I have a Frankenstein above ground with a new vinyl liner. I will only use a vinyl brush. The idea of anything harder in the pool scares me. I've jury rigged just about everything for the pool and it works fine. Loved your video on shock, "I'll NEVER use shock again!" Keep up the good work. Side note "Wish I had a job like yours!" Welding sucks.

Isn’t a combo brush too abrasive for plaster pools? Will it slowly damage the plaster? I feel like the nylon is just effective?
@PoolSchooler11 ай бұрын
If it's old plaster I'd most certainly use a nylon bristle brush but if the plaster is in good condition the combo brush is fine. BUT I'd never use an all metal bristle brush.

Dang I’m glad I’m watching a bunch of your videos today. We had an algae issue we were fighting so we were using a metal brush. I’ll get the combo one instead! Thanks for the the help you give us pool owners! I think I will be joining your membership program!

Love your videos, they've been very helpful and I think I'm finally getting a handle on why I've had problems keeping my chemicals balanced (main problems have been not enough 3" tablets + not removing phosphates). That said, I got a Wall Whale "whale tail" brush earlier this year, and it *has* made brushing a *lot* easier for me, especially in terms of getting algae off the walls (which hopefully shouldn't be such an ongoing issue going forward anyway).. but YMMV. I also got a Blue Torrent 360-degree brush that's made dealing with the corners around steps a lot easier (I have a couple of corner "seats" in the deep end of my pool that stick out from the corners, and it's been a bear trying to clean under those with regular brushes, but the 360 degree brush works really well there. I could get the job done with a regular-shaped brush like you use, but these have made my life easier.

keep the videos coming!!! did not come here for production value or special effects I can go to the movies for that. Your videos are informative and visually show what is happening and that's what I'm looking for to learn how to maintain my pool.

I thought the combo was abrasive to the gunite. Also, when should I have my pool re-gunited? Just subscribed 🙂🙂🙂🙂
@PoolSchooler4 жыл бұрын
First of all gunnite (or shotcrete) is the concrete that goes under the final surface (like plaster or pebble tech). So the combo brush should be fine. Unless the manufacture recommends only using a nylon bristle brush then you should do so.
@pgnandt3 жыл бұрын
4:40. Say metal (stainless) is bad after saying you use a combo.......with metal bristles. Long time ago but 25 years in the business. I would always carry a 24" nylon, 18" nylon and a 4" stainless on my cart. New pool or old pool dictates the brush. Brushing new plaster, gona use that combo? You forgot to show use how to use a brush.
@PoolSchooler3 жыл бұрын
No sir what I said was a full metal brush is not a good brush to use because it’s too abrasive a combo brush combines nylon and metal and it’s less abrasive but I find it holds up better than the nylon bristles and is a little bit more thorough without being overly abrasive like the full stainless metal bristle one.
@PoolSchooler3 жыл бұрын
And regarding me not showing how to use the brush… The videos title says pool brushes not how to brush a pool. But thanks for the thought I will definitely do one on how to brush the pool.
@pgnandt3 жыл бұрын
@@PoolSchooler I always used a wheeled cart so could carry a few brushes. Real big nylon and an 18" nylon and the 4" stainless. Had a 18" stainless in the truck but rarely used it. I have used a combo but found it to drag too much for the benefit. You know how it is. If it doesn't brush off. Chemicals. Only used the 4" stainless on black algae and the occasional rust spot like little Johnny getting a BB gun for Christmas and mag dumping into the pool leaving about 500 rust spots. Happened a few times. Sometimes you have to cut.

I really like the informative value your videos provide and you're a likeable and nice guy, but watching them is a bit of a pain. Here are a few things you might want to consider to increase the production value of your videos: get a cheap lavalier mic with a dead cat (the little furry thing) to avoid wind noises and to make your voice audible and kill the ambient noise a bit (pool pumps etc.). Decent ones are available on Amazon for $15-20 and you can plug it straight into your phone or an audio recorder. I would get rid of the sound effects. They don't add to the video and simply annoy people. Also, try to avoid shaking your phone so much by using a tripod that stands on the floor (not the table. I saw you used a gorilla pod/flexible mini tripod on a table but kept slamming your arms on the table). This frees up your other hand and you can better demonstrate the things you're doing. A head-mounted GoPro might be worth looking into as well. Hope this isn't too overbearing but as a commercial videographer myself I thought these tips might help improve your future videos a bit. One last thing: lose the shades when you're talking to the viewer. It's proven to increase likeability and viewer engagement in terms of subscriptions and likes when the viewer is able to see your eyes. Anyway, thank you for putting out these videos! I learned a lot given that I just bought my first house that came with a pool and I had no idea how to maintain a pool.

These are great suggestions but do not what you said about the shades, look at Casey Neistat, he always wears shades and he has millions of followers.

As usual, good content. But I'm getting so tired of the full-length selfie vids. My new rule is if I have to sit through more than 30 seconds of jiggling full-face shots I'm outta there.

ChuckD59 sorry for the less than professional quality videos. Unfortunately these videos are made when I’m out in the field doing by clients pools and it’s just not time effective to set up “nice” shots for the videos. I’m so sorry. Doin the best I can.

@@PoolSchooler This is YT, not looking for professional quality (and not singling you out, I'm subscribed with alerts set). A simple tripod costs about US$20. But I also come away with the sense that it's really self-indulgent to post a 10+ minute of just your face speaking as you hand hold a camera pointed at yourself. I'm just trying to offer constructive criticism, and I don't think it's just me who feels this way. Thank you (seriously) for taking the time to do this.
