I appreciate the lack of a jumpscare or any kind of entity in the danger zone. that would have been the obvious thing to do, and not having one feels perhaps even more unnerving

I think at the very most there should be distant sounds, or even just a glance of something, every now and then. Just something to play with your mind a little, but something that never materializes. I do agree, though, that having a monster running around cheapens the experience.

I absolutely loved this video. The Poolrooms are definitely my favorite part of the Backrooms as a whole, and I really like seeing people give it attention. I want to provide some fair criticism on something, that being audio. I feel like the intensity and envelopment is slightly lost in this video because the sounds don't match. We don't hear our protagonist splashing through the water, their footsteps echoing throughout the infinite 'empty' hallways and their labored breathing as they climb a ladder, or crawl through a tight squeeze. I think this could easily be top tier content with some audio enhancements. With all that in mind I don't mean it in any offense. These video could be extremely laboring to make, and audio work is especially so.

@@MattStudiosAnimations I might consider visiting a public pool or something just to get an idea of the *sound.* There's a very recognizable sound of a pool, especially an empty one; a sort of white noise and reverberation of every splash of the water. Don't underestimate music, of course, as it can really take the viewer in whatever direction you'd like.

I half agree. I do think there shoud be monsters, otherwise it'd lose the fear factor once you found out the truth that nothing happens. However, the enemies should be a rare occurrence so that only a few lucky (unlucky?) Individuals should encounter. That way, you'd leave people constantly on the edge while being there, even if they'd spend quite some time without anything happen, because they'd know that something bad CAN happen, they just don't know when, where and what.

Literally, what makes this so scary for me personally is the endless amount of tiles. I appreciate them as a texture, but with too many it becomes anxiety inducing. I remember visiting a few locations as a child like public pools and other spots that had the same texture as this, and one time there was this mirror on the wall and there were three of them in one square room, and I remember looking through one that created the illusion that the room had an infinite amount of copies. I saw this through the mirror, does anyone else have similar experiences? I know that other people have. They had to!

Thank you for making a back rooms video that does not include an entity. If you read the descriptions of these levels, they are millions of square miles in area each, and encountering anyone is extremely unlikely - with most wanderers dying from starvation and dehydration without meeting any other creature, not from an eviscerating attack from a skin stealer, a smiler, or God only knows what. But a lot of content creators feel that going through all the work to render convincing 3D models and scenes of the back rooms is wasted without some sort of spine tingling soul thirsty monster giving chase. Thank you for resisting that impulse.

I had the same thought: the water was too still, even with him wading through it. A few waves emanating from the main character as he moves through the pool would add a lot of realism, although I agree that they must be hell to animate. Also, seeing his own hands or legs sometimes would be a nice touch to remind us that this is an actual person exploring, not just some camera moving on its own. Still, great animations!

I've been watching these quiet poolroom videos for a while now but I think I'm watching these for the wrong reason. Everyone seems to be terrified by these. It's the opposite for me. Whenever I see these they make me feel very nostalgic. They are supposed to of been recorded in the early 90s. Everything in these just makes me remember that time. The VHS video quality, the old camcorder zoom sound and the surroundings just feeling like it were 1990 or 91. I picture this as an indoor water park that will be full of happy families the next day and you're just walking through doing a check to make sure everything is maintained. These just make me happy. I've once dreamt an aquarium hallway with a river-like path, and somehow is inside a very large dark building. The ambiance colors are mostly black-grey, haven't seen the ceiling but I do "feel" it's a building, like a grocery store. Whitish green, red, & yellow fluorescent lights are attached to some aquariums. There are fishes inside those, mostly goldfish with common colors. The river path is pretty deep as the ground cannot be seen. It's looks black due to the lack of sky light. There are some lighted food stalls along those aquarium walls. "Ministop", "Dunkin Donut", "7-eleven" are some stalls I remember.

The Backrooms imitate reality, but get it wrong often, and the same happened with this small detail; This is obviously supposed to be a ladder, but it’s made out of the same material as the walls, and it also seems to have formed into the ledge, which probably makes climbing it a challenge. The water smelled of flowers, petals were floating at the surface, and the tiles formed beautiful mosaics. In a sense it was more of like spa rooms than pool rooms, now that I think about it.

I might be a bit strange, but I find the poolrooms to be the most relaxing to me. I could easily see myself just chillin and falling asleep there.

no it's not strange... relaxing ambience is what the poolrooms and many other liminal spaces were before people thought they need to put in a lot of ridiculous entities and jumpscares because of the "backrooms"

Very good! please make more of this level and others as well. It was slightly too dark in the 2nd half, but very good environment. Imagine having monsters lurking under the water. Cheers!

This is excellent. I love the abstract environments of the Backrooms, and you really captured that essence here perfectly. I also love that there weren't any monsters/entities in this video. Honestly, all the monsters I've ever seen made for the Backrooms are all terribly designed and totally ruin any atmosphere that the Backrooms has.

The poolrooms remind me so much of old Counter-Strike pool maps lol they are so ethereal and dreamy and chill, yet out-of-place. Like, a pool the size and shape of a shopping mall? Who built that?! Regardless, it just makes me want to swim around them aimlessly, enjoying the last time I have.

The most promising research we've done so far is analysis of the water acquired from some of the pool rooms. Two hydrogen, one oxygen. Completely. Deionized. It won't kill you, but it isn't healthy to drink long-term. Normally used in manufacturing, it's never a question of "if" the system piping it is going to fail, but "when". The unusual property of backrooms deionized water, though, is that it never gets ionized. It stays deionized, and continues to act that way, taking ions from material around it, breaking it down. ... Oh. Yes. That technically would be a violation of the conservation of energy. We have several ways of exploiting that we are working on right now.

Honestly what really makes me think of is that these pool rooms is where a society has reached to become a Utopia... a perfect world you could say and then something tragic happened and so it became forgotten. I get the same vibes when I see pictures of 1940s-1980s swimming pools, malls, fun centers, hang out spots, etc being compared before and after. Like a Utopia of some sorts, that will never be relived again....

The amount of detail in the modeling and rendering is 10/10. The audio is 8/10. I agree with another commenter that this needs more realistic splashing, footsteps, sloshy foot steps after exiting water, breathing, etc. The water is rendered very well, wave action is very convincing, 9.5/10; only missing the specular highlights both below water and on surrounding surfaces. If you had the specular highlights this would look almost indistinguishable from "reality". The refraction in the water is nearly perfect though!

You know.... The old public swimming pool in our town (I'll look to see if I can find photos.) First time I went, my daughter was maybe one. The place was practically empty. Just a couple people pool walking or doing laps. The locker rooms were down these VERY narrow steps, where the tile was the walls, floors, and ceiling. Very narrow and slippery. That's why I never went back. Those steps, especially carrying a child and large bags of towels, suits, diaper bag, etc... Scared the hell out of me. Gotta see if I can find you a photo.

I have just found this video for the first time. I would have comforting but also eerie dreams about pools exactly like this as a kid in the 90s and 2000s. The tile was sometimes more ornate, but otherwise this is basically a video of my childhood subterranean pool dreams. I’m shocked that someone else has experienced these visions and taken the time to visualize them.
