K wing, mites, brooding in jan tring to rid the disease so should be interesting to see the out come. Winter cluster avg 15,000 so if above that than what more can we ask for.

@brucesbees I had a couple hives that looked just like that last year. Medicated them with "super dfm" and fed the heck out of them. In a couple weeks there were no more piles of dead bees and their numbers started to grow again. I just tried it and luckily it worked for me. Your situation may be different but it might be worth a shot

I bought a box of that here at Hive Life. Hopefully it will help. I think it will. Thanks for the suggestion. Looks like we are in the same page.

If this is the hive that had the dead bees after the cold spell maybe they had too many bees in the hive overcrowded. All the bees couldn't stay in the cluster so you had a winter shed from chilled bees outside the cluster. So the bees remaining can't cover all the exposed brood and larvae. So I have seen my bees have diarrhea from consuming the larvae they eat and clean up to prioritize and manage the nest. I've noticed my bees will clean up the exposed brood when I make splits and two days later they have poop on the front entrance. I don't think they have to have Nozema to poop on the front of the hive if they eat a lot of Milky larvae. Good luck
@localdestinhoney2 жыл бұрын
Bees don't necessarily consume larvae to cannibalize for food. When they have a transition in the house they have to pick which larvae they want to survive and dispose of the younger underdeveloped they don't have enough bees to manage or food to feed them.
@localdestinhoney2 жыл бұрын
I would not treat for nozzema I'll be curious about the test results. From what I have heard nozzema treatments do more harm than good the bees need their own resistance not propped up for bigger failure later.

My opinion, when bee burn a lot of honey because of cold, they get full of ash, and when they see sunlight on sunny day, the wave lenght (far red, red, blue) can propably tell them when they are in the season(winter vs summer) , they are push to go out quick and poop clean for new room to eat honey and make heat again from fresh eated honey.
@shrevesoule35672 жыл бұрын
Were you seeing any pulled larva amongst the dead out front? My thought is the cold snap kill off is due to larger brood nest and not being able to keep them warm. If Nosema counts are low, then maybe viral component. Good luck!

I fed pollen supplements last year when there wasn't any fly days and got a surprising amount of poop. No microscope to diagnose with, but the poop went away with better weather. Although I am north of u a bit, it seems likely that the cold was worse down there this year. Less flying maybe compounds gut issues. See u n TN.
