@@susanedrington4878 I can’t remember everything, but he was mostly like a big brother. At first he was asking how we got there, telling us to be careful, etc. after all, we were kids down town alone. He told us who he was, about his music, etc. once he told us who he was, I knew. My Mom had records we played of him and other Motown singers. What I remember most was, he was just a regular guy looking out for two young kids. Like a said, a big brother type thing. We didn’t go all crazy because we were too young to fully understand what his presence meant. After the walk, we were standing by the fountain on Belle Isle and the hosts announced him and called him up on a platform. I was so blessed to have met him. His words still hold me up. He was a kind, simple gifted man.

It's okay to love your father from afar. I love my cousin from a far, but love and trust are not automatically intertwined. The negative influences of this world are designed to make our heart sick through emotional & physical pain resulting in a given person turning to music as one source of comfort to the body. The painful realty of this existence gives rise to the birth of music in two forms, earthly & HEAVENLY. Earthly music speaks to the experiences of this world through the singer-song writer’s eyes. Oftentimes drug use (i.e. alcohol, smokes, marijuana, cocaine, opioids, benzos and propofol to name a few) is intertwined with the survival of an artist to deal with the pressure of performing in order to stay relevant in the music industry, and to serve as fuel for creativity. As a result, music celebrities develop a tendency to sin against their body, through excessive drug use, for not measuring up to or to satisfy the demands of their music. Any earthly joy they experience is darkened by the heavy burden of performing and the loss of privacy. The end users of their music become fans because the lyrics are relatable and the sound of the singer’s voice & rhythm helps them cope with the pains of this reality. Unfortunately, this band aid approach is only a time out from the hurt and in the meantime we are fortifying its wall with painful memories waiting in line. Who can save us from wounds that are silent, wordless and cruel all the while tearing us apart inch by inch on the inside, which could radically accelerate the demise of the human body? I will use caps as emphasis to show the honest reverence for GOD'S SOVEREIGNTY when writing about HEAVENLY music in the paragraphs below. That INVINCIBLE DIVINE be our HEAVENLY FATHER, WHO THROUGH HIS SON’S MISSION HAS INSPIRED believers to write songs that sing of HIS LIFE GIVING LOVE to deal with emotional & physical pain, economic instability, mortality and the emotional instability of others with the motive of winning over souls for HIS KINGDOM. The melody & theme of HEAVENLY music is hateful and intolerable to the devil, a spirit which causes us to be blinded of the effects of sin and is responsible for the woes of this world such as melancholy, anguish, tribulation and trial. These agitations of the soul create a heavy burden for the lost and could lead him or her to be hostile of songs that sing about GOD’S GLORY. This makes it clear that we cannot win the spiritual battle by our own strength. Moreover, on earth the devil has no equal. GOD has provided us with the ONE WHO CAN AND WILL LIFT the heavy burden of sin's guilt from a given sinner's heart if he or she (through faith) would open their understanding to Psalms (starting with the focus on Psalms 51:1-10 KJV), and hymns/songs giving praise to HIM for the purpose of being persuaded, converted and healed by the HOLY SPIRIT from within by transforming your body/temple into a meeting place for you and the KING OF THE AGES to commune as friends through the born again experience (repentance manifesting itself in a changed life). It is only here that the fears of tomorrow will diminish, the blessed assurance is given that you are HIS and HE LIVES. Once the blessed assurance is known in prayer (through the confession of wanting salvation from one’s sinful nature, combine with admitting that JESUS CHRIST is LORD and believing in one’s heart that GOD raised HIM from the dead to deliver us from sin's guilt) the world can never take it away because the world didn’t give it to you.

Marvin though... made mistakes, putting off rehab while descending further into drug addiction and paranoia, filling the house with weapons, bringing drug dealers and fellow druggies into the house that his parents lived in (whether he owned it or not), in and out, beating his father that one time even though he must have known on some level what the result might be, even giving his father a gun. Maybe it was a kind of 'death by father' suicide instead of a 'death by cop' suicide. Maybe it wasn't, we will never know. Surprised his father got off with a suspended sentence for voluntary manslaughter. It is like there whole lives together, father and son, and the relationship they had, were leading to that one point. where one of them was almost bound to die at the hand of the other. Though with different choices, it would not have been.

Emotional feelings are highly ranked up there with love. If you don't love you have non of those other emotions of the senses! When men cry especially, black men( many of know in our communities the stigma placed upon African American if they have a moment of emotional caring) you know in the heart the love of another being or brother that meant something to you is gone like that! You know thats a sense of emotion full of love! Crying isn't unmanly its human.

@tothelighthouse98432 жыл бұрын
@@Go4Gusto Family violence is often generational--studies show that children who live thru family violence are more likely to become perpetrators or victims themselves as adults. So it's very possible that Marvin was abused by his father, who was in turn abused by *his* father, Marvin's grandfather. The violence may go back generations. And from the video it sounds like Marvin continued the cycle, with his violence & threats to his 2nd wife. Additionally, studies show those exposed to violence when they're young are more likely to abuse drugs & alcohol as adults, which may give insight into Marvin's addiction. If abuse survivors don't have healthy ways to cope with the trauma they'll often resort to self-medicating with drugs & alcohol to escape the pain. Fortunately there are many brave souls who break the cycle & learn how to cope without abusing drugs or alcohol, & how to parent without violence & abuse.

Marvin Sr. was definitely not right in the head. He grew up in an abusive household himself but apparently never learned that was wrong to do and felt that he had reason to abuse his own family. It's a sad story, Marvin Sr. was just a horrible human being. Marvin Jr. was a pure soul perhaps corrupted you could say by his demons and what he had to deal with growing up. That negative stuff never really leaves a person. A healthy normal family is so important for one's well-being.

Marvin's murder was indeed a Suicide. Brilliantly orchestrated by Marvin himself. No doubt about the father's legion of demons, Marvin knew, fully well, the Consequences of taking a swipe at his father. Yet he did it. Why? Life held no real meaning to him anymore. All he wanted was the Love of a Woman, which had eluded him, even after two attempts. His inability to find and Sustain a loving relationship, coupled with certain other perceived ineptitudes, Made life seemingly meaningless to him. Unfortunate, Sad, but true!

My mother is toxic, uncaring and manipulative. She worked all through my childhood, teens and early adult life to isolate, alienate and cause rifts with me and my siblings, my father and even my partner. My entire childhood was filled with violence, isolation and hate. It got to a point where my own mother influenced my elder brother to attack me when I was at one of my lowest points, and heavily pregnant. After a significant period of seperation, I forgave my mother at least for the sake of my children having the chance to have a relationship with her as their 'grandmother. Unfortunately that was short lived, my mother continued to manipulate, neglect and make everything about herself and could never truly be counted on. So as difficult as it was (to have to accept that she would never be the loving mother I wished for) I cut ties and kept myself and my children safe from any further damage. So I really resonate with your comment. P.S despite my mother and i strained relationship, I allowed her to have a relationship with my eldest. Once my siblings both got married, my mother wasn't bothered about me & my children. But when they had their children, they distanced themselves from her and she doesn't even know them! I say that to say that Karma is real, it's simply the science of life!

@t.r8918 I'm so sorry you and your kids went through that. You have to do what is best for you and your kids. I constantly have this conversation with my mom. I was lucky but she always tries to push MY kids to forgive their dad because that's the only father they will have. I told her we don't do that forgiving toxic family members over here and I definitely don't push my kids to do anything they don't feel comfortable doing. Although my kids are adults, it's up to them but the responsibility to heal the relationship falls on their father. Even with her family, her brother and father violated me and she acts like if we don't talk about it, it didn't happen and I can forgive. I refused to go to her father's funeral and could give a sh*t about her brother who is incapacitated. She said the way she grew up, people just never talked about issues like that and said that's the problem. Now there's generational trauma and it stops with me and my kids. It's not ok.

How many singers do you see in the charts that age? Yes he came back with a big hit Sexual healing in 82 but several songs before & after that didnt even chart. The tragedy of extreme dysfunction in the household. I will always remember the flurry of sirens on that day. My friend, V, phoned me to tell me they were for Marvin Gaye. I couldn't believe it. I didn't go to the scene. I just prayed and cried. Marvin's light had gone out long before his death. His father was a brutal, godless man who preached about God. His mother used her son to protect her spirit from her husband. So much perversion. And, yet, Marvin Gay(e)'s genius came from that. It reminds me of a forest fire, painfully destructive, yet it contributes to gorgeous sunsets. RIP Marvin. You're out of pain!💜 Thank you for your music!

I was a little girl when Marvin Gaye was killed. Marvin called my grandmother, who was his aunt and wanted to come to our family reunion in Louisiana and meet all of his L.A family, who were all going to be there. My granmother felt that the family reunion was the perfect time for him to meet everyone on his dad's side of the family. I was told, grandmother had not spoken to her brother, Marvin's dad in many years. We never got a chance to meet him, because he was killed two weeks before our family reunion.

@briankelly11232 жыл бұрын
@Ms Coletha Albert He got love at home but it only came from his Mother. Marvin began using that and the fact that he had become a huge star who purchased the home his Parents lived in to torment his Dad the same way his Father did throughout his Childhood. Ultimately you are a 100% right. He should have never moved in with his Parents. In my opinion Marvin should have stayed his ass in Belgium where he had gotten back in good shape and was drug free. I also think that Marvin's drug use would have gotten even worse had he never gotten shot that day because crack was replacing free basing and snorting.

I was thirteen when I heard Marvins "What's going on" , I listen to his song over and over until I learned the words. When I finally realized what he was singing about I cried cried. It was the era my upbringing the sixties I experienced, I FELT HIS WORDS. Of course my parents were worried being half Irish/ Mexican the race thing. My love for singing artists of color was strong. However they got over it fast, I would sing around the house, all of Motown I could and other artist I mean I was a kid of the fifty/sixties, right? I cried when I heard Marvin had been killed, and for some reason I knew it was his father. I can't remember just that I knew it was his father. BUT, I did not know his daddy was a Cross dresser,, been there done that and it is not good for the children, Mama should have kicked out Papa a long time ago, maybe it would have saved Marvin. But it appears Marvin was on a road of destruction already. GOD Bless Marvin, I still love his music. Thank you for the video very good.
