Straight Cueing Practice
In this video we look at straight cueing. We look at several different practice routines that enable you to examine how straight you are delivering the cue, and exercises that will reinforce the action by building muscle memory. The shots are carried out on a 7ft UK 8 ball table but most of the same principles apply to both american pool and snooker.

If you're having trouble with the beer bottle drill, start with a Lucozade bottle, the opening is a little bigger

I've always been a good long Potter on straight shots but lately I've been cutting across the white and missing them more often that not. Don't know the reason for this. Is it pressure or nerves or is there something I can do to correct it. I've started getting up on the shot straight away too which doesn't help and I've noticed my heads moving a lot while taking the shot but them things have only started happening recently

It's hard to say why it's happened but it sounds as though you already know what you are doing wrong. Standing up on the shot is almost certainly a big factor. Practice the routine in this video where you simply play the white down the table and try to get it to come back straight to your cue tip. That drill makes you stay down on the shot and wait for the ball to come back. It also requires a fairly soft shot so you keep things nice and slow and smooth. Just do this over and over and it will help improve your muscle memory and hopefully staying down on the shot will become second nature.

normally unwanted side can be down to not lining up on the pot straight. I got some coaching recently and when i was going into the shot my cue was off straight by about an inch to the right at the back end. You subconsciously know you're off and thats why you put side on, to adjust
