Frugal Jo, of the UK, had a video on a day or so ago, on how to make sausage from oats, with 2 ounces of bacon. It was in an old cookbook, I think from the depression era, or WW2 era. She also has lots of useful frugal ideas. Her family is saving all of the extra money to buy a home.

Looks so darn good! Our daughter took us out for dinner yesterday. My main dish was $42!!! This did not include salad or dessert. We split a $10 salad and my dessert was $9, glass of wine was $9. WHAT?? Who does this? We rarely go out. This is total craziness!! Back to my own hamburger stroganoff over zucchini tonight, lasting 2 nights for 2 people, and I will also pick up something off the floor too, PP!

Those meals look good. If you cook the diced bacon first, you can then use the free drippings for frying those potatoes also. That will save you the cost of using vegetable oil. And will also give smoky flavor to the potatoes. I too use the broccoli stalk -- I peel it, then slice and cook it. Also use the little leaves on a head of broccoli.

Exactly PP never waste anything. Good onya for showing people how to save money and eat well in such hard times. This is even cheaper for me because i grow all those vegetables. Yes it costs to water and im not allowed to keep a tank but i catch as much rain as i can and i save all the water that comes through the tap while waiting on hot water. i keep 2 chickens for eggs and they get all the plants once i harvest and they give me fertilizer in return. This all works for me and every dollar i dont spend is a dollar saved to buy us a home. Much love from 🇦🇺

Now that I am living alone, I make stir fry alot. Fast and economical and tasty. I use up whatever veggies I have on hand. No 2 stir fries are the same. I generally use some kind of meat. Small piece of chicken or steak. I am not a big meat eater also. I will have to try with the bacon. I rarely go out to eat anymore because I also don't feel that great after eating. Good video.

You just inspired me to make a loaded baked potato. It was delicious and cheap, not to mention filling. Got a giant bag of potatoes on sale for 1.99, added to the potato, a slab of butter, small scoop of shredded cheese, a bit of A-1 steak sauce, a dash of green tobasco sauce, a couple of grinds of salt and pepper, a dollop of sour cream, and one piece of bacon . It seems like a lot of ingredients, but with using a small amount of all of these, it's extremely cheap, and it can be used so many times! Eat the whole potato including the skin for added nutrients. Boom! Cheap, delicious meal

One meal I've been having a lot recently is just rice, black beans (with onion and garlic). and 2-3 eggs over easy on top with some hot sauce. It's a bit lacking in fruit-veg nutrients - but it's got basically everything else you need for around $1 per serving. Another great thing about this is the rice and the beans both keep well in the fridge - so whenever you need a meal you can just reheat those in the microwave and just cook up a few eggs.

Composting on a small scale. Get a 5 gal bucket. Cut off bottom. Drill a ton of holes in the side. Push bucket down like 1/3 in ground in garden and start putting in coffee, scraps etc... Toss in a shovel of dirt and let it go... After a few months you pick up bucket and move to new spot... If the composted material isn't quite ready smash it down with shovel and cover with dirt... Works for me 😊

I love this meal suggestion! I have totally done that and eaten for 3-4 meals. I just watched a very interesting old (1930's) meal on Mary's Nest, from about 9 days ago, that is called tuna pie with cottage cheese biscuits. She didn't change anything from the old recipe, except to add dried parsley to the biscuit mixture, and made it with what they would have had back then. She said it was tasty and creamy but the tuna taste was subdued. Anyway, thought I would share it with you and the subscribers because it is economical and filled a 9x13 pan.

PP, thanks for your calm, and always reasonable, approach to frugality and simple living. You live a very rich and healthy life, and you’re a beautiful example to others. Sending you hugs and love- and, of course, to Rocky Boy!❤️❤️

I wonder if they’ll have to keep reducing meat by the end of the freshness date because no one is buying as much… it’ll end up thrown out if the prices don’t come down!

If it was just me I could pull it off but I have a 16 year old son. He eats in one day what would last me a week.

I also think one meal a day is enough and helps save a lot of money that ends down the pipes anyway

I love your ways! I put atofd back in the pot too 😂i got 5 kids, grew up in communist romania. My mom used to make cabbage soup and we’d eat that for 4-5 days in a row. You know what? I was much healthier then than overeating here all the junk.

It sounds like we eat similar meals! I plan our meals so that we have meat only on alternate days & the other days are lentils, beans or other non-meat protein meals. Rice is our friend to keep our meal prices down, especially as we're a family of me + my hubby & 2 adult sons & our other son eats with us a couple of nights per week too. Tonight was a veggie & bean soup with chickpea flour pancakes... delicious! Capsicums (bell peppers) are really expensive here, so we grow our own & only eat them when they're ripe. I'm thankful for our veggie garden to supplement our food.🥰 Blessings from South Australia💕🐨

This looks like what my mom often made when I was growing up. With 6 kids we grew a garden and had chickens for eggs. Mom often used meat for flavoring and whatever veggies we had for supper. We sometimes had meatless tacos. Mom just seasoned rice then added cheese, salsa and lettuce. We all grew up healthy and happy. I enjoy watching your videos. They remind me of some of the thrifty lessons I learned growing up. Thanks!

I love it when you do these types of videos! Love your couch! Is that a slip cover? If so, where did it come from. I would love to cover my old, second hand couch!
