I think it is not Poonamalee By Pass Road, it is Poonamalee Outer Ring Road. The actual By Pass Road is the one, in which Vanagaram Toll is situated and over which Metro Railway Station is also being consturcted.

If you look at it just as Station, both serve the same purpose. A regular train shares its track and other infra with long distance passenger trains , suburban and freight trains. Metro has an exclusive infrastructure, and operate within the city and both are having rails so both words are right 🙂
