GT 250 tank I used a 16” bicycle tube I picked up at dollar store. Shoved the whole tube into side with dent. I should have heated tank a little in sun or with heat gut but thank God the dent popped out just as the tube popped! Looks much better now. 👍 Thanks for the great idea.

This is genius! I have just purchased TWO 2012 Honda CBR250r motorcycles. The red one has a sizeable but not creasing dent in the right side of the tank, plus it is fuel injected so it has a sizeable entrance hole in the bottom of the tank tank for the fuel pump. i can see now this is going to WORK...Thanks...Al

Thanks buddy! 4 yrs later I'm trying to figure out how to fix a 40yr old tank. Looking on ebay and the only one is in worse shape than mine! This has made my day. Bless you.

Very inventive way to approach dent removal. Often warming the metal helps encourage the metal to move more easily. I have a dent in a rear quarter panel to remove when the weather warms up and was thinking of using an air wedge. After seeing your technique, I’m going to copy it and use an inner tube and my compressor. Thanks for making this video.

Nice trick! I've been doing electrolysis on my gas tank for the past few weeks and it's got a couple small spots pushed in a bit. This strategy should work well after watching how it worked for you.
@fernc35025 жыл бұрын
Good idea but it's better if you have tank mounted on the bike then pressured. The pressure sometimes makes other parts of the tank expand. This will make a hard time fitting tank back on the bike. Found out the hard way.

Or a combination. put the tube inside and pressure it up, if that won't do it add the dent puller to it.

Good Idea for easy flop out dents, it's no use for sharper ones, but never the less, it's an option when possible.

just use a whole tube , and use the valve and stem complete , no need for the messing about , just get on with it. the valve stem will stick out the hole and work fine works well on door skins too , but it can move the whole panel so take care , but its still better than a dent , works really well on big soft dents.

@pnblondon1087 Жыл бұрын
Impressive demo, but I couldn't help wondering whether it was really necessary to cut that section out of the tube? Presumably it would be much harder to get the tube in and out of the tank if you didn't? Also, good point about doing it with the bike in situ, on the bike, to avoid expansion in the wrong places and making it impossible to refit! Finally, you've written 'technik' when you obviously mean *technique*.

I have a GS1000 tank with a dent in the side on the forward cheek, the widest part. I am going to brace the arch with wood and fill with water and use a hydraulic hand pressure test pump to help push it out, I may use a glue on puller at the same time, but this sure is a good idea with the tube.

Drill a couple of holes in the tank . Using a slide hammer pull out the dents in the regular manner. Fill up the tank 95% with water then close the tank cap . Turn the tank dent side upward . Now braze over the holes. Now, with file(s) shape the brazed area to the desired contour . Wa La ! you have just repaired your tank !
@googleuser88915 жыл бұрын
do you weld the holes shut or can you use jb weld and grind it flush or what? email me hoss1531@Gmail.com ill send a picture of my tank

Wa Law, you now have two very large burn spots and filed down bronze as a custom decoration on a previously painted tank (that is provided you were planning to still ride the bike).
