Most likely but they lucked out, yes, those underground utilities are to be at a certain depth or a certain amount of cover, but running a trencher right over them like that gas and electric pretty negligent work just hand dig a spot hole with a shovel there and we put eyes on them. I’m actually kind of surprised he did that. I know this guy does good work.

The original installer probably stopped where they did because they got it located and knew there were underground utilities that they didn't want to deal with in the event they were shallow. Your extra effort makes all the difference!

In my state you can't discharge rain water on public streets, what original installer did was acceptable. Maybe it's time to get a slightly bigger coring bit and make a jig to hold core drill so that a guy doesn't have to risk his boots or feet (we core drill in different instances, but use commercially Ava core drill stands)

Good to see you back in action - it's been a while. Ques 1: did you intend to aim the core drill downward - forming a V to match up on the other side? 2: why do you always backfill 100% of the dirt? That's 190 cu in per foot of pipe that you don't need.

A Fernco and some lube works well at all pinch points like that. Love the content Also, Zip a sawz all parallel with the pipe and put the cut in the pipe at the top of the curb hole. That will give an extra 16th of an inch to get the pipe in. Less likely to pop the concrete or damage the pipe. wont effect flow at all either.

Hey Shawn, why not just use a 4" fernco instead of fighting the last joint? It would give you the extra bend you need to follow the yards slope and your not beating the pipe in and out of the curb risking the concrete cracking. To me the extra $10 is well spent by the customer. The new white ones are only $14. Another thing I see used alot in copper plumbing pipes and electrical conduit are slip couplings. The PVC schedule 40/80 electrical conduit slip couplings are very expensive because they are raking the electric companies over the coals who in turn charge the customers. All you have to do to make one is take a $4 repair coupling and deburr the stop from the center of the pipe. This would allow you to use it as a slip coupler in situations like this where you can't wedge it in by lifting the pipe. I would use a 2-3" drum sander bit for a die grinder and hone the coupling out. The drain pipe is under no pressure so the PVC glue will take care of any scratches or voids. Anyways, just my 2 cents. Glad your still using the curb boring bits and doing it clean.

We almost had to do that here! I like to at least try and get the schedule 40 through there before using the fernco. 👍
