The new skimmer comes with a pressure reducer that you install on the inlet you put the plug. you also need to upgrade that pump.

🤘🏼👍🏼 was gonna make a video cause I couldn't find one and found this one Did the exact same thing but I upgraded to sand filter pump also... WARNING if pump is left unattended for a period of time and you have trees over head keep an eye on the skimmer basket caught mine right on time leafs clogged the line and it pinched shut do to all that suction from 1 line and blocking the other whole like she did here didn't help In my favor but it was my fault with bigger pump and doing this technique.. all I actually needed to do was release the air stuck in the lines helped me out and I have both outlet wholes open now

I have the upgraded 2500gph sand filter, on a 16x10. Still doesn't have the strength to run the skimmer and an open intake. Ends up blowing water OUT of the skimmer instead of in.. I'm sure it's some instance of the venturi effect, at the T fitting, due to the extra resistance of adding a bottle neck fitting to another section of hose inside the pool for attaching to the skimmer. Sadly that allows contamination in the water column to continue floating around until the skimmer is disconnected. Not a fix at all, a workaround to use a skimmer temporarily so you don't have to net the top of the water. Tldr: skimmers won't work on above ground pools effectively. Buy a net and manually clean the surface water, allow your pump and filter to clean the water column

​​@@lifewithsylvia4411Problem is, you have less water being fed into the filter now. All that pool water is flowing through one outlet and one tube down into the pump/filter. It makes it less inefficient in my opinion.

That's definitely frustrating! Did you try maybe a zip tie around the intake hose to really hold it in place tight?

I have the same problem just bouht a skimmer but is not sucking enaght.... I have to holes one who is sucking and one pumping and my pum is with the filter A...the pool is 366×1 what can i do

Same here! I think my pump doesn’t have enough pull or something. But I have a good flow on the water going back into the pool so I’m not sure what the deal is.

How are you not getting air going back to your pump? I have a sand filter and as soon as i block that port, sure the skimmer sucks like crazy but then i get air in my hose that goes back to my pump. That doesn't work for me😢

I swapped the hoses around on mine and hooked the skimmer up to the big line. Now it has plenty of suction power

Swapping the hoses worked for me also. 2 years the skimmer didn't work. It seems all the videos don't specify which hose goes where if you only have 2 intakes. Works now though. Thank you so much!!!!@

What line did you hook skimmer to? I tried hooking it up to a outlet, plugged up the other one like in video didn't work. My pump wasn't getting enough water

Totally late reply lol, but I can here for the video and saw your reply. Did you ever get it to work?! We literally changed our filter yesterday, so I know it's not a filter problem. It does suck in whatever comes close enough, but we also only have the pump that came with the pool

I tried this but when I did no water will go through the skimmer to the pump! There's water in the hose but for some reason it's not getting to the pump. The hose is clear. I can't see any blockage.

Have you bypassed the filter then? One side going to the skimmer and the other plugged?

The skimmer water goes to the same place. T connection in to one tube.

@@jmscott31 I wound up replacing my pump. That solved the problem. The pump that came with the Intel wasn't powerful enough. It was about $70 on Amazon.

According to all I've read on skimmers you need at least a 2100 GPH pump to handle the skimmer properly

​​​​@@brianjohnson7613Yup, I have same pump and skimmer, I also have the 2nd inlet blocked too. You shouldn't really have to block the 2nd inlet just to have enough suction for the skimmer to work. These surface skimmers are really poorly designed and don't work that well. Intex pumps are also hot garbage. Your only other options are either to cut your pool liner and install one of those Hayward skimmers that sit on the outside of the pool, or upgrade to a better pump from a different company that's known for making quality pumps.
