Last year I got a pittosporum from a nursery that went out of business and left some junky plants behind. It was in a five gallon container. I trimmed it back so that just the trunk and branches at the top. It has a neat looking trunk. I stuck it in a bonsai pot at a rakish 45 degree angle. I also partially defoliated it leaving only small leaves. Should be an interesting project.

I just found your channel as I was looking to learn about bonsais. And I would love to see a follow up video on how this one is doing! I’m going to binge watch all your videos now, lol! And I’m looking forward to starting my own very soon. Any suggestions as to what specific plants make great bonsai starters? Thanks again for your videos :)

I like that style. I know sometimes I go to the nursery or garden center and leave with nothing but sometimes you find a plant that has great potential nice fine.

Very true! Sometimes it can be hard to find something with a nice trunk. Glad you liked this one!

i have one that just kinda already looks trimmed? in a one gallon. so i figured why not try to bonsai it. i’m wondering though did you put yours into a bonsai pot like that or are you keeping it in the nursery pot?

Treat it just like a buxus. They are marketed as an alternative for hedging

@@PoorMansBonsai like you said, lots of common names get shared between plants, and both those names are funny. I dig your channel, and I'm very interested in the follow up.
