The game with the tiles is Mahjong. When Rachel showed her hand, she was showing she could have won but allowed the mother to win instead. Thank you for the fun reaction!

I knew what the game was but did not catch that she allowed the mother to win. Thank you for pointing that out!

29:50 "I think it's their family ring." It's **not.** It's Nick's mother's ring; his grandmother didn't allow Nick's father to give Eleanor _the_ family ring. It signals that Eleanor, at least, has a changed opinion of Rachel. Out of story, it's actually Michelle Yeoh's ring; she rejected the one the film producers came up with! In the book, the family guards are Gurkhas. Which are not Sikhs?

"In the book, the family guards are Gurkhas. Which are not Sikhs?" -- Note, I'm not an expert, but my understanding is that the original Gurkhas were specifically Nepali and while many were Sikh, they were not considered to be a Sikh force because Nepal was separate from India under British rule. The modern Singapore police does have a Gurkha unit, but it's a remnant of British colonialism.

the table game (white/green blocks) they're playing at the end is called Mahjong, It's originally from China, but it's now played throughout East and Southeast Asia

A friend of mine in High School was a producer of this movie. Haven't seen her since High School, but when I realized I was impressed.

Yeah, the Kara is a a dead giveaway. The origin is interesting, it use to be a steel sheath that covered the entire wrist and forearm from sword attacks.

I remember when I first saw this movie, not in theater but at home. I was wishing I had seen it on the BIG screen, some of those places would have been so fun to see in greater detail. It was also the first time I had seen Awkwafina in anything, I thought she was cool. (She appears in a later MCU film, I won't say anything about it since you are a long way from that in you Marvel journey other than she is still fun).

People often forget that India is part of Asia. Just like a large portion of Russia is part of Asia. I always thought Sihk was just a separation of the caste system. I wasn't aware it had its own religious beliefs as well. I guess I need to do more research.

Yes. And even within Indian Hindus there are separations based on Language, region and caste. A Tamil Hindu and a Punjabi Hindu speak languages that are from different linguistic trees.

I think that it's less about people forgetting and more about coded language. When many American use the word "Asian," they're using as a stand-in for various racially-charged words that are out of fashion. The phrasing I like is that racist people think everyone else is also racist, but is just pretending not to be. So racists mimic the modern language, but still mean it as a comment on the person as lesser than. In this context, "Asians" are the ones who are different from "us" and the enemy while "Indians" are the ones who are lesser, but acceptable. It simply never occurs to these people that most modern people simply don't think about race the way they do. Of course, I live in a part of Canada with a large Punjabi and Chinese population, so my view of American racism may be a bit skewed.

😂I'm also Asian and one thing I have to correct on your opinion about Asians and money. Not all Asians spend less money. 1. Indians and Chinese are the ones known for frugality... it's on a different level😂. 2. You have Jews, who are thrifty. 3. The rest of Asia is okay. 4. The "legit" Crazy Rich Asians who mostly live in the Middle East that no one else in the world can compete. These people are treating money like nothing.😂

Americans definitely refer to South East Asians when we say "Asians". Basically everything East of Bangladesh. The subcontinent of India/Pakistan is it's own thing, and everything west/north is the Middle East in our minds.
