Your wise ass question makes me believe you're the same person I've made a formal complaint about to KZbin (using a different account) and I'm about to email them yet another screenshot with you on yet another channel of mine. I beg you to keep it up, because every time g+/YT sees you on each one of my channels, you're building a case against yourself, leaving me not to have to utter a word. I notice that you never refer to it as corn on the cob, you call it "popcorn" even when it is still on the cob. Am I correct to infer that this corn has been conditioned specially? There are articles online which link to this video, claiming you're literally just putting corn on the cob into a microwave, but it is my understanding that the corn has to be dried first. I don't know much about agriculture, so if I'm wrong please let me know. Is this regular corn or is it dried or specially treated somehow?
@MarvPerk3
@MarvPerk3 9 жыл бұрын
+TheFounderUtopia Yes, it is a variety specifically bred to be popcorn, and sold as "popcorn seeds". It is definitely not the usual corn on the cob that people usually consume as "sweet corn". It also, unlike normal corn on the cob, needs to stay on the plant until totally dry, and usually dry some more after harvest, otherwise, it will not pop properly. I grow my own popcorn on the cob, but it is available on the internet if you search specifically for it.

Can one just buy fresh corn and dry it out? Or does it have to be speciality corn? How long do you dry it out? Thanks! Great video.
@MarvPerk3
@MarvPerk3 7 жыл бұрын
No, you cannot use fresh sweet corn that is typically sold in grocery stores. You must use a variety of corn that is specifically bred for popping. If you are growing it, it stays on the stalk until the stalks start turning brown, and then must still air dry for several weeks after harvesting. If you find/buy ears of popcorn on the internet, they are likely dried enough already. Any videos out there showing popping corn from regular sweet corn are fakes.

Actually, it isn't regular corn on the cob. It is a special type of cob of corn that will pop into popcorn off the cob. Can't remember the name?

It has to be a variety specifically bred for popping, and, it must be thoroughly dried. The variety I used is called "Robust" but there are many varieties of popping corn.

Maybe some, but most stayed on the cob.

Does that taste better than the store bought popcorn. I never had it right off the cob like that. Cool!

I would love to grow that same popcorn myself! What is that variety of popcorn called? Where did you get it? That is exactly what I have been looking for, but I can not find it anywhere! The only ones I can seem to find produce small ears (like 2-3 inches) or are some multicolored corn or even kinds that only make 1-2 ears per stalk.

The variety I have grown twice is called "Robust" and it is available from Johnny's Seeds, johhnyseeds.com.

What variety of corn is that? It has a nice yellow colour to it. All the popcorn I've ever got pops pretty white, and the stuff in the supermarket doesn't label the variety on the package.

+sisbrawny It is called "Robust" and I purchased the seed from Johnny's seed (online seller) and grew it in the garden.

This is EXCELLENT, good video too, thanks!! I was thinking we were going to have to, somehow, take kernels off and dry them out or something lol. Was not expecting to do it this way at all, clever. Hello little dogs :)
