I think it actually was perfectly made for summer, and wouldn't work for another holiday break because of the length of the summer break that propelled the main conflict forward. This was one of my favorite specials growing up.

Oh hell yes. I was weirdly obessed with this one as a kid so I ended up watching it a lot since I had the DVD and has the songs memorized and probably still do at this point, most of them still go pretty hard lol. (Where is the fun being the big favorite I think). Probably my 2nd favorite of the FOP specials behind Channel Chasers.

I always tell Spongeboomers and people who pretend this show doesn’t exist after Channel Chasers and claim nothing good came after their planned finales that some of the best episodes or specials of those shows or even movies came after them! This was one of them! To this day, I randomly sing Where Is The Fun or The Pixies Rap in my sleep!

I'd say the Flanderization of characters and constant additions of new characters while ignoring older ones contributed to the show's less than stellar final seasons. I mean, I liked Sparky, but he felt like he came in too late into the show and was used too much. And do NOT get me started on Cloe. The show tanked in quality by then, but JEEEEZ! I'm more disappointed that there was a lot of potential they could have built up, but just resulted in the same "Crocker tries to take Timmy's fairies" and "stupid wish does stupid things" plotlines. And frankly, the Poof/Foop magic school could have been a spinoff. They should have ended the main series and switched it over to that.

Honestly, I saw it as a good “turn brain off” special. I remember it fondly- and the build up to School’s Out with the clock ticking down is vivid to me… I mean, who wouldn’t get hyped for the last day before Summer?

The people working on A New Wish really know the show. They recently recalled how Cosmo and Wanda met at the diner and they’d load up on milkshakes. All you need is your hand in myyyyy haaaaand!
@bullmonty7644 ай бұрын
I appreciate A New Wish for somehow beating the odds and being genuinely good after years of franchise fatigue, but I don’t know how to feel about it bringing back old characters en masse in the recent bomb of episodes. Mostly because it leads to less appearances by the new, more compelling cast compared to the old characters. I personally wanna see more of Winn for them not only being positive non-binary representation, but also being positive popular kid representation by being legitimately nice after so many years of characters like Trixie, Chad and Tad, and even Dash from Danny Phantom. I don’t know, seeing all these comebacks just makes me think “Don’t let anything happen to the best person.” Obviously not best boy, as the phrase typically goes, because I’m not prejudiced (Okay I just looked it up; they haven’t been abandoned yet 👍)

@@DigiRangerScott As a black man who’s researched as far as he could, The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish is the only GOOD black kids show now. Which is a sentence I never thought I would say. The really sad part is that there’s barely any good black kids shows running right now. I’m sure there’s some I haven’t heard of. But then you look at shows from the big three networks. Young Dylan sucks, That Girl Lay Lay sucks, even The Proud Family reboot sucks now! All three networks have been sabotaging practically every show that isn’t a spin-off, sequel series or reboot for like the past 5 years now. One of the victims unfortunately includes Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. And who knows if that show will get a third season. Raven’s Home, Craig of the Creek and the latter show’s spin-off, Jessica’s Big Little World, which A New Wish apparently has the same crew as along with Infinity Train, are all over now. Iyanu: Child of Wonder which we’ve waited for almost two years was just announced to be delayed to 2025! The best we can hope for is that A New Wish stays consistent with their quality moving forward. But they seem to understand the assignment because it’s the best franchise has been since season 6 which was “Poof”’s birth year!

Speaking of "summer break" themed cartoon specials, as a kid going to elementary school in the early 00s, my school had a tradition of playing Recess: School's Out for everyone at the end of the year.

I think as an episode, this was the natural conclusion of the concept. A LOT of the series could have been solved here, showing how the kids could get so spoiled by the FAIRY GOD PARENTS!!!! so badly, they'd revolt if given the chance. Obviously, also giving the FAIRIES!!! a mortal enemy ready to swoop in at their moment of weakness. It could have been a finale episode, but clearly more episodes were down the line, so we basically just have a sequel episode to "Totally Spaced Out" where the Learn-a-torium was first introduced and a bunch of songs. Channel Chasers is considered to be a finale because, among other things, it solved the Vicky problem AND proved that Timmy's Parents really DO love and care about him, but were too busy to notice anything. I've always been disappointed they never made an episode where they solved Crocker by having the school fire him, making him more crazed and dangerous until he was finally caught. This episode could have solved both the FAIRIES!!!! giving the kids too much power problem AND the parents just want to take care of their kids problem, but just settles it with a status quo return in the next episode. That said, I applaud the new (good) reboot for being more nuanced with adult figures. There's only like 2 actual evil and or oppressive adult figures, and Hazel's parents are loving, yet busy while the teachers are looked upon as guidance figures instead of villains.

Of course, the "Kids Vs. Adults" angle became much more prominent when flanderization hits the fan faster than actual shit. For instance: Timmy's parents went from "Clueless yet lovable adults who genuinely loves Timmy and whose only crime were unintentionally lying to him regrading how nice Vicky is when they first hired her" to "Neglectful abusing manchildren who frequently mentions that they really don't a shit about Timmy and sees him as a burden, especially since they were suspecting a girl rather than a boy when Timmy was born".

Guy Moon also composed music for "Cow and Chicken", the "Billy and Mandy" portion of "Grim & Evil" and co-composed the music for "ChalkZone". (Plus his "Simpsons" inspired track, "Bart-mania" was used not just during the scene from "Channel Chasers" that parodied "The Simpsons". But it was also used in the first episode of "SpongeBob", "Help Wanted".)

I wouldn't say this didn't shake up the status quo for Fairly Odd Parents. As Flappy Bob or the Learn-a-torium would not be featured or even mentioned in the show since. Also, is it just me but does S Scott Bullock's singing sound like his homage to the song 'Laugh, Clown, Laugh'? A song which many of us first heard from Looney Tunes.

I’ve got a serious hunch that, Sample Platters aside, the main Nick Knacks series is unofficially but officially cancelled. Look at how long it’s been since the Clarissa episode - almost *half a year* by this point! And then there’s all the bad stuff that’s happened to Greg since the episode dropped. I just think it’s hard to deny that the main series has basically ended as of now. It just hasn’t been officially announced for some reason
