In this pool tutorial we look at how you can achieve the same position but via a different route, using different types of spin. By starting with the tangent line we can then consider how different types of spin like screw back, top spin and side spin will effect the path of the cue ball from there. There is no "right way" to play a shot and we can often get position in lots of different ways. Sometimes this is personal choice or preference but often the path of the cue ball might be blocked by your opponents balls so it is important to be able to explore other ways of achieving the same position.
The shots are carried out on a 7ft UK 8 ball table

Off topic to the actual video but I'm curious about what your thoughts are about the differences between American and English Pool? Do you think English Pool is better, or just different? I love the slower and methodical aspect of English Pool and the unforgiving rounded shoulder of the pockets. Did you ever consider going American table instead of english?

I think just different. I obviously prefer English Pool because that's what I play but I don't think anyone can say one is better than the other. Both games have their differences and things that are easier in one but more difficult in the other. I have huge respect for professionals in both and particularily those that play both as it's not as easy as people might think moving from one to the other. In terms of a table I wouldn't have room for an American table even if I wanted one and as I play English Pool in a league it makes sense to practice on the same table as I play on every week.

Hmm - the number of times I've seen amateur players play the ball above the line on to the bottom cush, then come up short, leaving a fine cut...there may be no "right way" to play a shot, but usually, the simplest is best.
