She's actually too young, it takes a little over a week (sometimes two)for them to obtain the capability to make those sounds of distress you hear the others make. It's so horrible. The *truly wild* macaques do not do this with the same frequency and extent that these semi-wild macaques do. They (the truly wild) also do not have the same high rate of psychological conditions and breaks. The extensive psychological (and to a lesser extent, physical) damage to these creatures through the cruelty and just plain stupidity of the cameramen, tourists and the worthless p.o.s. that prey on them would take *Generations* to fix/heal the damage probably close to 20. It's so horrifically sad.

I just think it’s hilarious how so many people are constantly judging and putting the blame on the VO’s for constantly recording them, however the only reason they continue to do it is indeed because of the viewers, you know the people who constantly watch their videos (faithfully). With that being said “if no one (like yourself) watched their content, then they would have no reason to make these kinds of videos”. Anyone that hasn't seen the baby that died, because the mom retained the placenta, and didn't lactate - about 5 months ago on Sochun channel.. Go back and watch, the videos of the baby, as she went through a couple days of sadly slowly dying of dehydration and starvation. The first things she was doing was sticking her tongue out, and sucking on her tongue. Sadly, this is a sign of dehydration.. this baby is getting frantic to eat and survive, and knows she needs to eat. This isn't going to turn out well, if she doesn't get back to mommy!

Ya know, normally, I can remain cool when it comes to nature and how cruel it can be sometimes. But this little one is getting to me. There's still so much life in her and she is so desperately hungry and trying to get nourishment, it makes me take a few hard swallows. When there's that much life and determination on an animals part to survive, I wouldn't be able to stop myself from finding a way to help. It's so sad.

Mad Hatter - I've been watching SP Blover's channel for many months now, but have rarely commented. However, like yourself, this little one is so captivating, because of her endearing nature, that I must commiserate. She's almost the ideal child. With her mother she wasn't overly fussy or whiny & demonstrated inquisitiveness, intelligence, & a lot of spunk. References that I've consulted state that infants, in circumstances such as Amara's, survive from 48-72 hours. Although the baby's mother got her back for several hours during the night, the infant vomited (doubtless from engorging herself with much needed nourishment). Should the mom get the baby back tonight, which is doubtful, her very passive & subservient nature may result in the same fate tomorrow; the future isn't too bright. One has to doff one's hat to SP Blover for his concern & efforts in trying to improve this monkey's situation. He's a bit of a pioneer in this new age of monkey videography. As such, he's going to make mistakes, but his concern for these creatures & his emotional nature have won him a well deserved following. It'd be great to witness some successful interference in this situation, but anyone who has viewed video of anybody interfering in a troop is aware that drastic consequences follow. There! I feel (a bit) better. Thx.

I just have to say this....I started following Sochhun around about the time little DeeDee was just about a week or two old, and lil Heather was being her inquisitive self and touched the hot mufflers on a motorbike. There didn't seem to be any other videographers around at that time, or if they were around they didn't post their videos back then. So in my opinion Sochhun is the pioneer in this realm of videography, in Cambodia that is, I believe Arroz Marisco has been doing this work for a few years in China. Anyway I trust Sochhuns opinion and I do believe he knows what the hell he is doing!! I know if he could, he would intervene & get the baby back to mom. But...HE CANT DO THAT!!! My other point is, I do not recall there being so much "kidnapping" going on back when I first started watching. It's like the younger monks got together and decided to see who could kidnap the most and who could keep the baby the longest!! And it was bad enough with the juveniles doing all the kidnapping, and now we have neurotic adult monks doing most of the napping now, almost like an empty nest appeasement thing going on!! I don't know, I don't understand why the explosion of the kidnapping and especially the fact that it's mostly adult monks doing most of it now. Well this is just MHO. Selience, I started watching his videos when Cavan was a new born. Sochhun wasnt filming that many videos back then, I dont think there were that many babies in the troops. But he didnt start filming different troops until cavan got old enough to wonder around and play without Carbzilla. I can remember the very first real kidnapping I saw him video. It wasnt babysitting because the juvenile was very abusive to the baby dragging it over those large boulders that you sometimes see in the videos. Im guessing that was sometime in Jan. Right after that all these mother monkeys started having babys left and right. With more babies we started seeing more kidnappings/babysitters. Im wondering if there is a period during the year where there are only a few babies born at that time? Anyway, until he videos like he has been with all the troops for several months more I think we can find out if this is a weird increase in kidnappings or if this is actually the norm.

It could be that when Sochhun started he didn't catch any of that going on because he was concentrating on basic monkey troop behavior with the newborns. Only time will tell. I just feel so badly for this baby. It's really getting to me viscerally... We all have so much to learn about their behavior. I've noticed a big difference in the behavior of these monkeys here in Cambodia, and the monkeys in Japan that Arroz films. The obvious interference from tourists in Cambodia is having dire effects on thos monkeys, IMHO.. but then, I don't know enough to make that a judgement call... RustyAnne

I've watched many videos of humans ripping babies from there mothers (not that it's right). I've never seen a pack of monkeys full on attack a person! I do agree that even if the mother has the baby back she must defend it, but at least the kidnappers might think twice if they feel threatened if they take it. In any case, I'm no expert....just a KZbin addict. Can't anyone at least try to give the baby a bottle while the kidnapper is eating???
