Most of Pool School other videos are good, but I disagree this video. Firstly, the drain on the bottom of the pool has no gravity effect that Pool School described because the water in the pipe leading to the two-hole skimmer is naturally equalized. Secondly, the diverter will work as designed and will draw water from the bottom drain if the water level falls below the skimmer. This was proven in my pool when my automatic water was stuck in the closed position and the water level dropped below the skimmer when I was on vacation. If a divertor, pump motor, filter, or any other device fails because of improper maintenance, then that is the fault of the owner. Thirdly, the pool drain has to be working and should not be turned off because we want water circulation from the bottom of the pool too. Please do a test of the diverter for yourself and you will see that a divertor actually will work. Please do not discard the divertor!!!!

What is the second hole in the skimmer for? The hole closest to the pool of mine seems to be a dead end and stop after 2 inches. There's a little circle that swings and closes above it. Not sure why this was installed?
@PoolSchooler
@PoolSchooler Күн бұрын
Typically one hole is the suction from the pump, the other goes to the floor drain (and then you use a diverter to adjust how much of the suction from "diverts" to the floor drain. (watch this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4W4pGxmdpqojNEsi=7hy1Ynwf06BqMFEA). Occasionally I've come across a situation like you describe where the second hole goes nowhere and bottoms out two inches into it. Not sure why the builder did it that way but I wouldn't worry about it.

Will brushing your plaster pool with a wire brush increase the hardness in the water? My hardness went way high in a week and the only thing I did was try to wire brush the sides, so I'm thinking that is what did it.

I wouldn't ever brush a plaster pool with a metal wire brush. It will damage the plaster. As far as it increasing the hardness in the water I'm not sure.

Redirect your return ports downward. Sounds like the surface current created by them is moving it to a specific area. Oh, sometime the skimmer suction can cause it to hang up there as well. Hard to help that one.

Ive had my pool for 10 years. I use cotton balls in my filter that I wash at the end of the season. I spen $12/yr on keeping my crystal clear the entire season. If I am away for 3 weeks and dont touch the pool, I come home to a crystal clear pool. I the beginning when I open pool, I put in 1/4 cup of Copper Sulfate and turn on filter and run for 4 hrs a day. I add nothing else. The water is perfectly clear. About 1/2 way thru the season, I add1/4 cup sulfate and thats all I ever add to my pool. No Chemicals, no chlorine. My neighbor has the identical pool as me. When they go on vacation, they need to have someone come and do tests and chemicals or he comes home to a green pool. My Friend and I have a home in Vegas that has an in ground. We put in the copper sufate in the skimmer filter and whenever we go out there, usually1 time every 6 weeks, the pool is always clear. Just keep solar cover on to keep debris from bottom.

You said algaecide kills algae, my understanding is it prevents algae from growing which is why they say to put it at the end?
@PoolSchooler
@PoolSchooler 7 күн бұрын
Typically, if there’s algae growing in a pool, there’s phosphates in it. So you can be killing the algae but if there’s still phosphates in it, it’s just gonna continue to come back. So I don’t think it’s a do after/ at the end kind of thing it’s due during, and then apply some after as well because when algae dies it releases, you guessed it, phosphates.

Is this brush good for algae stains? I have another question is a stainless steel brush going to scratch the bottom of a concrete pool? thank you for your great product review I will look into purchasing one on Amazon.
@PoolSchooler
@PoolSchooler 8 күн бұрын
@@kingofqueens777 answer to your first question, you need to kill the source of the algae, which is probably phosphates get some PR 10,000 phosphate remover and that will take away the food source for algae. Sometimes I sprinkle some tricolor granules over the stain. Let it settle down on top of it way a couple hours and then brush it off. If you’re concerned about Scratching the bottom of the pool, I probably go with a nylon bristle brush. Typically a combo nylon/metal bristle brush should be OK on a concrete, plaster, or pebble tech pool, but I would never use a 100% steel bristle brush ever.

I have a dedicated line for my pool vacuum. However, the skimmer line is shared with what I believe the bottom pool intake or drain, which makes me nervous, because I don't want to open it so the inlet or bottom drain starts draining the pool - so water gets under and lifts my pool.
@PoolSchooler
@PoolSchooler 12 күн бұрын
@@RavensRule09 it is very typical for the skimmer to share suction with the floor drain. As long as you’re not backwashing your pool, any of the water is fucked the skimmer or the floor drain should go through the filter and then go back to the pool so it should be fine.

But couldn't they be used (with the right hose that can withstand) with liquid chlorine? You could have your automated system like that instead of a swg? What are your thoughts?
