It also has to be a specific variety of corn that is for popping. You can't just use dried sweet corn.

I notice that you never refer to it as corn on the cob, you call it "popcorn" even when it is still on the cob. Am I correct to infer that this corn has been conditioned specially? There are articles online which link to this video, claiming you're literally just putting corn on the cob into a microwave, but it is my understanding that the corn has to be dried first. I don't know much about agriculture, so if I'm wrong please let me know. Is this regular corn or is it dried or specially treated somehow?
@MarvPerk39 жыл бұрын
+TheFounderUtopia Yes, it is a variety specifically bred to be popcorn, and sold as "popcorn seeds". It is definitely not the usual corn on the cob that people usually consume as "sweet corn". It also, unlike normal corn on the cob, needs to stay on the plant until totally dry, and usually dry some more after harvest, otherwise, it will not pop properly. I grow my own popcorn on the cob, but it is available on the internet if you search specifically for it.
@TheFounderUtopia9 жыл бұрын
MarvPerk3 Thank you!
@malikgg01957 жыл бұрын
MarvPerk3 is the corn on the cob a normal grown, without anything that would change it drasticly, and just normal dryed until it has no water? And can you make this kind of popcorn also with just a camp fire?

@paddymacgibson42647 жыл бұрын
Can one just buy fresh corn and dry it out? Or does it have to be speciality corn? How long do you dry it out? Thanks! Great video.
@MarvPerk37 жыл бұрын
No, you cannot use fresh sweet corn that is typically sold in grocery stores. You must use a variety of corn that is specifically bred for popping. If you are growing it, it stays on the stalk until the stalks start turning brown, and then must still air dry for several weeks after harvesting. If you find/buy ears of popcorn on the internet, they are likely dried enough already. Any videos out there showing popping corn from regular sweet corn are fakes.
@paddymacgibson42647 жыл бұрын
MarvPerk3 Thank you very much for your reply. I'll look it up and try to find some. I'd like to grow popcorn but I'm in a town in CA that gets more fog than sun in the summer. Tomatoes do well, corn not so much. Have a great day. Thank you again.
