I got this DVD for Christmas one year and it was one of the best Christmas presents I ever got. The DVD has an audience reaction track recorded live in a movie theater, and I can't watch the film without it. Every DVD should have an audience reaction track. This movie really makes me nostalgic for the times I sat in my hometown theater watching battered, scratchy, spliced-together old movie prints. The ones on the late show on TV often looked like that, too. I love the way that look is simulated here. The little boy who shot himself early on was Robert Rodriguez's son, and Rodriguez shot and edited a special version of the film just for him in which his character survives till the end.

The funny thing about the Machete trailer is that it was literally just meant to be a fake trailer created for the double feature theatre experience. People loved the trailer and wanted it to be a real movie. There was a collection of fake trailers, majority of them played during the intermission between movies. You should checked those out and react to them in you Death Proof reaction right before you watch it to complete the full Grindhouse experience lol. I'm surprised the Thanksgiving trailer wasn't turned into a real movie like Machete. Fun Trivia: Machete is the same character Danny Trejo plays in Spy Kids (which was also done by Robert Rodriguez)... I remember 16 year old me with my sister and friends going to see Grindhouse in theaters and walked out of it completely happy (and ready to marry Tracie Thoms in Death Proof lol), even got the movies on dvd for my birthday that year. I mean, for one, I got two movies for the price of one, and I love a good deal lol. It's considered a cult classic now, but I remember people not liking it (Death Proof was declared Taratino's worst movie) when honestly, people just didn't understand the concept, not knowing what the hell a grindhouse movie was. They were expecting classic RodriguezI Almost 15 years later, I think people are having more of an appreciation and understanding what they were doing with these films... ETA: Yes, Quentin Tarantino does have a foot fetish, so heads up for when you get to Death Proof lmfao...

I think the reason we didn't see much more of these is because this and Death Proof failed at the box office. The "previews" that appear were just meant for the double feature. There came a demand for Machete to be made into an actual movie years later.

Saw the Grindhouse double feature twice in theaters. Amazing experience. I do prefer Death Proof, but Planet Terror is a lot of fun for how crazy it is. I especially love the editing gags. Such a great cast in Planet Terror and it immediately goes off the rails in the best ways. Definitely watch Machete (the only one of the great fake trailers to be made into a movie). Danny Trejo is delightful. It even has a sequel - Machete Kills.

Yes this was part of a double feature with Death Proof in the theater. It was a lot of fun! I liked Planet Terror better of the two. One of my favorite parts of the whole experience was the fake trailers between the two movies. Fake trailers for fake movies. LOL! Thanksgiving was a hilarious fake trailer! I don't know if your copy of the Grind house movies has them but you might be able to look them up on KZbin. Machete was originally a fake trailer, but then they decided to actually make it a few years later. Another great reaction from the man called Showdown!!!!

I love this movie. Saw it in theatre and that missing movie clip was so long and went from everyone ok to building on fire. I laughed for a solid minute. The ad for Machete was fake but looked so awesome the fans made him make the Machete movies which also have a grindhouse feel. Glad u liked it.

@@PopcornReactions It's also known as Dead Alive which might help you find it. Make sure you get the uncut version, definitely recommend watching it whenever you can. Even during its weakest moments it's an experience that isn't quite like any other. Knowing that it's by the man who eventually went on to direct the lord of the rings films makes it especially wild to watch.

Machete was extremely entertaining and very nearly as good as this film. The sequel Machete II had some great moments but I thought that the balance tipped over too much into the downright silly side and I didn't enjoy it quite so much. Deathproof had some great stuntwork but was a bit of a let down and is probably the lowest point of Tarantino's filmography. For something by Rodriguez you are less likely to have heard of I would recommend his early low budget b movie "Roadracers" which was made just after "El Mariachi". It ticks every 50s rebel rock'n'roll cliche there is but does it with such style that you can't help but enjoy it. It features many faces you'll be familiar with from his other films including a very young Salma Hayek in her first leading role in an English language film.
