The more you listen to this band you realize VERY quickly that they are a force to be reckoned with. They have what’s considered the best metal show on the planet. And the musicians of this band are top tier! They ain’t no joke! The early stuff was more their “k-pop/metal” stuff. Today they are just a badass band with 3 amazing singers!

Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Galaxy.🦊'Gimme Chocolate' was the video that went viral early in 2014 and got them noticed internationally - not long before they started touring the world. It is mainly the WTF reactions it got (and still gets) when Yui and Moa start with their "atatatatatatata dukyun" "atatatatatatata zukyun" before Su starts to sing that gets people - sadly some people never get past that, which is a real shame as every song is different and those people are missing out on the best entertainment they could hope to see and hear. 'Gimme Chocolate' has most views and it is great fun live (you wouldn't believe the mosh pits it starts), but it is nowhere near being their best or most popular song. They have over 50 songs now, each one different to the last. They invented their own genre which they call Kawaii Metal (a fusion of Metal with JPop aesthetics, but they mix or blend so many other musical styles and genres in with the Metal, not just pop). Despite appearances and the perceptions of some people there was always a lot more about them than being young girls, the focus was always on their talents as singers, dancers and performers, not what they looked like. Obviously there was some novelty in having young girls fronting a metal band, but they have always been serious about making the best music they could make and putting on the best live shows. Yes some of their songs are good fun, many other songs are deep and meaningful, but most are positive and uplifting - Kawaii metal could almost be called Happy Metal and it could be a more accurate description. They first started in 2010 when the three girls were aged 12 and 11, but they had to work hard to prove themselves, playing in tiny venues with 150 capacity, on a stage by the food hall at a festival, even in a shopping mall for free, before their agency Amuse would even begin to invest in them by, for example, paying for a live band to support them. This video was filmed before the live band (the Kami Band) became their full time support - the guys in skeleton suits in this one were called Babybones and they were not playing the instruments - they were miming those to pre-recorded instrumentals played on backing track (but this video had the studio audio dubbed over the live performance anyway). The Kami Band were being phased in over a year and a bit, they played the 5 encore songs at this show and became the full time support for all live shows at the Budokan concerts in March 2014. They released their first album in 2014 and took a step into the unknown by touring in Europe and the US - very few Japanese bands had done that before them (X Japan, Loudness, Bow Wow Wow are the only Japanese bands I had heard of and they never really became very successful outside of Japan). Since then they have won about 30 international awards for things like Best Live Band, their third album released in 2019 became the first ever by a Japanese (or Asian) band to reach number 1 in the US Billboard Hard Rock charts - which is even more remarkable because they continue to sing in Japanese and we all know that bands who do not sing in English don't do very well in the US. Su-metal, the lead vocalist, is 25 now, Moametal is 23. Sadly Yuimetal left the band in 2018 after a 12 month absence for poor health. Su and Moa have continued as a duo since then with 3 dancers taking turns to dance in the third spot ... but it seems that may change in April with something about a new member being teased at the end of the concert last Sunday. You hvae a couple of good suggestions for more songs to react to already - I would add 'Headbalnger' live at Legend 1997 (the same concert as this in December 2013 - Su-metal was born in 1997, this was her 16th birthday party). You can find a good quality video on abr metal channel.

Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal Galaxy 🦊🤘🔥 Now they got a metalverse but that's a more recent era so highly recommend to just wait to get there but in case you wanna know, they already released 3 singles from upcoming 4th album "The Other One", another one is coming this month. They also held two live concerts past weekend returning to the this same stage at Makuhari Messe after three years, almost two years since last live performance, they came back with big news and more announcements, new live shows in April and later they will join Sabaton's Europe Tour as a special guests. Dance choreography and metal had never been seen before and they somehow managed to make it works creating their unique own genre called "kawaii-metal" (that's the name you're looking for), mixing Jpop and heavy metal along with many more sub genres and rhythms, you'll have so much fun going through this journey. BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (kawaii means cute), mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms, They are: *SuMetal* (lead vocals). *MoaMetal* (scream and dance) *YuiMetal* (scream and dance, former member since 2018) None of them are related. This was in December 2013 at SuMetal 16th Birthday, the other girls had 14 yo and there was a big party, you have seen nothing yet, wait for _"Babymetal Death"_ However this isn't actually live version, is studio album version over a live performance which was partially live only on the vocals and choreography with backing track sound. They have their own band called Kami Band introduced later on that same show and after that Kami Band become regular at live performance. They're singing about wanting to eat some chocolate but they're just worried about the weight just like any other normal girl, no hidden meaning in this. You'll find some songs in this early era without meaningful lyrics just to have fun and party but they also have another set of songs full of meaning so we'll be glad to help you out with those throughout your journey. _"See you in the mosh'sh pit"_ means go watch "Road Of Resistance" live in Japan official MV, but be careful because is sometimes heavily blocked if you don't take precautions by putting some filters or watermarked logo. I'm gonna leave a suggestion on my next comment where to get more original clips safe to react. See you next time! 🦊🤘🍫
@jakemuller8626
@jakemuller8626 Жыл бұрын
We know Amuse is very hard to deal with copyright blocked issues, fortunately we got a way to go around with "Babymetal Reactor Resource" YT place, you'll get full original clips of their best live performance with watermarked logo safe to react, look for "Future Plans" vid, follow instructions and you'll get all of them, upload the one with the logo for us and you can watch without it, don't worry for us we already saw all of them. You'll find some watermarked clips in the channel also with the description and where to get the non-logo version. If you want you can watch the original clean version and pause whenever you like to say your comment and after that you can put a logo provided in the same place so you can enjoy a clean version from the beginning. You can also put some heavy opacity and translucent effect to avoid those issues if necessary. However there are some safe clips to react like those from Legend 1997 or some of Budokan 2014 or previous to this year and Festivals that is out of reach from Amuse hands. By all means AVOID live compilations at least for first time watching, not saying all of them are bad but chances are you'll end up facing the bad ones bad edited, very confusing, switching costumes and distracting you from the performance and meaning of the song. Also avoid Glastonbury Festival performance, the sound is bad and the crowd isn't the usual fans. Here's some examples of safe to react live performances: - "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" live at Legend 1997 (2013, you can find this a "Gans Tomas" channel or "abr metal") or Legend I (2012). - "Rondo Of Nightmare" with Mischiefs Of Gods Intro live at Budokan 2014, this one normally is safe to react without any filters. ("Kawaii Metal" channel got this) - "Catch Me If You Can", you got live at Budokan 2014 with subtitles version at GuilhermeCait channel or live at MetroRock 2015 in Babymetal Reactor Resource channel under the title "CMIYC". - "Ijime Dame Zettai" live at Sonisphere Festival 2014 (lately hasn't been so safe, so careful) - "Karate" live at Download Festival 2016 ("kitsune6001" channel got this one) - Distortion, live at Download Festival 2018 or Rock Am Ring 2018, official channel got the Download version and is safe to react. If you follow this step by step you won't have blocked issues the majority of times, but sometimes there has been issues with certain songs so if you got those try to put opacity, blur or translucent effect, that might help a little bit. Thanks for sharing your BabyMetal reactions and reading this humble recommendation. 🦊🤘

The reality is that the musicianship, composition, vocals, choreography, show production are absolutely top shelf professionally and creatively. Awesome and unique band. Go ahead. They are shooting chocolate at her because she is worried about her weight, and they are teasing her, this is a song about how society expects girls to conform to a standard of beauty, and the girl eventually just says basically “ f your standards, GIVE ME CHOCOLATE!”

The thing that I love most about Babymetal is that they do songs that treat girls' and women's issues seriously, while staying lighthearted and having fun with it at the same time. This song is about young women demanding chocolate at gunpoint (you were correct about the "bang bang pew" sounds!), despite society telling them they should watch their weight and to act more ladylike (notice how they mime smearing the chocolate down their faces in defiance). And yes, the cute horn sounds and miming is absolutely them celebrating getting their chocolate in the end! My next rec would be Megitsune, meaning "Vixen." It's a song about why women get dolled up and act charming- not because they're trying to deceive or ensnare, but because they are expected to always be pleasing or risk being tossed aside by society. But they are strong and do it all with a smile to hide the tears.
@praapje
@praapje Жыл бұрын
Women aren´t expected to by ´society´ (that would be the other half of the population - men), but through evolution. And they really don´t have to doll themselves up and act charming, it depends on what they look for in a man. As for society telling women to watch their weight...well it´s not society telling them, it´s reality. Obesity is the nr. 1 killer in the western world due to too high levels of comfortness and laziness and yes, sometimes it´s genetic but very rarely. Women (and men) should be grateful that our society values health and well being.

In a very old interview, Su-metal the lead singer, mentions that the group wanted to make metal songs that young girls could relate to. So basically heavy music and cute (kawaii) vocals about songs that girls understood like wanting to eat chocolate but worried about gaining weight (Gimme Chocolate), waking up and getting ready for school (Doki Doki Morning), girl sleep overs (Uki Uki Midnight), 15 year old girl going to her first metal concert (Headbanger). Of course, as the girls got older their songs have matured too. Because of BABYMETAL many many young girls and boys became introduced to the heavy metal music genre. Also what is really cool is that many metal loving parents over the years have said that they have bonded with their kids over BABYMETAL songs and going to BABYMETAL concerts together. 🤘🦊🤘

Great reaction and welcome to BABYMETAL! You are right, it's metal and it's J-pop. The proper terminology is "kawaii metal" (cute metal) a subgenre they invented as a fusion of both genres. "Gimme Chocolate" is tailored a a WTF maker and that's why it went viral in 2014 and why this music video has so many million views. It's also a very polarizing song. This is definitely a fun song but they can me much more serious. Not to mention that they are all gown up now and sound... epic! The term 'J-pop' was probably coined around the 2000s, when Japanese pop-rock music was exported to other countries, especially in Asia. It is assumed that the term 'J-Rock' or 'J-Metal' were derived from the term 'J-Pop'. Yihi, yeah, yeah, with all due respect to you, but BM might be for advanced students. It's a kind of Buddhist paradise, or Christ's Kingdom of Heaven after listening to all kinds of heavy metal. Only the enlightened can enjoy it... so hang in there! I'm a snobby, infantile, and perverted-like bastard (don't take me seriously, ok? ha), but I'm totally hooked. Next I request 'Headbangeeeeerrrr!' live video. Thank you from Japan!

"Gimme Chocolate" is arguably the video that put them on the radar. Now you could do one of two things: you can jump around like a flea on a hot brick and wander the BABYMETAL foxhole reacting to this and that - which isn't a bad way of experiencing BABYMETAL - or you could go back to the egg: check out their very first MV (released in 2012!) "Doki Doki Morning" ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZrVmYRunrGXmNk ) then match it with the live version ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6ibioFudtJ7qMk ) and do that with each of their songs (many do not have MV's but there's a live version for virtually all of their songs). In short, travel the path that they and many of their fans took to get to where we are today. You'll find good songs and ones that aren't so good, you'll find triumph (Sonisphere 2014) and tragedy (the departure of Yuimetal in 2018 and the unfortunate death of Mikio Fujioka, guitarist of the BABYMETAL backing "Kami Band"), you'll find Black BABYMETAL (BBM), and you'll find that although BABYMETAL started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal"), they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box. They have only a bit over fifty songs and you're sure to find them all most entertaining. Another thought - take in all of BABYMETAL's music videos first, then move on to live performances. I will be the first to agree with the One that Babymetal is best served live but they have several music videos that are real works of art and definitely worth looking into (“Doki Doki Morning”, “Iine!”, “Megitsune”, “Karate”, and “BxMxC”. In my opinion, those are Babymetal’s best MV’s - so far!). Nevertheless, if I were tasked to make a BABYMETAL top twenty album, this is the songs I would include: By album: 1. BABYMETAL Death (the Legend 1997 version is a MUST!) 2. Megitsune (the MV is phenomenal!) 3. Gimme Chocolate!! 4. Iine! (pronounced "E-nay; the MV is a MUST!) 5. Doki Doki Morning (their very first MV) 6. Onedari Daisakusen (a Black BABYMETAL song; the Legend 1997 is, IMO the best version) 7. Song 4 No Uta (another BBM song) 8. Uki Uki * Midnight 9. Catch Me If You Can 10. Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! 11. Ijime, Dame, Zettai ----- 12. Road of Resistance 13. Karate (the MV is a MUST!) 14. Meta Taro 15. GJ! (BBM) 16. Sis Anger (BBM) 17. From Dusk Till Dawn ----- 18. Shanti Shanti Shanti 19. Pa Pa Ya!! 20. BxMxC (the MV is a must) Be advised that this list is NOT from best to worst (as if BABYMETAL has any "worst" songs); they are listed in order of appearance on each of their three albums ("BABYMETAL", "Metal Resistance", and "Metal Galaxy"). I would further recommend that for the live versions of the first album, you'll want to watch "LIve Legend 1997 Apocolypse" concert ( kzbin.info/aero/PLdBAj9hZ91wCao72oSqTMLrGpIDOqzR2Q ). In fact, it is that concert from which this MV "Gimme Chocolate!!" was taken. I also think it would be interesting if you reacted to the entire Legend concert! Finally, I suggest that you avoid compilation and fancam videos like the plague: compilation videos are, in my opinion, an insult to both the viewer and the band; the music is certainly overdubbed, and the changes in venue and costumes (sometimes even personnel) can be confusing if not completely annoying. Watching a BABYMETAL compilation video is like eating prime rib after somebody else chewed it. You won't be reacting to BABYMETAL, you'll be reacting to a highlight reel of BABYMETAL. And fancams generally have terrible quality and sound thus being basically a waste of time. Sorry about the wall! Enjoy your trip down the foxhole! (You're in for a wild ride!!!) KITSUNE UP!!! 🤘🦊🤘

Welcome to Babymetal's "Foxhole"...turn back now or you will never be the same, for good or bad. Seriously BM is lots of fun with some amazing live performances and musicianship. The fanbase is highly committed (maybe they should be) and is called "The One" or individually "Kitsunes" of "Megitsunes" as BM's patron deity is the Fox God...#notacult ;-) Babymetal started in 2010 as a sub-group of the school themed J-pop idol group Sakura Gakuin when their producer, Key Kobayashi, formed them around the lead vocals of Suzuka Nakamoto with Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno to combine metal with J-pop. They quickly gained in popularity to such an extent that in 2013 their agency, Amuse, spun them off as an independent act and they began touring worldwide with a backing band made up of some of Japan's best musicians which was call "The Kami Band"...which sort of translates as "The God/Spirit Band". This 2013 concert was in preparation for their first world tour and trances their development from a J-pop idol band into a headlining metal band. The song itself is an early one and is about liking chocolate, but being a bit worried about putting on weight. It's often the gateway to BM as it comes up first on searches and was the first of their songs to go viral, but it's not really a good guide to most of BM's songs as it's a bit gimmicky. You'll find a lot of variation as Kobayashi follows some eclectic paths. Next maybe check out the 2 versions of Headbanger from the same concert. Just look for "Headbanger - Legend 1997" and "Headbanger Night of 15 Mix" which is a dub-step mix and entirely mimed to ironically emphasize BM's idol origins, then look at "Road of Resistance -Live in Japan". If you want some musical whiplash check out their ultimate achievement "Tales of the Destinies".

The song is basically a craving for chocolate but worry about gaining weight. The support dancers aren’t wielding guns but are poking/teasing at body fat. You’ve just fallen into the Foxhole. Welcome aboard!

This is a very early song and video. Since this they have covered a whole spectrum of different metal styles - some fairly straight and some with strong pop elements. Their stage shows are immense and legendary and their backing band is made up of some of Japan's greatest musicians. When they tour outside Japan they use a kickass group of American musicians to back them. They're like really confusing at first but once you get it, especially the later stuff, you can't help but be impressed. Trust me - I tried hard not to be impressed and I failed.

Great reaction, you figured out a lot of things, many others don't. Yes, Babymetal do the unholy thing of combining J-pop with metal, they made their own genre called: kawaii-metal aka adorable/cute-metal. But if it's metal to go against the grain/counter culture, then what is more metal than being counter culture inside the metal genre ? 🙂 And they are doing it while still being kids. And they kind of exists to be a gateway band into metal. They end up being a gateway band into Japanese music for a lot of people too, including J-Pop. A guy who works at a talent agency who used to work with bands as the jack of all trades to handle everything the band itself can't/won't handle. From finding the right label to work with, to the right studio, to the stage design people, to organizing the tour, etc. But they told him: the demand for bands is gone, we need you to work at the kids department. And now we have Babymetal,... from little J-Pop idol kids to slowly becoming more and more artists of their own.

Has he only reacted to one BabyMetal song? I'd recommend reacting to...Rondo of Nightmare with Mischiefs of God intro Budokan live (more of a serious song, heavy ballad type no cheerleading, but the kami band is intro is 🔥🔥🔥). But if you do something of their new album go for. Maya or mirror mirror

I have listened to metal since 1990. But speaking of Jpop there isn't much Jpop I like but Yaosobi/Ayase is really good. This is 'Monster' kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqqcYad3aLmHZ8U it has 259 million views. I don't recommend reacting to it. I don't think it'll get views. But it's a great song. They have other great songs like 'Racing into the Night (Yoru Ni Kakeru). But Yoru Ni Kakeru might be too dark. It's a song about a story. The story is that a man is tricked into taking his own life by an imaginary woman created by an evil spirit.

This is not really representative of them but often seen first due to the high view count for it or someone trying to possibly troll a reactor 🙂. They have a HUGE variety of metal music (almost always best live) and have been aorund for over 12 years now. Do give them another look - I'd suggest maybe BMC (live of course - preferably Japan) ,Kagerou , Monochrome or maybe Mirror Mirror. Good reaction

Great reaction to the most interesting, and unexpected band you are likely to see and hear! I do look forward to your next look at them. I might suggest "Megitsune" kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXyWf4CQdrp-fdk. It is the official music video (Babymetal is almost ALWAYS better live....but this MV is not to be missed.

Their "production" is cool and highly entertaining. But they are a metal dance troop Vegas style act. Not an actual band. You could replace any member and the show would still go on. But people will still get so triggered cause someone has a different opinion from theirs. I'm sure I like bands you have a different opinion about. Do I care? No... So calm down.

👍 👍 BabyMetal is respected by and have either performed or collaborated with the likes of Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, Guns and Roses, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bring Me The Horizon, Judas Priest and more. If you choose to continue LIVE is where it’s at with BabyMetal, it is where they shine. They have over 50 LIVE song/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres. They just started their new World tour last weekend in Japan. Their concert opened both nights with Metal Kingdom and that LIVE MV is available to react to. An early great performance is Karate LIVE at 2016 Download Festival in the United Kingdom where 60,000+ British metal heads sing along with the girls. Also Road of Resistance Live in Japan is a great one. Hope to see you again.

i have to give it up for babymetal, after hearing one of the girls had to give it up 'cuz she was about to break her ankles doing the shows - and i'lll also give them the 'rob zombie' ref - but, the true j-ROCK award has to go to BAND-MAID! and, if we're just going back over the pacific, then CRASH - south-korean metal!! kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKbGdqpqq7CBfMU
