Noooooo, you must be delusional to say that. Well shot, exciting, enjoyable.. yes. But cinematography is very much hiding that there is not a lot of depth in the story. The characterization of Picard, while I admit not completely out of the question, does deviate a lot from the Picard we know from TNG. The only real hint of it is when he touches the skin of the Phoenix. If he wasn't played by Patrick Steward, you would never guessed it was Picard. There is no real redemption, Picard goes off character for a good hour, and the final arc he finally does what Picard would normally do, sacrifice himself as a captain (may I remind you, extremely close to the plot of last TNG movie). Again, an enjoyable movie, definitely the best of the TNG movies, but climax is very much a popcorn movie and not Star Trek experience. Top is reserved for STII, STVI and maybe STIV and STI that had genuine thematic character development as the core of its movie. This movie doesn't even try to do that.

When good people give Star Trek a change they very often fall in love with it. They think it's about space and aliens and all that but it's really about what it means to be human and about building a better future for humanity. Gene Roddenberry was wise enough to realize that because of censors he couldn't tell the kind of stories he needed to so he put it in space and filled it with aliens so they wouldn't notice. That's why I find it so funny when people accuse ST of being woke NOW 😂

That was really the worst imo. Picard would have NEVER behaved like that to Worf. EVER. Watch the "Drumhead' and see Picard being the sage against hot headedness to Worf. And also that time when Worf was accessing Starfleet records with Data to further his Father's redemption in name but Picard kindly scolded him and Worf was all pissed about it. Picard would NEVER call Worf a coward, it was was just horrible, extremely out of character. But I can see in this film it was just forced drama, they need to deliver a big movie and I guess they didn't think they had enough and so put that in there. I've never once seen Picard yell at or insult another soldier. EVER. The only thing that came close was when he gave a dressing down to Wesley in his ready room when he realized Wes was covering a death for his cadet team. That's the closest thing (not counting when Riker + Picard yelled at each other but under the influence of Saviks mental sickness projecting).
@HyraxusPrimusКүн бұрын
@@paulpolpiboon9535That was the whole point, I thought. Picard's not his usual self because of his PTSD from the Borg last time, and to him at that moment surrendering anything, even in order to gain victory, is out of the question ("too many retreats, too many compromises"). Even beyond Worf being Worf, Worf had even saved his life just a little while ago on the deflector dish. That's how blinded Picard is by the need for revenge, he wouldn't listen to the strongest warrior on his ship when it comes to what they should do. (Not to mention the ship itself being heated temperature wise) Plus, he came back and apologized after he got a hold of himself, and he stayed that way for the rest of the movie. I think it's also to show off Worf's growth. Lt. Worf would've been ecstatic to stay and fight to the last man, but Lt. Cmdr. Worf had to weigh the lives of the crew and make the hard choice to cut their losses while they still could. He spent a lot of time getting denied in TNG, that's what happens when he refuses to be denied. Sometimes, after gaining experience on your own you do butt heads with your old trusted mentor.

To only echo what others might be saying, 1996 was another big year for Trek. - It was the 30th Anniversary of the Star Trek franchise. - Both of Star Trek’s other series: Deep Space Nine and Voyager were each riding strong on television. And both did episodes that honored the anniversary by having each crew interact with members of the crew from The Original Series. Also, the reason why you saw Worf in command of the ship that was fighting The Borg was because Worf was a cast member on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine a year before First Contact was released. And, the “holographic doctor” you saw at 11:58 is played by Robert Picardo; who is a cast member on Star Trek: Voyager. Lastly, the character of Zefram Cochrane was seen in an episode of The Original Series called “Metamorphosis”.

To explain the "EMH" that appeared in sickbay. EMH stands for "Emergency Medical Hologram". It's a simulated, interactive person like those on the holodeck, but he can only appear in the sickbay where there are holo-emitters specifically for that purpose, and he is meant to only be a temporary doctor should all the medical personnel be incapacitated. The EMH is played by Robert Picardo, who plays another version of the same character as part of the cast on Star Trek: Voyager, which had already begun airing when this film came out. It was a way to connect this film to that show, just as showing Worf as the Captain of the Defiant was a connection to Deep Space Nine, which his character had joined after TNG was over (plus it was a clever way to get him into the film without having to make up a convoluted reason). The actor playing the Maître d' at the club in Picard's holo-program, Ethan Phillips, is also on the cast of Voyager, but as a different character.

After Star Trek: Generations, Michael Dorn joined the cast of Deep Space Nine as Worf, likely as a move to boost the show's ratings. When it came time to film First Contact, the writers needed a way to include Worf in the story, as he was no longer serving aboard the Enterprise. The solution was to bring in the U.S.S. Defiant, the warship Worf commanded on DS9. This allowed him to rejoin the Next Generation crew naturally, bridging his role between the two series.

And the great thing about DS9, they didn't touch upon the existence of the Borg. They didn't feel the need to 'fish-in-that-pond' anymore. Although DS9 did elevate characters from TOS and TNG to higher and much more interesting levels.

@@EvilTheOne Given that the series started in the middle of "Best of Both Worlds", I'd say they TOUCHED on the Borg :P But it was cool of them to take Sisko's journey in a different direction despite having a terribly good reason to have a lifelong vendetta against them.

After the premiere, Avery Brooks said to Michael Dorn, "Did I give you permission to take the Defiant?! Last I knew, it was parked!"

1st Contact, besides being one of the best Sci-fi let alone Star Trek movies , will always hold a special place in my heart. It was the very 1st DVD I bought back in 1997 to test my brand new DVD players that had just come out. I will ALWAYS own a copy of this movie.

I hope you will eventually watch “Picard” season 3 (seasons 1&2 can be skipped). Season 3 is essentially a 10-episode final TNG “movie” & wraps up the storylines of this awesome cast of characters - it is so good. You will absolutely melt with emotion, I promise. ❤😊

She would need to at least read a summary of the events up then. The next two movies reference a large event Picard season 3 is about.
