@artsy721 When rolling the clay slabs out, make sure to roll in both directions and keep the clay an even thickness - this will help reduce warping. You can also flip the clay over when it is partialy dry.to allow it to dry on the other side.

We did not have luck using gel pens. I recommend using Crayola washable markers. They transfer really well

Great instructional video. Wouldn't I have to flip the photo horizontally before transfering to the clay, as to avoid a flipped image?

So, the gel pen will transfer to clay? What other options besides gel pen is recommended?
@Blick_Art10 жыл бұрын
BillyBones139 Hi! The gel pen works because it is a water based pen and the wet clay or spray of water on the back will rehydrate it and transfer it. You may also be able to get similar results from a charcoal or pastel pencil, a heavy graphite pencil line, or a water based marker (Crayola). If you would like additional assistance, please feel welcome to contact our Product Information team at 1-800-933-2542

So, in theory the Crayola Portfolio water soluble oil pastels should work. I'll put it on my "to try" list along with marker.

u can just trace over the pic its self with a small round tool or the pen tip itself and much much much easier and time saving :) so just place pic on cly and trace onto it :} WALLA!

Would gel pen transfer to other mediums like air dry clay or cold porcelain?
@Blick_Art8 жыл бұрын
+starwolf539 No, unfortunately the gel pen will dry on the paper and will not transfer. Ball point pens really do work the best. If you have additional questions, you can reach Blick Product Information at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com. Thanks!

when i put water into the photo, the picture itself transferred into the clay
@Blick_Art9 жыл бұрын
+Chelle Jones If you don’t want that to happen and your image is printed in water-soluble ink, use a sheet of lightweight copy paper on top of the picture to trace your lines with the gel pen. That way, only those lines will transfer to the clay. If you have additional questions, you can reach Blick Product Information at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com.

I have been trying for some time to transfer a drawing onto wet ADC, with not much luck. I've tried gel pens (transfers very faint), and felt tip pens (this looked great, but within an hour it was 'melting' and disappeared into the ADC. I tried the ball point pen (with high hopes after reading your suggestion below), and it did nothing as well. I am dampening the paper on the back to transfer the image, and have gone from regular computer paper to thicker, nearly card stock. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you in advance.

Jackie, I was having trouble too. Almost gave up on this. Then I picked up a gel pen which I thought I had already used and presto it worked. I think gel pen is the key. My wife uses gel pens for coloring and her gel pens are juicy- color really flows out. They work great for this. Maybe you figured this out already but I wanted to share my breakthrough just in case you needed help.

@Blick_Art9 жыл бұрын
+noor jehan The clay used in the video is the Blick White Moist Talc Firing Clay (www.dickblick.com/products/blick-white-moist-talc-firing-clay/). You can also use a white colored airdry clay or for an interesting effect, consider terra cotta or a red colored clay. what kind of materials do you use for hanging?
@Blick_Art9 жыл бұрын
Doğa Çam You can create a hole in the back of the tile for a nail to be inserted into, glue a saw tooth hanger on the back after it has dried or been fired, or use high temp wire (if firing in a kiln) or standard wire (if it is air dry clay) to create a loop that is inserted into the back of the clay from which it can be hung. For any additional questions, you can reach Blick Product Information at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com. Thanks!

+Samiya Shah If your clay surface gets too dry prior to transferring your image, use a spray bottle of water to mist the surface. You can also apply a thin layer of water with a sponge or your hand. If you have additional questions, you can reach Blick Product Information at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com. Thanks!

Can you use polymer clay?
@Blick_Art8 жыл бұрын
+ Reagan Miller Yes, you can use polymer clay if you don’t have a kiln. Be aware though, that polymer clay is not cheap and may not be the most cost effective option if you are on a budget. If you need a more economical option, consider air dry clay. The process would be the same but you would not fire/ bake it, just let it air dry. If you have additional questions, you can reach Blick Product Information at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com. Thanks!

Thank you. Yes, I have used PC and ADC before. With the ADC I have even used rubber stamps. Paper clay also takes on great detail if that's what you want. It's a little pricey if you are making something big though. I don't have a kiln but I think I'll try this using paper clay but smaller tiles. Thx for the tips!
