Guys, I love it. You’ve got the low clearance when you need it to drive under low bridges etc, and the extra space when you want to stretch your legs. Also, this is the first non-school bus van conversion I’ve sent that will be able to sleep more than two! I can’t wait to see the finished thing.

Checked out the video as my pop top is being fitted at the moment. Only to my surprise a Stilton pork pie!! What game changer. Big up Greggs sausage rolls.

To avoid trapping the canvas in the frame we use a pop top bungie. A specially made elasticated cord which goes all around the canvas and pulls the canvas a little thus stopping it blowing out plus make sure a window or door is open or the trapped air in the van will push the canvas outwards even with a bungie fitted.

That pop top has transformed your van.just like to say that if you want to register it as a motor caravan DVLA has a new set of rules to comply with.you must have 2 windows on one side and an awning rail. There is probably info on their website. Happy camping you two.

Pop top looks like game changer. Being back in the UK one of the first things I sought out were baked goods. Pukka pies were as good as I remembered. I agree on the simple sausage roll.

You won't regret a Austops roof, had one on my last T5 and it never gave me any issues even after I subjected it to some pretty extreme conditions. The included wiring for the light in the roof is a nice touch too. Certainly a better roof than the one I've just fitted to my Sprinter!

I am getting an austops pop up roof fitted on my T5 very soon. After watching the video I am even more excited. Are you guys happy with the roof's settings in the driver's / co-driver's area? That "hole" on the top of my head is my only concern. However, I am so eager to travel the UK in the van having our bikes attached, my lady sitting next to me exploring this beautiful country. I just can't wait to disembark the ferry in Newcastle starting a trip "into the blue". Thank you two for the inspiring video.

Glad you're happy with the pop top. Our van had one when we bought it, had it for a year and a half before someone spotted it wasn't on straight 🤣. Took it to a local firm and it looks good as new. Should make an excellent wildlife hide, enjoy guys 👍

The Market Harborough area is a lovely place to be (OK, I'm biased as I'm originally from Leicestershire). Each year we come back to the UK, we always rent the same place in a nearby village called Theddingworth. Our happy place. Fish & chips in the Farndon Shop Café is nice too, with some locally brewed beer. Loving the videos.

You have to come to Hill Head, near Southampton. Park up, sea on one side, nature reserve on the other, great for bird watching, sun bathing, meeting van people.. You won't regret it. Be kind to the environment, leave no trace. 👍

We had a 1985 Westfalia pop top and absolutely loved it! Being able to stand up to get dressed was wonderful. We stashed our clothes up on the “bed” while camping. Only complaint would be the heat loss through the canvas on cold nights. If it got too cold , we’d just pull the top down at night.

Love it 💗 I think for the price comparison it’s hard because a high roof van you can get for £5,000-£7,000 and with a normal van it’s £3,000 + £3500 it’s works out similar. I love the options it just makes it tough to decide both have pros and cons

I was expecting the old 'Westie-with-poptop' look with the poptop sitting on top of the car like a hat. - This looks so much sleeker and better! You'll probably even be able to drive into multi-storey car parks. But, since you asked: I would always (and will) get a high-roof van, as I'm planning a van as my travelling retirement home (to happen within the next 5 years). I've subscribed in order to follow you along the van build, to learn what I can and nick ideas and 'how-tos'. Apart from that I enjoy your very entertaining way of storytelling! :)

Hi Emma and Alex - Love your channel and your new pop top just one bit of advise though be careful when lowering the canvas that it doesn't get caught in the cross struts on the outside as the canvas can get caught in it then you will have a rip the material i found out to my cost, so i bought a bellows strap that's like a big elastic cord that you put around the pop top so when you close the pop top the cord will pull the canvas in so it doesn't snag anywhere its so worth it to protect your new pop top, just thought i would mention it. Have some amazing trips together.

Good film. I've never had a picnic that looks that good. The pop-top looks smart and comfortable at the same time. In the grand scheme of things I think it's fair value too as it almost doubles the usable space inside. If you decide to sell the van I think you'll get most of your money back. Speaking of the van (what did you call it in the end? Millennium Falcon?) it looks good but the wheels are letting it down. You could paint them. Take one off at a time, mask the tyre, give the steel a bit of a rub down and either brush paint or use an aerosol. It's a cheap and cheerful fix. Cheers!
