Poor Man's Winding Sticks

In this quick video i am going to run you through how to make a poor man's version of a set of winding sticks. This tool build couldn't be easier or quicker, and will give you a tool you can potentially use for a life time.

That pine looked straight grained (quarter sawn?) so should stay fairly stable. Hope you've been surviving the Perth heat of latem

Yeah it was fairly straight grain. Those really hot days aren't fun, at least its cooler now

Hi Luke, I think I've commented on this before about my simple version, which is about two years old now. Pine is actually stable when it acclimatises to an environment - but the Brit climate is one way and the other throughout the year, so mine are now inaccurate. Quick trim with a plane and job done - for now, at least!

Bake em for a bit. It weakens the wood but it'll help set the structure and sap. I think the stability trade off can be pretty well worth it with winding sticks

@@AussieWoodshed guitar makers use it a lot, they call it torrefaction. It may be worth hitting up some of their forums for tips. Good luck 👍👍
