Thats one of the first things we added to our pop up! I was surprised it didn't have any of those 12V outlets already installed, but since we also added a solar system for boondocking I really wanted to take advantage of the extra power we were bringing in
@ItsPoppin4 жыл бұрын
Nice, we just picked up a small, portable 30 watt solar panel to play around with and test out. If we boondocked more, I would definitely consider getting a bigger panel. I'm also surprised pop ups, even ours that is 12 years old, didn't come standard with at least a 12v socket. Its definitely not new technology - lol.

@@ItsPoppin Blue Merle Australian Shepherd! We thought she would be old enough to go on our first pop up camping trip but she still needed her 4 month vaccines Our pop up is definitely cramped with two dogs though, our model only has a full and a twin for the beds, and the two dogs would prefer to sleep in the same bed as us haha

Great mod. Did it to my camper as well. One thing to note: Blue leds look great but are harsh for sleeping. I ended up swapping mine out to the red led version. Much better in the middle of the night.

Another great video! We were originally going to replace the wall receptacles with newer ones that have UBS ports, but we are going to use this mod instead. Love having the battery volt display and this can be used boondocking while the wall receptacles are not.

Thanks for the video. Another winner!! This is definitely a mod that those of us who don't own a tool belt could do. (Well, maybe with a friend doing an 'over the shoulder.') I like how you included all the links to the hardware below; much appreciated. Suggestion: Consider some kind of very shallow plastic or aluminum phone holder to fasten near the panel. Just the depth of the panel itself, to hold a phone while charging. Just put the phone in the slot, plug it in, and check back in an hour.

I just opened up the ole (1983) popup last week. No water damage woohoo. I did have a couple buttons on the lower canvas that need attention. I'm gonna have to relook at your video where you redid your buttons. My goal is to streamline to popup setup part using the 19mm drill attachment etc. etc. Also gonna look at the hand crank part process. I was thinking of getting a cheap cordless harbor freight drill that I can keep exclusively in the popup utility door section so I don't lose the higher end drill at a campsite. Also we booked a Memorial Day Weekend trip to Indiana Beach. You got the best popup channel on YT keep up the good work. Take Care my friend.

What about a fuse for the usb port? Do u not need one to protect your phone or whatever device u have sucking down those 12volts?

It’s fused at the converter box, but I’m sure an extra in-line fuse wouldn’t hurt.

Will this tell me how much power is left in the battery until it needs to be charged again?
@ItsPoppin3 жыл бұрын
It will give you an approximation. Google 12v battery voltage chart and it will give you voltages that roughly correlate with how much battery percentage is left. If it's a lead acid battery, remember to keep it above 50% at all times.

@@ItsPoppin Not so great for Lithium though! I did the same mod (same panel even!) and tried using this for the battery level but on my last camping trip I really had no idea. Depending on the recent load the voltage fluctuates heaps and takes a long time to settle. I'm putting in a proper meter yet, a cheaper version of a victron. I also want to install some wireless charging pads for phones near the bed

A tent trailer is it’s own kind of monster but we love it from its compact size to store, to ease of towing to the roomy size with our kids keep it up on the video ‘s and do you have anything that would talk about an outdoor hot water shower tent idea ? We’ve seen some systems out there but they all seem to have limitations in some fashion , our idea was to purchase a shower tent with separate porta potti dry room that Walmart sells but the hot water systems have us at a crossroad , any thought or ideas would be helpful .
