go in and out to buy new ammunition. But after that i tried also on the egdes and that he goes out of stamina. He only need to hit me a very little and i´m dead. So really a bad job from the developer. And also shame that the o+A move not work everytime on my controller. Can´t say whay. Inputs in Nioh 2 sometimes not on point.

ye usually Nioh balances bosses like this well by giving them low hp or low ki or something. This guy seemingly has no weaknesses, it just feels like being an underleveled rpg character pvping against a maxed level character with the most optimized build which isn't that fun so you have to resort to cheesing.

He was added with the DLCs and his stats are definitely end game tier. It's like trying to beat Otakemaru half way into the game, good luck with that. I just came back somewhat later when our stats were comparable and then he was just like any other boss.
