Number 19 is NOT a foul. Dr. Dave went over this in a video. Intentionally scooping under the cue ball to make a jump is a foul. Unintentionally jumping a cue ball because of miscue is not a foul. It has to do with the intent. Of course a professional pool player did NOT intend to scoop under the ball to make it jump. Marcel got this call wrong.

#2 Strickland was clearly at fault and Shaw was correct. You can even tell by Earl's reaction when he realized he called the 2 by mistake and hit his cue on the ground. I don't agree with the referee's decision to go ahead and let Earl play. I remember when this happened. This was what made me dislike Earl as a player. He knew he made a mistake, but made a big fuss and was rewarded. A true gentleman would have admitted his mistake and not thrown a fit.
@TodaysTomSawy3rАй бұрын
Earl should have copped to misspeaking but the call was correct. Both the 10 and 2 are colored blue, so it was an honest misspeaking but not a mistake, he made the shot he intended to make. It was obvious by the way he nodded at the ball as well as the layout itself. Seems to me the gentlemanly thing to do there was for Shaw to let the verbal slip slide, especially after the refs call. I think I'm gonna call him Jason "Neanderthal" Shaw now after he got up with his little club and started mugging on a 60 year old man like that and throwing balls around. What a bum.
@MrCueBallАй бұрын
Thanks for your opinion and I do not try to judge this situation because I was not there and can’t decide which player was right based on video. However maybe Earl said something like „blue” what sounds similar like „two” and this caused Shaw’s reaction…. I don’t know.
@TodaysTomSawy3rАй бұрын
@@MrCueBall no, he clearly misspoke because the balls were the same color. Ref did a good job administering the call after seeing the replay. Understandably frustrating for both guys but if Shaw's intent was to get in a p*ssing contest over etiquette, I think he ended up losing that as well.
@udtojanpestillos2094Ай бұрын
@@TodaysTomSawy3r It doesn't matter whether he made a misspoke or not. If you call the 2, you also have to pot the 2. No matter how old you are. Otherwise I can also say next game, sorry I misspoke, I meant the other ball. Shaw was absolutely correct and I can fully understand his reaction as it was Earl's second offence of the game. Same requires to bank shots and combinations. Even a combo or a bank shot is obvious, the right ball has to be called. Thats the rules, no matter what age or your name is.
@TodaysTomSawy3rАй бұрын
@@udtojanpestillos2094 no one is questioning the rules. Rules say the refs call is final. Had the situation been in question at all and he said the wrong ball, they wouldn't have given it to him. I understand the complaint. Like if the 2 was right there next to it or near the pocket. But it was so painfully obvious that he just blurted out the wrong number word because the balls are instinctively very similar. He even nods at the 10, as I said before. Points off for claiming he never said 2 ball but again, it was obvious. A gentleman would have let it go as I am now. Good day to you all ✌️🇺🇲

@trailerwookieАй бұрын
Sometimes in casual pool, a player will take the cue ball or another ball out of the pocket to use it to measure to see if a ball will squeeze in or get by a tight space. This is an illegal action. In this case, it looked like Karl was measuring using the cue ball, but he was actually trying to find the best place to put the cue ball in that tight space. Once it was explained to him, the referee changed his mind and reversed the foul.

The rule might be silly, but when you start a game you must know the rules and abide to them. One weird scenario that could justify the rule is someone using a picked up ball to roll it on to the cueball to prevent a scratch. I know it sounds a bit convoluted, but there could be times it'd be hard to judge if it was intentional or not. I think it's a sad day for her, but it still is a rule she should know, pick up the balls when the egg has stopped.
