I played Efren in 2017; the game was the best three out of five in nine ball. Of course he beat me and I enjoyed it. - - - If you are ever in the Huntsville Alabama area just stop by Steve's Cue and Grill - - - as you walk in you will see a picture of Efren and I on the left just outside the entrance of my cue repair shop - - - I'm there every week, if I'm not in my shop just walk up to the bar and look to your right - - - I am normally setting at the first table having coffee or unsweetened tea if I am not teaching someone how to shoot pool - - - if you shoot pool, since I own all the Diamond pool tables in the bar, the table time will be on me and I will let you break!

I grew up in Huntsville, used to play a lot at Johnny Tona's pool hall in high school in the early 90s. No idea if it's still around but I have a lot of great memories from there.

Efren, learning about you has caused me to fall in love with watching pool. Over 2 years of watching every video of you that I could find and now I'm watching all the tournaments and paying for pay-per-view all thanks to watching you play. It truly amazes me that just a few months from turning 70, you are still playing and dangerous on pool table. Our birthdays are a mere 10 days apart. I am 10 days older than you. You are walking around pool tables and playing strong and I am bedridden. It makes me proud to see someone my age that is still playing extremely well and teaching youngsters and happy to share his lifetime of knowledge.

Efren's billiards is full of imagination, respect and the unexpected, making it a joy to watch. Watching him, you can see that it requires not only strength, but also a wealth of experience and incredible mathematical ability. But in reality, even the simplest plays seem to require a lot of calculations. It's instructive. It's hard to imagine someone with his skillset being able to replace him. But he is one of the players who most strongly feels and practices that the most important thing is to enjoy playing billiards yourself. I want to be like that too.

Grandmaster Efren. I don't know what else to call you since there is no such title for a great pool player like there is in chess. I have watched you over the years, and re-watched many videos over and over and over. Your humility, excellence, coolness under pressure, willingness to take a tough shot and succeed, are an inspiration to anyone in any sport in the world, not just pool. I'm not Filipino, but I am proud of you like you were from my country. May God continue to bless you as you continue to inspire young people to focus on the fundamentals including caroms, the diamond systems, the other variables in the game like cloth and pocket size and shape, and the peculiarity of the rails on the table. You make it look easy. Thank you for all that you have allowed us to witness in your games.

There are so many aspects of the Magician's game to appreciate, but mine may surprise many of you. As tempted and worthy as his cue ball control is to top his attributes involving all games of billiards, my favorite quality he possesses is his respectful, lighthearted, and humble attitude before, during, and after matches. A gentleman and true master of the game of all time.

My favorite Efren characteristic is the way he moves around the pool table. His body seems to account for breadth, width, height and strength of the table. It's as if he'd like to walk straight to the cue ball (or wherever he wants to take the next shot from), but the table is in the way so he kind of adjusts his body to walk around it.

Yulo was a by product of the people around him, who supported him from the very beginning, and yet, he’s an ungrateful person and no sign of humility towards his family. If you have seen the way Manny and Efren treat their family, in spite their family challenges, you would see their humility even though they’ve achieved greatness. Nothing beats a humble champion!

Mr Reyes is a very humble man. You can tell because he often uses the word luck. I played a LOT of pool and practiced 8 hours a day for hours years (It was awesome because I managed a billiards store and could get in about 4 hours of practice a and then go home and play at least that on my table at home) anyway I had so many people say "You're so lucky" and it would drive me nuts because how can you be lucky if you call your shot? Is it a shot I could make 10 out of 10? Of course not but when you practice certain banks, kick outs, and every semi impossible shots for week's if not month's you can't call that luck. Mr Reyes when it came to pool you were not lucky you were that great.. Thank you for all I've learned watching you and the endless hours of pure entertainment. 🎉❤

I was happy to be alive and interesting in pool while Efren Reyes was doing his thing. Some of the most amazing shots I ever saw in a pool game, were happily captured on video. I am not much into most sports. But pool is different, because I played a lot of it, and the strategies are interesting. The game is almost mathematical in a way.

When I was a kid on at least 2 occasions I saw Willie Mosconi play exhibition matches at Jackie Cannons pool hall on Snyder Ave in Brooklyn , I was totally impressed , but got to say , I think Efren is the GOAT and I also have seen almost all the great players( male and female ) live.

Mosconi may be the best who ever was, but Reyes may have eclipsed him. Of course no one will ever beat Mosconis 500+ run in straight pool without missing once ( he just stopped shooting.) Because almost no one plays straights anymore far as I know. So called Minnesota Fats (Wanderone) was an interesting story in itself, because he falsely claimed HE was the Minnesota Fat from the book and movie the Hustler. Walter Tevis (also now famous for Queen's Gambit) probably got tired of telling the truth, that Wanderone stole the name. Anyway, "Fats" was almost certainly not a world class player, and Mosconi crushed him on Wide World of Sports...twice I think.

I was interested in the fact that you played 3 Cushion billiards and Carom Billiards. I am a long-time snooker player, and while I lived in the US I played only 8-Ball, 9-Ball, and One-Pocket. I have always been a respectable player and started playing snooker for money when I was 8 Yrs. Old. I have always tried to convey to people that are trying to get better that there is no better game to learn to control the Cue-Ball than 3-Cushion (pocketless table) billiards. If you have a solid snooker-type stance and stroke and have invested time into getting even marginally good at 3-Cushion billiards then there are not many people, I don't care who you are, that will beat you in a race. Most people these days who are of the instant gratification ilk or the kind of player who wants the audience to go ooooh, ahhhh, these kind of players will not invest the time to learn and understand 3-Cushion so I was extremely pleased to know that you were from that lineage.
