It's been about 3 years since we pumped this tank last (it was backing up into the house). They gave us a call to pump out the system for preventative maintenance.

I have an aerobic system and the lid to Tank 1 that catches all the effluent out of the house was buried and I would get a high water alarm every time it rained hard. I had a riser put on it and no longer have that problem and also don't have to dig when pumping time comes around. I keep a service contract on it and it gets inspected quarterly. Best money I spend every year. Treat the system right and it will treat you right!

In another life / at another house I had an ATU setup. What I found interesting with this video is that 1) there are ATU setups without mounds (I had a mound) but use sprinklers instead of a drain field (interesting idea - frequently water your lawn 😀) and 2) the are ATU setups that use a single tank - my setup was a two-tank setup (I think a 1,500 gal & a 500(?) gal - it's been a minute since I lived there) and then a lift "station" (not tank) that housed the pump that fed the distribution box further away in the yard. I, too, was (by choice) on a service contract with that system. I've since moved into a house that has a traditional two-chamber-single-tank that gravity feeds to the drain lines in the yard. Less maintenance and cost 🙂 (especially when I don't have to mess with replacing a $1,000+ above-grade blower when it dies). Thanks for the video - I got me some learning 😀

I can remember when I was a kid we had tanks that needed to get pumped at least once a year, they had 2 compartments and the liquids flew into the sewer. After they built the sewage plant the tanks got bypassed, mine is now being used as a cistern

Serious question, just cause I see it in all your videos. Why wear gloves if you're going to touch your phone and truck and go pro anyway? Just in case for ease of cleanup? Genuinely curious. I love the videos!!

@@PoorPumperSociety We do not use inlet baffles here in Michigan. Most that I see are backing the line up. Do you see them causing backups from kids with too much TP in the toilet?
@typezero8929
@typezero8929 2 жыл бұрын
@@mikealfieri641 here in central Oregon all tanks have inlet baffles. Usually just made of 4" ABS plastic (although the older tanks often have cast iron or concrete). They do get clogged, but usually only when the tank has gone far too long without being pumped.

You make it look easy 😐😵‍💫. Glad the video doesn't convey any odors. Good thing you have that poop smoothie maker, getting down in there with a headlamp and scraper wouldn't be much fun. Lastly, what happens when you drop your cell down in there? Dive in after it?

I have an ATU with a mound and was advised by one company that running the aerobic motor will just put excess sludge into the mound causing it to fail. No maintenence contracts up here in pa an no chlorine. Thoughts on that advice?
@PoorPumperSociety
@PoorPumperSociety 2 жыл бұрын
I'd go based off the engineering specifications, but we don't really deal with mounds down here in Texas

Yeah, not everything has to be run to the government lol. But yes, a huge amount of people have to use septic systems because they’re simply too fair away from sewage service. It would cost a fortune to run sewer lines miles upon miles in rough terrain, especially here where I live in the mountains. It makes much more sense to build a septic system.
